Jules Coronado has been away from her hometown for almost a decade but when an intruder breaks in to her childhood home, she finds herself coming back. Changes evidently took place in her small town, including her childhood best friend’s younger brother, Kip – now tall, slightly scruffed, all grown up and caught climbing into their garden wall.

Kip Villamor has a mission an

Yep. That's just me the whole time. Dawn Lanuza brings out the romantic side of me from my icy and snarky exterior. Well played Dawn! Well played!

"You ever felt like there are two versions of you, and they dont exist in the same place."

I have bee a fan of Dawn Lanuza ever since I read her first book, The Boyfriend Backtrack, which by the way is a great life choice because not only did I enjoy that smart and sweet story but I also got the chance to meet our main character in The Hometown Ha

This one is so cute! A perfect read after Infini. It's like the romantic adult version of Trouble is a Friend of Mine except this book isn't problematic. Trope: childhood friends to lovers slash reconnecting. Also, the heroine is older than the love interest by three years.

I like how Dawn Lanuza writes, I intend to read the rest of her backlist this year. Review to come.

Copy of book provided by bookbed.org for review! Thank you :)

Juliana Coronado is back in her hometown, albeit reluctantly, and what was supposed to be a quick visit has turned into a throwback of sorts when she and her childhood best friend's younger brother, Kip, team up to solve a mystery. As Juliana and Kip follow the clues, they lead to things Juliana would rather forget. Unfortunately, Kip is determined, and Juliana is realizing that there are things that refuse to be buried, like the past,

The Hometown Hazard is a book shrouded with mystery and sprinkled with a bit of romance. It has character development, mystery that will keep you flipping the pages and an easy going pace. I love that the author went out of her comfort zone to write this book. It’s completely different compared to her previous work.

If you have read Ms. Dawn’s debut novel then you’ll be familiar with the protagonist in this book. Jules is the no-nonsense friend of Regina. She’s very serious and she’s the type of

I don't really know how to put my thoughts into words because two weeks after finishing it, I believe I'm still a little bit [book] hungover. To say that it was 'okay' would be an understatement.

I'll try to get the mystery part out of the way first. I always love a good mystery and this one proved to be something worthwhile. Yes, I might have guessed a thing or two from the overall plot twists in the story but the aut

So good that it goes straight to my Favorites of the Year and of All-Time.

That a little too drastic? Pfft, not at all.

Dawn Lanuza maps this story out at just the right pace, with all the right detours and signs. I loved the plot, the characters, the conflict, the resolution—every major aspect, I found to be on point. Kip and Jules, when together, are like electricity; it's all ssszzznap from start to finish,

I’ve always admired Dawn Lanuza’s snappy and straightforward storytelling. She also has the ability to create remarkable characters. Readers will surely love “The Hometown Hazard”.

Jules and Kip have this crazy chemistry going on between them. They’re opposites—Jules is shielded and careful while Kip is reckless and daring. All their bickering and “bonding” while trying to solve a mystery that involves the most important people in their lives made their situation easier to follow.

My Random Thoughts

Kip or Crispin is the ultimate Bae. He's cute and a bad ass. And Jules, she's just so likable. I mean she always freaks out most of the time, especially when it comes to Kip.

The Hometown Hazard is love.

I love it! I love it! I love it! Kip and Jules! Shipped.

It's one of the few stories I felt so kilig without smutty scenes, well, what I read most of the time are from Marian Tee (you know what to expect from her, hihi) and Manga authors, but then I've read some from Mina V. Esgu

This has been the second book I’ve read from Dawn and I’m really happy to say that this doesn’t disappoint. If I may say so, The Hometown Hazard is better in terms of dynamics and depth of the story compared to her debut, The Boyfriend Backtrack, which is actually related to this book. The MCs are friends.

This book really went beyond the usual Filipino Chick-lit formula. It has different elements that added and built up the story in an excellent way. The story hits close to me since it’s set her

When I started reading this, I was actually expecting for Jules to track down her exes for breaking in her parent’s house. By Chapter 4, still no past relationships were being mentioned so I checked the synopsis and realized I confused this with another Dawn Lanuza book, The Boyfriend Backtrack. For three chapters, I was in a limbo where I was enjoying the story and the flow of Dawn’s writing, while at the same time getting utterly bewildered because I was waiting for something else entirely! &g ...more

I loved this book. So much.

It’s a new adult romance book but it’s not our typical romance novel. It has a hint of mystery and it made the book more interesting! It’ll leave you flipping through the pages! I came up with several theories in my head only to find out that I was wrong. Although, I did realize it later on, but it was still shocking.

I have known the MC from the author’s previous book, The Boyfriend Backtrack. And I get to see a different side of Jules! I also like the fact that a part

Intense, suspenseful and beautiful

I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into when I read The Hometown Hazard. But I must admit my heart fell for that charming, funny and thoughtful Kip just a few chapters in.

Super satisfying buildup, a lot of kilig moments and smart, refreshing banter. Some issues with consistent tense usage and odd word choices would pull me out of the story. It's made up for it by the big reveal and the resolution - a sweet and satisfying ending.

The past few months I have only been reading #romanceclass books (not that this is a problem) and every book takes me to a different world, to a different adventure. Reading The Boyfriend Backtrack reminded me of my love for this kind of stories, the ones that made you think, made you speculate, the ones that awaken your inner Detective. The road to unfolding piece by piece of the puzzle is amazing in itself but with Kip and Jules along the way, it only made it better. And oh, Kip is super cute! ...more
