Enchantement

La Pierre de lune

Rate this book

This is an exciting story of secrets, magic, intrigue, betrayal and love. The story takes turns you don’t expect, has characters whose secrets surprise you and it definitely leaves you wanting more. I loved the complex relationships, the revaluations, the drama and the heartache in this story. The narrator did a good job of giving the characters individual voices and bringing the story to life, but I did find the voice she used for Lou a little childish for a 20 year old. Overall, this is an entertaining audiobook that will keep you enthralled from the the first word to the last and leave you impatient for the next book.

Format: E-Book (The Author gave me in exchange of an honest review)

I Hate it! I hate it that I have to wait for the second book. I want to read it ASAP!! Now, that's out of the way, here's my review.

I didn't expect all that happened when I started reading it. It was a nice, intriguing book. I loved Lou. She's so relatable. The book was normal paced up until 25%. The author took time in world building (that was probably why I didn't read it in one sitting). The whole time I found similarities with Harry Potter, Vampire Academy, Hex Hall, even Pride and Prejudice + Beauty and the Beast. BUT, it's entirely unique in its own way.

Talking about characters: I loved Lou. I loved Charles, Gertrude, Flicka. They're awesome. Now the certain someone (the evil one). I hated him from the moment he was introduced. I despised him. And I was so happy I was right. Because, at some point I felt like he was nice after all. And the hero! I AM IN LOVE WITH HIM. I didn't like him at first. But, then... I fell head over heels in love with him. His story!! OMG. That crushed me. I couldn't stop reading the book when he made constant appearance.

I loved the setting. The whole enchanter-human thing. I love elemental magic. I loved how the author showed Lou's development throughout the book- magic wise, and her feeling to fit in. I love the chemistry between the two. The tension!! I also saw what was coming (the big twist) and then I was a goner.

In last pages, I was really scared it was coming to an end. I wanted more and I know I had to wait for that. In short, this book is one of my top favorite books I read this year. I tried to find faults as a reviewer but I couldn't. Sometimes, the world setting took too much of explanation and every mention of more chocolates irked me a little (I'm not a dessert fan. I hate chocolates) but other than that, I don't thing anything was wrong.

In fact, I'm surprised that not many people have read it. THIS BOOK NEEDS MORE READERS! So, if you're a Paranormal Romance (mixed with magic and Greek mythology) fan, GO AND PICK THIS BOOK. And let me know if you liked it. So, go on read it while I'll fangirl over my ship.

(The review I posted is completely honest and has nothing to do with the fact I received the book for free.)

I had been mentioned in a comment on Instagram that an amazing french author was looking for some English reviewers for her newly translated novel and I couldn't resist! Thank you so much Evelyne, and I hope you love my review!

My Summary

The Moonstone, the first instalment of the Enchantment series, follows the life of Lou Mills. She discovers that her life is in fact much more complicated than she initially felt being a teenager. It is revealed to her that she in a witch, an enchanter, a being with immense power. If that weren’t already enough pressure, she discovers she is the key to prevent the waging wars between her people ( The enchanters) and the people who’ve raised her (humans).

The beginning of the book, like most fantasy novels sets up the reader for whats to come. It is a slightly slow start, but I felt this was necessary as it helps the reader absorb all the important information needed in this novel. I also would like to point out a few similarities I picked out from this novel. I was getting some honest Percy Jackson, meets Vampire Academy meets Hunger Game, meets Beauty and the Beast vibes which to me was awesome. It was all reimagined in a new way and I respect how unique this novel was in terms of having a decent amount of similarities with other books.

I will now be going into some detail now of the book so if you guys haven’t read it please be sure to read the book before continuing to scroll down. There will not be huge spoilers, but descriptions of characters and some quotes from the novel!

Other Notes

Overall, I honestly loved this book and I would definatley recommend it to anyone who loves the books i mentioned earlier in the non spoiler section! Thank you Evelyne for allowing me to read this amazing fantastical story!

To start my review I’d just like to say a huge thank you to the amazing author of this novel, Evelyne, for sending me this incredible book to read and review. I absolutely love the world and story you’ve created and cannot wait to read the second book, Atlantis, very soon.

Spoiler-free summary:

The book begins with the protagonist Lou, living a normal life among humans but little does she know the person she really is and the power she truly holds. Lou finds out that she is an enchanter, mythical magic wielders who utilize the four elements as well as Ether and live in the blind eye of the human world. Enchanters are powerful beings and with their power comes prejudice, prejudice against the humans their world is so carefully hidden from. Lou, though she doesn’t not know it yet, holds within herself the power to bring balance or destruction to their world.

I absolutely loved the novel’s use of Greek mythology as well as general folk law and faerie tales. There were parts that were a little slow but were necessary to explaining and describing the world Evelyne created. Though it is translated from its original language of French I found it extremely easy to read and was very captivating especially in the last third of the book.

I would definitely recommend Enchantment: The Moonstone to anyone who loves mythology, magic and mystery within fantasy settings/worlds.

Well, this book was certainly an adventure.

Reasons this book was lovely:
- Something about it was just so entertaining?? I can’t put my finger on what, exactly, kept me coming back to the book, but it had me hooked.
- In general, the word choice and grammar was accurate! The translation never impeded my understanding of what was happening.
- I got really invested in the characters.
- CRAZY PLOT TWISTS.

The not-so-perfect:
- Because it’s a translation from French to English, the writing wasn’t perfect.(COMMA SPLICES were in ABUNDANCE.)
- There were a few awkward exclamation points here and there. (I’m assuming the French use them a lot more often than us?)
- I don’t really think Lou had much character development.
- Not a ton happened.

Despite its imperfections, however, I really found myself enjoying this book. Something about the story – perhaps the magical realm? – had me hooked, despite the daunting size of the book. For anyone looking for a simple and enjoyable romance/fantasy novel who doesn’t mind the thick size, give it a go! I will most likely pick up the second book sometime in the future. 🙂

**Thank you so much to the author, Evelyne Contant, for sending me a copy of her book to review! This in no way affects my opinion.**

Before I start this review, I just want to say a huge thank you to the author for sending me an ebook copy of Moonstone in return for an honest review. It was such an honor to be able to read this book and to be able to review it.

4 Stars

Moonstone is the first installment of the Enchantment series by Evelyne Contant. It follows the life of eighteen-year-old Lou who has lived a normal life amongst the humans until she discovers that she is an enchanter - specifically a Moonchild who can control all four elements and some more (i.e. the power of Ether). From this, she is pulled into another world filled with magic that she never thought was possible. Her life unravels further as she is told that she is the key to stopping the upcoming war waging ahead between the people she once lived with (i.e. Humans) and the people she is a part of now (i.e. Enchanters). Lou goes through conflicts and challenges she never thought she would before filled with adventure, action, romance, and trust.

Let’s break this down like I always do:

Characters:
- Lou. I absolutely loved Lou as a character. I related to her on so many levels that it was hilarious at one point. Her bravery stood out to me and her willingness to do something that she never heard or expected before. Also, I was quite satisfied with her character development and her transition from being shocked to taking things into her own hands. However, I do still get slightly annoyed at her naivety.
- Lord Black. I have to admit, I didn’t like Black as much at first given his domineering personality. But I slowly grew to like him as his story unveiled and many different events came to play. He became one of my favorites.

Plot
To be completely honest, the book started out quite slow for me. Maybe it was because of the extremely long first two chapters or the fact that I love fast paced novels - but it took me awhile to get into it. Although it did create the basis of the world in the Enchantment series and the different things the readers would be encountering. Once I was really into the novel, I couldn’t stop.

The plot had the elements of any fantasy novel of course with new discoveries, the protagonist being thrusted into a new world, and some romance here and there. But the author made the plot much more interesting than the usual fantasy novel. She laced in Greek mythology into the story, making every single thing mean so much more than it is. As a lover of Greek mythology, every explanation she stated in the novel made the entire story more interesting, meaningful, and compelling. Things that seem like minor discoveries to the readers suddenly becomes something vital to the plot as she allows the protagonist - Lou - to explain the meaning behind everything she discovers.

Furthermore, the plot twist. I could not handle it. That part of the novel (in which I’m not going to mention given that I’m trying to write a spoiler-free review) was heartbreaking yet it made the novel into so much more. I was glad it was added into the story and it opened so many new doors to begin the second installment of the series.

Overall, I recommend Moonstone to YA fantasy lovers! The plot and characters are interesting and will keep you going the whole way. Thank you so much to Evelyne for giving me the opportunity to read her wonderful novel.

A huge thank you to the author for giving me the chance to read and review this book, it was a huge honour and opportunity.
This book was filled with adventure, twists and turns, friendship and romance. It had a bit of a slow start but after the action picks up you’re grateful for it because it actually feels like it was preparing you for what it was to come.
Lou Mills, the main character of this story, has always dreamed of adventure, so when her next door neighbour, the witch that has watched over her her whole life, reveals something that will change her life forever she embraces it. Her whole life she has felt out of place and like she didn’t fit in so when the opportunity for an adventure comes, she takes it. After that, her life suddenly feels right, she is an enchanter and she’s a Moonchild but she finally feels likes she belongs, even if being a Moonchild comes with extraordinary powers that people with selfish intentions will want to take advantage of.
I loved Lou’s character most because she felt relatable. She likes books, libraries, solitude and Greek mythology and she’s not perfect. She is strong, smart and she’s not fearful but she has flaws, she’s quick to judge but she’s an optimist and she’s loyal to her friends. A lover of books and a dreamer, she has always wanted an adventure, something that would make her life exciting. And let’s be honest, who hasn’t wanted at least once in their life an adventure like we always read about? She wants to fit in, she wants her life to has some meaning, and that’s something I think everyone can relate to.
Another thing I liked a lot was the complicated relationship between Lord Black and Lou. Honestly from the very beginning I loved the character of Mister Black even if he was a bit on the obsessed and controlling side, you could see there was something more to it than met the eye. I liked that she loved him but hated him at the same time and gradually, as she began to understand him and saw his true self, their relationship evolved as well. And the plot twist at the end was the death of me!! I wanted something like that to happen and when it did I was blown to bits.
I loved that every chapter has a little quote that gives you a hint on what’s to come, but only a hint. I like how graphic all the descriptions are and that they make you imagine and want to be there and see for yourself this new and eccentric world, where everyone embraces glamour in their lives (elaborate balls, eccentric outfits, sweets everywhere!!). If you love Greek mythology, magic and if you have a sweet tooth I highly recommend this book, you’ll definitely love it! (but you gotta have something sweet on you because the abundance of sweets in this world will give you a toothache just reading about it).

I have no idea where to start with this enchanting (haha - see what I did there?), adventurous and beautiful book. It is literally my dream book come to life. I mean, it had libraries, secret rooms with sweets/candy of everything you can imagine, witches, Greek mythology, magic, demi-gods, enchanters and mythical creatures. What more do you need in a book?! IT WAS AMAZING!
So, Lou Mills, the main character, dreams of adventure. You know what they say, "Be careful what you wish for" because all of Lou's dreaming and wanting finally happened. But not in the way she had hoped.
While Lou's parents are away for two weeks, leaving her home alone, she finds herself in a whole new world learning where she belongs, learning she has powers and learning she is a Moonchild with extraordinary powers people with selfish intentions will want to take advantage of.
This book was full of adventure, twists and turns and friendship and a bit of romance.
Lou was an amazing character. She definitely reminds me of myself, and I think a lot of book lovers will agree too, because we all want a bit of adventure in our lives, like we read about in our favourite books and she got to experience what some adventure that she's been wanting for so long.
I really liked that she was so powerful because it shows that no matter your background, male or female, you can be powerful without even knowing it. It just takes a bit of time to realise your potential and figure out who you're supposed to be. That's exactly what happens to Lou - she didn't know how powerful she was or what powers she had until she pushed herself to discover what she was capable of. She also didn't have a great background and was an outcast to the other enchanters because she was brought up by her adoptive human parents who adopted Lou after her mother died at her birth.
Even from a few pages into the book, I already saw a part of myself in Lou since she loves book and reading about non-existent worlds. That's why I read, to escape into non-existent worlds. Loud also related more to fictional characters that real people which is also very similar to me, too and the best part which is exactly me is, Lou would rather spend money on books than new clothes. This is LITERALLY me!! Whenever I get a bit of money, I go straight to the bookshop instead of clothes shopping with my sisters.
As you can see, I really related to Lou's character which made the book even better. I love relating to characters as I read a book.
I have so much to say about this book, but I think I'll have to miss some things out so I don't ruin it for you all!
There was so much adventure in this book that I wanted to jump right in and live it for myself. I absolutely love books about people having powers and have always wanted a power myself so it was amazing to read a book you have always wanted to read. I truly think this book is seriously my dream book come to life and I got the chance to read it! It had EVERYTHING I love in a book.
The amount of twists and turns in the book was AMAZING!! I didn't see any of them coming, although I tried to guess, but it made it so much more shocking and I was sat on the edge of my seat after every chapter just wanting to know more. And when there wad a turn of the plot, I sat with my mouth open reading, not being able to take my eyes from the book.
Enchantment The Moonstone is definitely a book I'd recommend to anyone who asks for a book recommendation.
I just need to talk about Black. His character was so dark and mysterious but I couldn't help but love him. I guess I was really intrigued and wanted to know more about him. When Lou was able to break his walls and see the real him a few times, I loved that side of him and wanted him to stay that way, with her. Unfortunately, his past was a barrier, not allowing them to be together. He was such an intriguing character from the start, though.
Just when you think every thing is going fine in the book BAM something happens catching you off guard and since you're already on the edge of your seat, you have nothing but the floor to fall onto to catch you while being completely thrown off guard at the twists and turns of this book.
I would highly recommend everyone who loves Greek mythology, mythical creatures, witches and magic, to read this book. This is definitely something you'll love.

I got this book from the giveaway that author hosted and this book is really meet my expectations! I love this book!
First things that makes me love this book is I love how the author write the story, it's so flowing, the story has fast pace but it's not rushing and I enjoy every page of this book.
The second one is the main character, Lou Mills. Her character feels so real and she is a lovable character. I love how her character grows, become more stronger but still has her naive and vulnerable side. It's humanly and I think it's perfect.
The third one is Lord Black. Who doesn't love him? His past just makes me loves him more and it's explains what makes him to act that way. Believe me, if you read the story you'll loves him too.
The forth one is the world building, magic, enchanters, demi-god, human and war that will break the world. Just read it and you'll get hook by the story.

I received this book from the author for an honest review, so happy I had this opportunity.

The book tells the story of Lou, a 20 years old girl, who thinks she is completely ordinary until one day she discovers she is a witch, an enchanter, and she must train at the Academy to become a warrior if ever a war occurs between enchanters and humans. She slowly sets foot in a world touched by magic, the house of mythological creatures and elegant balls that seem to rule the night, in a world of luxury and illusion that will take your breath away. And there is also this dark, strange man that has all the potential of being an enemy, but is he really? Lou is drawn by this Mr Black, getting tangled in a relationship that cannot happen, a desire that consumes her.

“Enchantment The Moonstone” has all the elements to make an amazing read and I really don’t know why it’s not more popular. Drama, magic, mythology, forbidden love, betrayal, all tangled up in a story that will keep you focused until the very last page. The ending blew my mind and the characters put a hold on my heart, especially this dark man I couldn’t figure out if I should love or hate until the end of the book.

The book starts rather slow, with the introduction of the characters and world building, but once the real action starts you will not be able to put it down. I like the introductions that are places at the starts of every chapter, giving you a hint about what’s going to happen, but never telling too much. I loved the abundance of details incredibly much, I adore detailed descriptions because they make you aware of the world around you. And the world from “Enchantment The Moonstone” is eccentric, loud, glamorous, hiding many secrets under vicious faces, in a place where you don’t know who you should take for friend or foe.

I liked the characters, I liked Lou because she is confident, she speaks her mind, she is bold. One of the things that put me off was the way Lou behaved sometimes, a bit immature, like a spoiled kid with a sharp tongue. In my mind she doesn’t behave like a 20 years old, but rather a 16-17 years old girl. I loved Flicka because she is a true friend to Lou and she always brought a smile on my face with her excitement and passion for fashion. I loved Black because he is a fascinating character with a dark aura. He is arrogant and sometimes even despicable, but at the same time he is incredibly alluring. I liked the fact that every character had something special, a specific power, everyone is unique. But in this world, Black is not the only one who catches Lou’s attention, no. There is a potential love triangle, that goes wrong because Lou is precious and desired for her powers in this new world, many waiting to land their hands on her and use her the their advantage.

All the world builds up slowly, real action starting somewhere at the middle of the book. Once I reached the middle, I refused to put it down, it was impossible. The relationship between Back and Lou evolved, but when it becomes too much to handle and too much to risk, he backs down and Lou is completely shattered by his actions. I couldn’t say I like what Black did, but I love complicated relationships, I love the struggle, the fight and heartbreak they cause.

The ending blew my mind. I opened and closed the book several times because I felt bombarded with feelings and truths revealed, the world finally coming together. I must have stared into the book for several minutes, taking everything in because things get really intense.

I loved it. I really loved it. Most of all, I liked the world created in the book, I loved the drama and the masquerade feeling it have to me, the subtle back stabbing and the relationships between the two main characters.

And last, what I didn’t like about the book… it’s rather a matter of preference and details. The cover is gorgeous, but the quality of the image is not the best, the one on the cover is a bit blurry. Some of the translations sound a bit odd, but the book was originally written in French, so this kind of errors can happen. I think the book and world would’ve been better if there were illustrations, drawings, sketches, images to capture the characters and descriptions.

Overall, the book was really good! Giving it over 4.5 stars. I loved it. I recommend it to all fantasy and mythology lovers, it will blow your mind!

*applause*

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Okay where do I start?

Summary:
Lou Mills is an average girl who is about to get two weeks of peace and quiet to read while her parents go on a cruise. Or so she thought. Someone reveals to her that she is an enchanter. Someone with actual magical powers. Lou has a hard time believing all this until her world gets flipped upside down and she is taken to a place you normally would only visit between the pages of a book.

Dislikes:
There were a few parts that felt a little excessive in detail but honestly they did not take away from the story at all.

Likes:
The characters were so incredibly well done. I loved Lou, Charles, Nyx ;) and Black. I don't know what spell Evelyne put over me but I was so engrossed in this story that I did not want it to end. The world was put together beautifully. Now, lets get to my favorite part of this masterpiece, the plot. This plot line was so detailed and thought out, everything flowed so perfectly. There were twists I never saw coming that made my heart drop into the pit of my stomach. Just incredible writing and I will forever be a fan.

Overall:
If you haven't read this, I suggest doing it now! This book is a great urban fantasy and anyone who likes books will really enjoy this world that is shared with us. This is a beautifully told story with amazing cast of characters. I could not believe how attached I became to the characters and the story blew my mind. This is just the perfect book I was looking for to escape this thing we call life. I highly suggest this for lovers of Leigh Bardugo, and Cassandra Claire. And lastly, thank you again Evelyne for allowing me to read this work of art. Forever a fan <3

Let’s talk about The moonstone by Evelyne Contant! The kind hearted Evelyne sent me this gem and I loved every bit of it! This is a story about Lou, a human that learns that her origins are quite peculiar. She is an enchantress!!! No, her parents are not enchanters. Yes, she is adopted. No, her biological parents don’t come up all of the sudden and save her on a white horse. Okay now that we have that all out of the way let’s talk about the action and the characters a little bit.
I feel like the way Evelyne created this world is to be really relatable to a wide public. I mean Lou represents all bookworms, that love their comfort, the not glamour obsessed and more knowledge hungry type of gal, that has an immense sweet tooth. She lives with her parents while trying to scrape together enough money to go to the vastly cultural Greece. Obviously, they live next to a stereotypical witch house (hint Hansel and Gretel reference). Also the ever so present mystical cat that tends to visit our protagonist before bed time, Nyx, a raggedy one eye fur ball that’s always been there for Lou. Her adoptive human parents are exactly the image of loving and caring parents.
Lou’s world begins to crumble when she discovers her true nature and that she is the key to a peace treaty between humans and enchanters! Talk about stress? Things get weird when she goes to work, to the library and she discovers a mysterious book that initiates her transition to achieve her powers. From there on we start to meet other characters, Gertrude, the lovable granny that helps Lou on her journey helped by Charles the British Snape like character of this story. He was in love with Lou’s mother but ends up protecting her daughter with the price of his life. A little more along we meet Flicka, the lovable hipper energetic, fashion obsessed one that ends up being Lou’s BFF! Like really, they are BFF goals! As always, we need a love interest and a villain and this book has multiples! So get your seatbelts tight on and prepare for an adventure!
Now, for why Evelyne is cool and how she made this book soooo relatable. AT EVERY BEGINNING OF CHAPTER THERE IS A QUOTE WHICH IS A FREAKING COOL PERSONAL STAMP! * squeals* I don’t know why but I just love when books have these little touches like Cassandra Clare’s books have. Alsoooo, the music references that are spread here and there like bread crumbs are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Like, hello? Radiohead!!! Ed Sheeran!!! And the funny bits and pieces like this quote:
“- Are you a fairy?
- Oh, my dear, no, not at all. Faeries don’t exist.”
Like duh, magicians, zombies, leprechauns and chupacabra are a thing but the line goes to faeries. I found that quite giggle worthy and a hint similar to the line about zombies in The Mortal Instruments (hint, the discussion between Isabel and Simon).
All in all is a gorgeous read, it has jokes, music references, action, drama, love, MAGIC (all the people that love Harry Potter go whoop, whoop!). Just do yourself a favor and read it. You did? You loved it? You’re really welcome. * continues to read the next book*

Are you a fan of fantasy as well as Greek mythology? Then, you came into the right place as you will experiencing a mind-blowing story and at the same time a unique story about mythology.

"Sometimes when we love, we need to give up our personal needs for those of others. I will never understand how she found the courage to do what she did."

The story is about a girl named Lou Mills that discovered she is an enchanter or specifically a moonchild. At first, she didn't believe it but eventually embrace the fact that she is an enchanter and that she need to fulfill her destiny in order to find the missing Emerald Tablet.

At first, the story is a slow-paced as the characters are being described one by one. But as the chapter goes by you will be experiencing a fast paced story that you will definitely don't want to put the book away.

Also, in the book you will notice some typo-graphical errors and a little bit of wrong grammar. But it is acceptable as the story is originally written in French and later on translated into English.

Characters

Lou is the main character who had the destiny to find the Emerald Tablet that can save the human world and Enchanters as well as the wife of Orpheus. Her character is so relatable and you will admire her of being a strong girl who can easily cope to things even in an under pressure situations. One thing that you will hate about her is that how she handle her feelings toward Black.

Black is one of the characters in the story that has a huge impact to Lou. You will love how mysterious and how unpredictable he is in the story. One thing to love about his character is that how he control himself towards his feelings for Lou and his dedication of love towards his wife whom he wants to save in the underworld.

Got to experience that at first you love his character but ending to hate him? If yes, let me introduce you Zach, the only human in the academy that got to be friends with Lou. He is a dear friend to Lou in the start but eventually turn out to be the one who will put Lou into danger.

Plot

One thing I love about the story is how it is unique in telling the story of Greek mythology and a fantasy story even though it don't have so much action happening in it. Also, you will find how amazing the author had written the story in a way you will cannot predict what will happen next. How things and the revelation were unwrapped in the story is also a thing that you will definitely love and want when reading the story.

All in all, the story is great for reader who want to read a new fresh and unique kind of fantasy story.

Can't wait to read and find a copy of the second book

Rating: 4.5/5

Genre: Fantasy

Recommended Age: 16+

Favorite Quote: ""Good and evil are just a matter of perspective. They're opposites that are separated by a fine line."

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This arrangement did not alter my opinions in any way.

Lou Mills previously had a normal life. She had two adoptive parents who loved her dearly, she worked at the library, and she spent her time dreaming about her future expedition to Greece and reading about the many adventures her fictional characters. However, one night she discovers that she is not at all human. Rather, she's an enchanter and she's the key to an ancient prophecy in which she is the key to saving the world from a war between the humans and the enchanters. Lou must journey to one of the hidden enchanted cities to attend The Academy in order to discover the extent of her newfound powers and to forge a team with others who will help her succeed on her journey. What awaits her at The Academy might be entirely different than her expectations, especially when it comes to the a strange dark, mysterious man. Lou also has to decide what side she will be on when the war finally comes. Will she stick by her family's side or fight with her true people?

I don't know why I always go into a book involving witches comparing it to Harry Potter. It's becoming a bad habit. Anyways, while this isn't at all like Harry Potter, it's honestly really and truly amazing! It was a magical experience reading this book and I devoured this book almost in one sitting. The words seems to take a life of their own and just flow off the page. The author has a talent for creating a story that creates a new spin on themes that have been written about for centuries. In this story, the enchanters don't use wands or have access to every spell imaginable. Their powers are nature based and they only have certain skills they can use. They also wear necklaces that are connected to their powers (no more on that to avoid spoilers). The author also incorporates Greek mythology into her story, which gives it a bit of a Percy Jackson feel.

While I enjoyed the story, I had a bit of an issue with some of the characters. In this story, the enchanters are supposed to be lacking a lot of the varied emotions that humans possess, but with some of them I found they were much more complex than needed to be. My two big issues with the characters were concentrated on Eloi (can't do accents over letters, SORRY!) and Mr. Black. I felt one had a complete character flip in the book and the other was hypocritical. Lou's relationship between her and this one particular character gave me such a creepy vibe that I couldn't shake it. I actually had to stop reading sometimes because I felt extremely creeped out. And if the author was going for that effect, she did amazingly! I think his character was supposed to be conflicting and infuriating, but I'm not sure if creepy was supposed to be part of his character traits.

Overall, I really liked this story, I was enchanted by it, and the second book is available for pre-order now! I will definitely be obtaining this book and reviewing it in the future, so be on the lookout!

3.5 stars for this one!

So I need to break this review in 2 parts: 1st pre chapter 7 and the 2nd is chapter 7 and onward

So here it goes (pre-chapter 7): I though the first chapters were wayy to big and all the things happening in them seem too rushed and kind of contraditory, and it makes Lou (our main character) look a little childish and I do think we needed to see a bit more work on the "finding about this world and becoming part of them" plot in the sense that she accepts all of this way to fast. But I do think she's a good character: approachable and relatable. And I liked too see her growth, she's her head on the ground more in the end and doesn't have so many "fits".
Then there're 2 things I still don't get. We have a ceremony that's suppose to do one thing for Lou specifically because she's been living with humans but then they're like "we do this to every child like you" and I was like "what the heck? wasn't this supposed to be for other thing?" and I still can't let it go the fact that there's an association between apollo and water. Why? I can't get it. I mean, medicine, son, arts, music. But water?

And for chapter 7 and onward: LORD BLACK SAVED THIS BOOK! I cant'! He's a really good character. And his story, my heart! I have to admit that at the beggining I was thinking all that was happening between him and Lou was a bit rushed but I get it now. I may or may not have started to have a theory about the end and I hate being right, it took a bit of the wow factor of it, but overall I like it. The "hating humans because they're inferior" plot kind of pisses me of but I guess it's part of the main plot so it's needed or we wouldn't have a book. But seriously, charismatic and mysterious Lord Black's so worth it. I'm kind of in love.

So, overall I like this book. I was expecting something differente at the beginning, and those frist 7 chapters took me FOR EVER to get past but it's a good enough book with a good concept and I do think the world's well built, with really good descriptions. I'm really curious to see the end of this story!

i have some mixed feelings about this book, but the ending had me so hooked that i couldn't help but rate it 5 stars. first thing's first: black is an abusive asshole. second thing: i can't believe i like him.

the starting of this book was very slow. i was a little confused as there wasn't much world building, but everything gets explained slowly as the book progresses. i really like the idea of the school where everyone trains. i felt lou was a little mary sue with how easily she seemed to pick everything up, but it's pretty much forgiven by the fact that her mentality matches up to the crazed events. (i mean, i too would feel the same way she did if i were dumped into a whole new world and didn't even know what was going on).

i really enjoyed flicka, lou's friend. i wish she played a more major role in the book, but i suspect she will in the sequel. i want to learn more about her as a person/character. she doesn't get much development in the moonstone, but i was quite happy with the little that she did get.

there is a twist that i didn't see coming (like, at all). i'm so happy with that as it's something that rarely happens. usually, it's so easy to guess, but not this time. there's actually 2 major twists, and i suspected neither.

so, one thing i'm really conflicted about is black. he's originally presented and exposed as controlling and abusive. i liked that. these "bad boy" types need to be exposed. but by the end of the book, it's kinda forgotten. he is romanticised quite a lot, and i'm not okay with that. (in saying that, i also really like him even though i know i shouldn't.)

this book is really good (for a paranormal romance type of book). i don't read these sorts of books often, but i'm so glad i picked this one up. i will definitely be reading the next book in this series and i recommend you do too.

I was blown away from the story!! The beginning was all mysterious and I was actually not getting what's happening, but after 3 chapters the whole story speeded up and something amazing happened! The storyline was perfect and detailed so I totally understood this World and how it works! And I must say this book gets you addicted to Lou and her friends! Oh and its based on Greek mythology so...
So basically Lou (who thinks she is an ordinary girl ) finds out that she is an Enchanter which means she has powers. The strongest amongst all Enchanters! Pretty awesome huh? She joins the Academy to improve and get stronger and to have a team she can go on missions: to find the Emerald Tablet. This might help her to avoid the awakening war between humans and enchanters.
At the Academy she must face her fears, how to blend in to a world she just happened to realize it's part of her. The enchanting balls makes you want to appear there and Mr.Black Yes! There is a way too mysterious man who supports the Academy and somehow Lou. (I'm not gonna tell who he is , you must read the book).
This book is full of amazing, funny and incredible characters (such as Flicka a really chatty girl with Earth sign, Pax whose sign is Air and the twins-Fire and Water) and huge twists!
Literally I was screaming at the end of the book and immediately wanted to start the second!
We are lucky it just came out and you can find both books on Amazon
.
I highly recommend reading! You won't regret!
Thanks for reading my review! ..

Enchantement series review
to be honest i had a hard time starting this series, the writing style is different from books i mostly read so thats probably the reason for it. when i got through the first 3 chapters and got used to the writing style i was hooked!
the story follows Lou who discovers that she is an enchanter, and not just any enchanter but a moonchild and the key to an ancient prophecy. will she leave her (human) parents to discover where she belongs? and while doing so fighting for the one she loves?
first of all i have to say that i absolutely love Lou and the fact that i can 100% relate to her. what i also love is that (like most YA main characters) she doesnt want to do everything herself and actually cares about other things.
i think that the story is refreshing and other that most 'famous' YA books. it takes a few chapters for the story to take you in but once its got you it wont let you go. the way its written really makes you experience the story in a different way and makes you want to finish it as soon as possible, just to know what happens next. i like the fact that the quest to get the emerald tablet isnt finished within one book but is spread out over the 3 books. this creates space for other things to happen, like creating a team and Black. which is another thing, the 'love story' part of this series doesnt take the upper hand when its made offical (that doesnt make it less fun to read though, writer can we please have more cute Lou and Black scenes?). over all i think the series is great and deserves a place among those 'famous YA bestsellers'.

Yes I am a sucker for any fantasy book that involves in myths and lore. Especially Greek myths. It has been my love since I was a child so I couldn't pass up this opportunity.

So let's get started

We have two lives; and the second begins when we realize we only have one. -Confucius
Lord Black ticked everything on my Book Boyfriend check list. Tall, Dark, Handsome, and Mysterious. I could drown on those freakish blue eyes all day.

The world of Enchantment is, well enchanting *cough* sorry. A young girl discovering her true magical roots and also a destiny to be fulfilled.

Yes, I did finish the book in one day.
Yes, I do feel crushed...

First I want to thank the amazing author, Evelyne, for providing me with a copy of this book to review. I am thankful to have gotten a chance to read it!

The Moonstone is the kind of book that you don’t know what to expect from. The first three to four chapters left me intrigued, but with only a small sense of where the story was going. I kept an open mind and was pleasantly surprised!
The writing was in my opinion quite poetic at times, and I often found myself laughing at not only the things characters did or said, but also at the way it got narrated. There were mentions of everyday stuff that really helped to make the story realistic. The Beatles, Ed Sheeran and other celebrities or things of the sort. When ‘Give me love’ by Ed Sheeran got mentioned I found myself smiling and humming the song as I read! Having things like that made me really appreciate it, and got me to connect more with Lou!
Something I really like about Lou is that she is realistic. She isn’t overly sarcastic/confident or shy like some characters are. From the start she stood on her two feet. She did have a lot of space to grow, but even though she was naive, it was in the way that is expected when you are in such situations. Now that I think of it, I can’t remember many moments where I cringed or had to put the book down because she had run headfirst in an unnecessary position in comparison to a lot of characters we see in books.
She treated people the way she would want to be treated and had with that gotten respected by the reader.

I liked the way characters were introduced! Not all at once like you would expect, but from time to time someone new would pop up and join the gang. They all added their own flavour to the story!
Another thing I liked about Lou was that she didn’t brag when her powers started to come out powerful. She acted like the adult she is, most of the time, and worked with the people around her along with trying to adjust to her new reality.
When she met Black it all went a really interesting direction. Black is a really interesting character…
He is the mysterious, previous-villain type that I, along with a lot of people, always love. He can be categorized with character like Rhysand and the Darkling. Even if you don’t like these characters, don’t form an opinion of Black based on that because he goes his own interesting way that I can assure will leave you with questions, but most of all appreciation! He truly gives something special to the story and I found my heart broken at the end of the story.

Another thing I liked was that there were famous quotes at the beginning of each chapter. Albert Einstein, Martin Luther King, Bob Marley, some I recognized and some I didn’t. I found it very amusing to read the quotes, that seemed to describe the chapters, and then try to find the connection between them.
The story itself was in my opinion a good blend of being character driven but also following plot twists! There were a few thing I wouldn't have seen coming if my life depended on it, but not every plot twist was that way. I often find that I enjoy stories where I see some plot twists coming more than stories where everything has to hit you in the head and you are left with a crushed mind, haha. There weren’t back to back action scenes, but the book still left me up and reading at 2 am!
At 3 am, having finished the book I’m feeling pain for some characters, but mostly joy to see how their story continues, and with the ending of the Moonstone I can’t wait to see what the next book, Atlantis, will throw my way!

Things to note;

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review, however this does not have an impact on my opinions. Also, the original story is written in French and I read the translated version in English.

Alright, let’s get to reviewing.

Briefly, the story in The Moonstone follows our MC Lou Mills who is twenty one years old. She’s living an ordinary life, living with her parents and working at a library to save up money for studies abroad. As her parents leave on a cruise, Lou conveniently finds out that she is a witch and part of an ancient group of witches called enchanters. As you can imagine, shit hits the fan after that.

I’ll say it right off the bat - this story just wasn’t for me because there was no part of the story that was enjoyable to me personally. Everyone has different tastes and preferences, and that’s fine. If you enjoyed this book I’m happy for you. Whilst I understand that this is the author’s debut novel, I feel obliged to give constructive feedback on this piece of work so I’ll be focusing on that aspect, rather than my own opinions.

The reader is greeted into the story with the first chapter that seems like it’s never going to end. (It’s 73 pages long.) There were too many info dumps within the first few chapters and it felt as if I couldn’t get a break to try and process everything. It was too much, too quick, and too confusing. The magic system felt very weak with no solid foundation as to how it operates and just in general there was too much going on. Once the MC found out she was a witch she immediately got bombarded with “you can do this, and also this, and this too!” That got tiresome to follow. When it comes to magic systems, in the words of Brandon Sanderson - “go deeper, instead of wider”.

This novel is littered with the ever so familiar tropes and cliches we see too often already, which wasn’t exciting either. Speaking of, the entirety of the story was very confusing to wrap my head around because on one hand, you have the MC who is twenty one years old (which would make this novel fit to the NA genre), yet the writing and the way she reacted to situations and the way she said some things felt very middle grade. I mean, I’m gonna go on a limb here and say that there is the potential that the tone of the story could have been lost in translation. Who knows.

This book in general felt like a first draft of a novel. You know, the very first book that you’ve ever written that usually never gets published - this book felt like that. The writing in this is not bad, however pretty much everything was told, and very little was shown. Also, there were too many things that happened in the story that were just way too convenient. That just doesn’t happen in real life.

Overall, even though this book wasn’t for me, the author does have potential to write great works in the future. The writing is easy to read and ideas are there, I think it just comes down to the fact that there needs to be more practicing and learning more about the craft.
