Izzy the Invisible
A sweet and gentle story about sisters, trust, parrots, disappearing . . . and doing the right thing.
Eight-year-old Izzy is more curious, playful and clumsy than her serious, grown-up sister Carrie. In fact Izzy is much more like Gran, an eccentric scientist who has a house full of weird and wonderful pets. But when one of Gran's experiments backfires, Izzy discovers that she has the ability to become invisible! That is, unless Perky the parrot is perched on her shoulder, or she has one of his feathers safely stowed in her pocket. Yikes!
While Gran searches for an antidote, Izzy explores her invisibility - to her and Perky's amusement - but Mum, Dad and Carrie aren't impressed. Can Izzy prove that she is using her invisibility to help those around her, and regain her sister's trust?

Onzichtbare Izzy is een leuk leesboek voor kinderen aan het einde van de onderbouw, of begin bovenbouw van de basisschool (7-9 jaar). Het is een verhaal over Izzy die per ongeluk onzichtbaar wordt en vervolgens een aantal spannende avonturen beleeft. Het is een vrolijk boek waarin de schrijfster de sfeer luchtig houdt. Uit een aantal situaties waarin Izzy verzeild raakt, zou de lezer een moraal kunnen trekken. Het is echter de vraag of kinderen tussen 7 en 9 jaar dit zelf zullen herkennen, wanneer er niet specifiek naar gevraagd wordt.
Wat betreft taalgebruik en leesvaardigheid is het boek vooral geschikt voor de wat gevorderde lezer. De schrijfster gebruikt regelmatig lange woorden of woorden waarvan het kind maar net de betekenis moet weten. Dit maakt het boek echter ook uitdagend voor lezer. Het boek nodigt uit om door te blijven lezen en weet de aandacht vast te houden, omdat de hoofdstukken niet te lang zijn en de illustraties tussendoor goed passen bij het verhaal.
Al met al een vrolijk, leuk en uitdagend boek.

een heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel leuk boek omdat izzy naar haar oma gaat en er komt iets van een drank op haar en als ze dan de veer van kapie in haar hand heeft word ze onzichtbaar

This was just even more adorable than I thought it would be.
Say hello to Izzy, a little girl who is quite clumsy (really, she is, she doesn't even do it on purpose, she just wants to be nice and then bumps stuff over). And thanks to that clumsiness she is now invisible... well, if she drops the parrot or its feather. I really liked that catch to the invisibleness. Instead of having her just be invisible she is now stuck to a parrot (a really fun parrot, more on that in a bit) or its feather. It gave the invisibility a new twist, as she needed to have those 2 near her or she would be invisible for good.
I was also happy to see her use the invisibility for mostly good use. Only once did she really abuse it. It is a delight to have a kid use this power like this, I was already worried she might abuse it or do things with it that weren't nice. Luckily, she didn't. Izzy is a nice girl.
I was a bit worried about the parrot. I have read several stories with parrots as pets, but from what I remember they were mostly annoying, frustrating, and I just wanted to fry them. Not Perky however. Perky was an amazing addition, and I just loved all he did for Izzy.
He was fun, and I loved Izzy and Perky's bond, they just matched so well. They were truly best friends.
I loved the granny, she was just amazing. Though I did feel a bit sorry for her pets.
I didn't like the old lady next door however. Sorry to hear that vandals ruined stuff for you, but is that a way to treat everyone in your neighbourhood? To act like that to every kid? That is just rude and mean. Bah. :|
I loved the relationship between sisters. A bit rocky, but that ending, it just made me a bit teary-eyed.
There are also illustrations, and well I just loved them. They were fun, interesting, and I just love how the characters were drawn and how well they fitted (this might sound strange, I mean that they fit with how I would see the characters based on the story/description).
I loved the ending, it was a nice one, and I laughed at what happened there. :)
All in all this is a book I would highly recommend to everyone!

Onzichtbare Izzy. Wat een verrassend leuk boek is dit. Ik heb het boek eerst laten lezen door een meisje van negen jaar. Zij vindt lezen nog wat moeilijk, maar was dol enthousiast over dit boek. Wat mij erg aansprak is dat de personages in dit verhaal niet blank worden afgebeeld. Mijn kleine lezeres is dat ook niet en ik vermoed dat het meespeelt bij het leesplezier. Het verhaal is heerlijk om te lezen, spannend met grappige voorvallen. Wie zou er nou niet soms een streek uit willen halen?
