The Cat and Co. take off to the faraway land of Gerpletz where they know quite a lot about caring for pets—especially cats, dogs, guinea pigs, birds, and bunnies! From the food, shelter, exercise, and medical care they need to the love and companionship they crave, the Cat teaches beginning readers how to keep their pets (and themselves!) healthy, safe, and happy.
Bibliographical note: 'All About Our Animal Friends' is a strap-line on the cover but is not carried through to the title page and the book is catalogued according to the title page.

In contrast to many of the other books in this admirable series, The Cat in the Hat Learning Library', the Cat turns his attention of domestic animals and tells his friends Sally and Nick about the animals that they might encounter as pets in the home.
The Cat gets the children to travel with him in the quirky bus to Gerpletz where there is a 'Play with Your Pet Park'. First of all they see dogs who chase balls and catch toys and then kittens who tumble in heaps and climb up on posts. Playing with string is not allowed because 'pets get tangled and that is not a good thing'.
Guinea pigs, rabbits and birds are seen next and when they are all finished having fun they go along to the Finer Pet Diner for something to eat! And there Mr and Mrs Finer tune their menus to the specific requirements of the pets.
Of course pets want to make friends and be part of a family so the Cat shows the children examples of that and of the accommodation that is needed to make them all happy and comfortable.
The Cat then hosts a 'Pets of Gerplatz' TV show' and he introduces plenty of guests and explains their requirements to stay healthy and happy, and she has Ms Fuzzy Finwinkle, the mayor of Gerplatz, to help in his presentation.
Finally he explains what they should do to keep themselves and their pets and themselves healthy before explaining that pets should remain in the children's homes and their hearts for life.
It is yet another great book from The Cat in the Hat Learning Library'.
This is my daughter’s favorite book so I had to read it too. Always fascinates me when someone can get the words to rhyme yet the paragraph still makes sense!!
This book engages you as soon as you look at the cover, with the colorful illustrations of the Cat in the Hat surrounded by animals, it is a very happy scene. The story starts with telling the reader they will be going to "Gerpletz" a place where they know a lot about caring for pets. The book goes into the things it takes to own a pet, like how to care for them, how to hold them, what type of cage they would like, it is very informative to teach children the biggest things on how to care for a pet animal. I believe this is a very well written and put together book on teaching kids the meaning and effort it takes to have a pet animal. The full bleed illustrations that are colorful keep the child engaged into what is happening in the book. I loved this because it is very informative and more "real" than most of the make believe things in the other Cat in the Hat stories. It offers real life advice for kids who might be getting a new pet or already have one. Not only does it tell them that they should do all of these things with their pet, but it shows how-to's and explains it to the children. I recommend this book for any child who will need help warming up and caring for a pet!
Okay, this book is what every child needs when they are young. Oh, the Pets You Can Get is literally the holy grail of what you need to know when you have a pet. I love that this book was educational and fun and taught readers basic pet knowledge. Oh, the Pets You Can Get is all about caring for pets. It talks about the different needs that pets have, what they need to eat, where they live, what kind of exercise or entertainment they need and it provided helpful tips on keeping your animals healthy. I like that the book provided animal diversity, it didn't just stick to dogs and cats, the book talked about birds, bunnies and guinea pigs too! This book would be perfect for a classroom with lots of animal lovers, we could brainstorm ways to take care of pets and read this book, then compare our answers. I loved this book very much and wish I had it while I was young and was begging my parents for a pet.
This book teaches kids about taking care of pets, but it is told in a fun, story-like format. The cat-in-the-hat takes readers on a journey to a town named Gerpletz where there are many different animals there. When he is there, he points out the different animals you can have as pets and also the proper way to take care of your pets. A literary element used in this book is rhyme. This is a unique element because the book is for learning purposes, but the rhyming makes it more vibrant and interesting. I rated this book three stars because it was an educational book written in a fun way, which makes it easier for children to understand. Along with the fun rhymes and story, the pictures were vibrant and fun to look at. Personally, I didn't think it was great, but for a children's book, it is good quality.
This book has a lot of good information. It talks about a lot of different pets and how to care for them.
Each page has at least one small paragraph on it, but usually ends up having more. My toddler actually sat through me reading this whole book, but she kept getting distracted by the TV playing in the background.
The illustrations in this book were cute, and aided the information being given.
I really enjoyed this book. I think it would be perfect for older kids to read to help explain their responsibilities before getting a pet.
Considering this was a maybe-this-book-will-put-cranky-six-month-old-to-sleep read for me, it was surprisingly decent and definitely the highlight of my babysitting experience, aside from aforementioned six month old's explosive diarrhea.

First book that I have read in this Cat in the Hat's Learning library and part of the whole Dr Seuss stable. Tish Rabe is the author here and she is quite proficient at what she does. A decent read here. And she will appear more times soon.
I though this book was great to teach kids about how to take care of pets when they are younger. It makes a good Segway to teach them about pets before they get one. Lots of kids want a puppy and this would be a great way to ease them into the idea of getting a pet and how to care for it.
A look at pet care, and the many different pets that are available to a person. Told in rhyme this book is a must read for any pet owner, or future pet owner.
I got this from the library because I was hoping it would clue Deacon in that it isn't really okay to bite the cat, even if it's gently. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there's a book in existence that goes over that, really.
Aside from that, this is a decent rhyming book about pets ranging from cats, to dogs, to rabbits, etc. and was pretty informative about some of the basic care that these animals needed. I don't really enjoy the Cat in the Hat spinoff books, mostly because it feels vaguely like they stole something another author created.
This is a great book that talks about how to pick out the best pet as well as how to care for your pets. Our girls noticed right away that it is full of "real things," as opposed to the typical Dr. Seuss books that have make believe creatures, places and things. It follows the typical Dr. Seuss book format and is educational without being too preachy or boring. The only bad part was having to quell the excitement our girls mustered for getting new pets (we already have quite a few!)

I bought this book when I was pregnant, in anticipation of my child because we have a pet. The book tells of how to care for cats and dogs in Seussian rhyme. It is a lot of fun to read, if only my daughter would let me get to the end, lol.
Story that teaches the importance of caring for your pet. How to feed them, give them clean water, and even doctor visits once at least once a year. This book's bright illustrations held my baby girl's attention.
My son got this for Christmas from his aunt. It is a darling little book and so informative about getting different types of pets for kids (and adults, for that matter). It is a bit long to read to a little one but is great nonetheless.
All of the Cat in the Hat library books have been nice to read. They are science books without being 'science in your face' books. Children learning as they read ( being read to) without knowing they are learning. Told in rhyming paragraphs makes reading fun and easy.
