Dom, Sub and Boy: Beginning

Rate this book
Grant and Mark have a great relationship. They’ve been in a Dom/sub relationship for a number of years, they’re in love, and they each need what the other has to give. Mark is an ER surgeon, brilliant and driven, while Grant is a successful businessman in his own right.

When Grant sells off his company and retires in his mid-thirties, things change. He and Mark are as committed as ever, but Grant now has so much more time on his hands while Mark is busier than ever at the hospital. With nothing else to occupy him, Grant yearns for a twenty-four-seven boy, while Mark worries he’s not enough for his passionate Dom. Could bringing in a third be what they both need to round out their lives?

Mark’s best friend Ting just might fit the bill, but how do Grant and Mark bring the topic up with each other, let alone Ting himself?

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

I love stories about triads—especially the ones where the men involved have a real three-way relationship, not just some hot three-way action. Don’t get me wrong that can be very entertaining, but the psychology behind a triad is something far more complicated and intriguing to me than the physical side. Figuring out that a third partner may be needed and why is always fascinating. In this first book of a new series by Sean Michael, established couple Mark, who needs to submit so he can relax, and Grant, who is a natural Dom, face the fact that they may need/want a third man to join them. But from the moment Grant brings it up, there is a new kind of tension between them and this first book tells the story of how they deal with it and how they go about finding a solution that makes both of them happy.

Mark is a dedicated ER doctor and has very little free time. On top of that he is the type to stress over ever little detail, and one of the only ways he can relax is when Grant takes over and makes him submit. Theirs is an otherwise equal relationship, and Mark loves to “push back”, in fact, they both like that. He is not a 24/7 sub, nor would he ever want to be.

Grant is a retired businessman who sold his company and is now very wealthy. This is nice since he is only in his midthirties and has escaped the rat race that might have given him a heart attack. Now he is looking for ways to fill his day. He thinks he can either get a hobby or explore being a Dom. Mark isn’t the right partner for that, so Grant begins to think about adding a third man, someone who is the nurturer neither Grant nor Mark can be, someone who likes to serve and take care of others.

I liked how Grant and Mark discussed the situation. Mark was able to see why Grant would want a 24/7 boy but felt inadequate because he couldn’t be that for his Dom. Grant didn’t push him at all, but patiently explained why it would work for both of them. Luckily their best friend (and Mark’s former roommate) Ting might fit the bill, but having the idea and executing it are two entirely different things.

If you like triads and want to see how one of them comes about, if you want to know how two men in a committed relationship might figure out they need a third, then make it happen, and if you’re looking for a read that is as psychologically and emotionally fascinating as it is hot, then you will probably like this novel as much as I did. I look forward to the next installment!

I love Sean Michael stories, but this one is going back to what was written ages ago: I love you lets have sex; oh love, let sex it up; I love you too, f**k me please; love; sex;....OK where's the plot??

Grant has retired, from what we don't know; Mark still works hard shifts as an A&E doctor; and Ting (stupid name) just loves them both.
Grant wants a full-time sub, but Mark works, so it can't be him. Obviously, Ting has nothing else to do (no job??) so Grant assumes he'll just fall into place - and be their sub - which leads to the question of whether or not Mark is a real sub.

And Ting (stupid name) is just falling over himself to do everything they both want.

This appears to be the Beginning of a series, but in all honesty, they've set themselves up already in this first book, what the f**k will happen next? Or do I want to know? Or not?

Very interesting premise, but the outcome was surprisingly... boring.

I kept waiting for some semblance of a plot to appear, but no such luck.

They fuck, eat, fuck, sleep, Dom pushes for them to acquire a Slave, Sub hesitates; they talk a little, they fuck, Dom pushes some more, guilts Sub into agreeing, they acquire a Slave, they get blowjobs, they cook, eat, fuck, sleep - that's it.

4.5 *****

Great start to what I hope is a new series. I'm a huge fan of Sean's Jarhead series...and I think this one has the possibilities of being just as entertaining.

Boring >.<

This book takes place over a time span of just over a week or so, it's pretty much just one giant sex scene. With the title it makes you think 'kinky!' but really it's pretty tame and painfully repetitive, especially considering 85% of the book is dedicated strictly to sex.

The Dom in the book mentions lots of kinky things he wants to do with Ting, the new sub, including fisting, piercing, tattooing, hot wax, and quite a few other things, however, all they really do is a light butt smacking (BDSM wise) and Ting starts calling Grant 'Master'. They mention setting rules and such but never discuss anything past Ting having to stay naked.

All in all I was quite disappointed in pretty much every aspect, barely any plot, barely any kink, barely any real relationship building outside of sex. I also wasn't quite sold on the relationship dynamic, Grant just seemed needy and pushy and was always the one reinforcing why Ting was a great idea, Mark just seemed to go along with it to make Grant and Ting happy which didn't sit well with me. Sure at the end the author tries to sell it as 'look at how happy Mark is' but it just wasn't a believable development for me.

If they ever come out with a sequel to this book I probably won't read it, five hours of barely spiced vanilla sex without any substance to back it up just isn't my thing, it would have been a DNF but I made the mistake of hoping Grant would follow through with at least ONE of his kinky ideas, even the last few pages they could've made it something more but NOPE, just more missionary position sex, literally -_-

I loved this book. I am slowly getting used to the idea of ménages and this one did not disappoint. The story features an established couple, Grant and Mark. Grant has sold his business and is now retired, spending most of his time at home, but Mark is a very dedicated and busy ER surgeon, working 100+ hours a week, leaving little time for them to enjoy each other.
Both are feeling bad about the situation, and when a friend, Ting, comes to dinner, obviously lonely and worried, they consider inviting Ting to join their family and home.
The growing relationship between Grant and Ting, coupled with Mark and Ting's previous history works really well. I would have liked a little more about Ting leaving his old job and apartment, but guess that wouldn't have taken the story forward.
A lovely book, just want to know if there will be a sequel!

Mark and Grant are a great couple but there seems to be a bit missing for Grant. Mark is a strong man and couldn't be a 24 hour sub. Ting has been been Mark's friend and you get the feeling that there is some feelings but they couldn't ever been enough for each other. And with all these loose ends we have the perfect solution for everyone. This is a wonderful story of something new, special, and big building between all three of these men.
