Vivienne Lorret is a new author to me but The Season's Original series has definitely got a budding fan in the making! I loved Liam and Adeline, I feel like when I say Adeline has a disability, I'm being disloyal to her character because her disability probably made her a better person and is what ultimately made her stand out from the rest, which would make it not a disability... right? On another note I haven't read many historical romances with disabled or less than perfect heroines and I really enjoyed that about this book. Not that I don't enjoy reading romances about Dukes and earls falling in love with perfect blonde and blue eyed debutantes, but it is quite refreshing when an author throws a curve ball like this.

Liam the Earl of Wolford .... lands up on the Pimm's doorstep after he is brutally attacked, and from the moment Adeline sees him she knows he is unlike any other man she's ever known. The Pimm curse hard at work ( read the book you'll get it if you do). Liam, like all broody nobleman has some hangs up ( which never messed with his hot and steamy vibe) he's been burnt in the past and is weary of all debutantes no matter how sweet and innocent they may seem.

Since this is the second book in the series I missed out on all this wager business but I plan to remedy that. Throw in some secrets passages, hidden doors, questionable relatives and artefacts and you have the makings of a great historical romance!
Highly recommended!

This is the story of Miss Adeline Pimm and Liam Cavanaugh. I have not yet read the previous book so for me this was a standalone book. Although after enjoying this one I do want to get that previous book called 'The Debutante Is Mine'.

Everyone was kind and friendly save for the villain (late appearance), but the hero is so pig-headed that I wanted to smack him a few times. From that moment, Adeline feels a certain skip in her heart....and it's denial, denial, denial from that moment on, as she never intends to marry and she will never be pitied or coddled again.

The sweet sound of Adeline's voice is the one thing that keeps the pain at bay for Liam, and the more time they spend together, the more they banter and the more the heat flares between them. You can literally see the sparks ignite when they are in the same room...and you will never think of porridge as sexy until you read this book!

The flow of the story is slow building, as a bit of mystery starts to build in the story, but I simply adore the way that Vivienne is able to write characters that feel so real, almost as if you are transported back in time, joining the ladies for an afternoon tea, or taking a turn about the room at one of the Dower Duchesses parties.

I can't tell you enough how much I am loving the Season's Original series, and the group of friends that we encounter throughout each title. I loved the backstory of Liam and Adeline, two people who basically want the same things, for different reasons and they fight the feelings they have for each other at every turn. I literally cried through the whole last few chapters!

OK....my suggestion is to buy THIS EARL IS ON FIRE....and you might want to grab THE DEBUTANTE IS MINE as well....and even the Holiday Anthology, ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A DUKE, where we get Ivy and Vale's romance, THE DUKE'S CHRISTMAS WISH.

Honestly, I didn't come into this book with the right mind frame. This book was slow, cute, loving, and wonderful. I wanted cute cute sex cute cute. This book was more cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute sex cute. So I hope that was an accurate description. And if it wasn't... you'll see what I mean after you read it then.

Our heroine, Adeline, I liked her. She only annoyed me one time towards the beginning when she thought that being a spinster was her freedom. In this time, no it wasn't. Sadly women didn't have freedom. That was a farfetched dream right there. Especially with her (shorted leg).

Our hero, Liam. Omg, Liam was to die for. I don't know what it is about him that has me short of breath, but I loved him. His attitude, demeanor, and almost all the way sexiness was enough for me. What I didn't like was the mention of him doing depraved stuff and going to orgies eww. It wasn't described necessarily in detail, but it was still gross to me.

Oh, one weird thing about the book was the fact that.. I don't know. Rakes are described differently in this book's society than in most, if not all, the other HR books. Usually rakes are all men that are young so no one really cares, but they know to keep their daughters away, in this one its almost like public news to the point where its their almost shunned but not shunned? It was weird.

The climax seems random to some people but *shrugs* I liked it. It brought some nice action.

She snuggled deeper into this dream, sliding her leg over the coverlet, that-apparently-had bunched up against her. Strange, but even the coverlet was firm, thick, and far warmer than she remembered.
"Mind your knee, Miss Pimm."
Hmm... that was unexpected. She'd heard Liam's voice in a dream prior to this one, but he hadn't sounded so hoarse. Then perhaps in this dream, he had a head cold. It seemed possible.
She burrowed closer.
Liam chuckled. "I do not have a cold."...

"But I enjoyed what you did with you tongue. It was quite... enlightening." She ended with a dreamy smile.
{..}
"In what way?" he asked because, well, apparently he was an idiot.

"Ah, yes. They are gathering sheaves of wheat, symbolizing..."
He coughed on the final word. He couldn't seem to escape it.
"Fertility," she supplied for him.

Setting the cup down, he stood. "Which brings me to the reason for my visit. You see, I was wondering if, perhaps, you might delay your return for a time. Not long"--he swallowed--"just until I marry your daughter." There. He said it. At least, he thought he did.

Liam grinned, licking a drop of honey off the pad of his thumb and watching his bride's eyes follow, her cheeks flushing with color. Likely, she would never see honey without blushing again--he'd made sure of it. ...more

Due to an accident at birth, Adeline has one leg that is shorter than the other which led to her parents sheltering her quite a bit. This meant Adeline was fairly lonely growing up and she has a hard time connecting with people. With the trip to London, Adeline hopes to prove to her parents, and herself, that she can take care of herself and doesn't need to be coddled. Liam lost his parents young and wasn't close to anyone until he left for school. He's wary of relationships due to a bad experience in his past which is what caused him to turn into a rake.

Adeline and Liam's relationship gets off to an interesting start due to him showing up unconscious on her doorstep. As he's recovering, his eyes are covered so Liam is drawn to Adeline solely based on her voice and their conversations. I really enjoyed the friendship the pair developed while Liam was recuperating. After Liam recovers and leaves, he begins showing up at events where Adeline is to spend time with her, as well as to quell the inevitable gossip that arose due to how they met. There is a bit of a misunderstanding towards the end of the book that I thought was unnecessary, but I was happy with how it was resolved. I was surprised by the small bit of suspense near the end of the book, but it was a welcome addition and was great for Adeline and Liam's relationship.

Overall This Earl is on Fire was an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, When a Marquess Loves a Woman, soon. ...more

Trying to resist falling in love with him while he recovers from his injuries? Quite likely to prove impossible.

Adeline and Liam. Well they're something. Both are dead set against marriage for their own particular reasons but they can't seem to help being drawn to one another even though they try to resist it. I liked her fire, sharp wit, and determination to not let her deformity--one leg is shorter than the other--hinder her or stifle her independence in a society that's oh so quick to judge. And Liam. I loved his slightly wicked self, his obsession with artifacts, and his vulnerable moments. He could also be very sweet in giving her the adventure she longed for. They were just a great pairing and had such fun banter.

There was a lot of time with him healing from the unexplained attack and her tending to him. I really enjoyed that and the closeness that it brought between them.

Now, her family! They're so sweet and generous and loving. It always makes me happy seeing a healthy loving family in romance. So often a bad family life is used to create a story for the characters and it was nice to see something different for the heroine.

All in all, This Earl is on Fire was just a fun easy read which is what I'm coming to expect from Lorret. I really did love this one. It's a quick read that was impossible to put down. From the main characters to their families and the reluctant romance. Even a little mystery of his attackers and recent robberies underlying it all. It was exciting. fun and left me energized. I love when I close a book and just have an extra little kick in my step. Completely enchanting! ...more

Vivienne Lorret is a recently discovered author for me, and for the most part, I've loved her books. This one fell a little bit short, and I think it was the kind of simplicity and lack of depth of everything. Given the setup, it's a perfect situation for the hero and heroine to get to know each other very well, but I think this story suffered from the fact that Lorret's books are often a bit shorter than your standard romance novel.

I enjoyed his second installment in Vivienne Lorret’s series of the Season’s Original as much as I did the first. It’s sweet and engaging with a jaded hero and the sweet, country miss who shows him that it may be worth it to trust people again.

We met Liam, the Earl of Wolford, in the last book. He came off as a complete wastrel, but we learn here that he crafted that reputation on purpose. Liam is trying to keep himself apart from society, specifically the conniving debutantes, scheming for a rich and titled husband. He loves to collect valuable artifacts and he’s actually quite smart, but he likes to hide the truths of himself from the world.

As the story begins, Liam is paying the price for his passion for antiquities. Someone has badly beaten him, trying to get their hands on part of his collection. He was left a heap on the floor where Adeline Pimm’s family is moving in for the Season. The Pimms find him and decide to nurse him back to health.

Adeline never wants to marry, so she certainly didn’t come to London to find a husband. Instead, she is trying to prove to her parents that, despite her limp, she can be as independent and capable as any young woman. Despite her resolve, she is instantly drawn to her handsome patient, and the two of them connect as he recovers.

Their friendship is fast but they aren’t a couple right away. I like that they had what felt like a sincere friendship –a foundation for things to come. They share secrets with one another and begin a trust. Honestly, though, it’s a trust very hard coming for Liam, but that’s his journey.

I felt like the entire mystery about his attack and artifacts was a bit predictable — not only who was behind it all, but how it would climax. Thankfully, however, it was the romance that moved this story and I enjoyed that. Adeline may have been sheltered from many things, but she never came off as overly naïve or childish. She did what she set out to do — she proved herself more than capable, someone clearly not limited by her physical challenges. In fact, in many ways she was more mature emotionally than Liam, because of the way he lived his life.

Liam is kind of the standard noble turned rake, trying to overcome a hurt from his younger years. And he did hold on to it a bit too long. But he and Adeline were a good fit and I enjoyed watching them fall for each other.

You don’t have to read The Debutante is Mine to enjoy this one. But that book is good too. Now I am looking forward to Thayne and Juliet’s book.

Vivienne Lorret has been added to my slowly growing list of historical authors that I'm really enjoying. If you follow me on my blog or goodreads you will see I usually shy away from them, but for the past two months I have been getting more into them and finding some I really do enjoy and I'm happy to say This Earl Is On Fire is one of them. The part I loved the most in this book is, the heroine is not perfect. Adeline is disabled but independent and strong and an all around likeable character. Not as good as the previous installment, but I enjoy reading historical romances by this author nonetheless. Her writing is superb even if I may not like all her characters and stories. This one bordered on predictable, but Adeline was a very likable heroin. Liam, on the other hand, appeared as fickle and unpredictable as a teenage girl. He never knows what he wants, and waiting on him to figure it out until the very end was frustrating.

Vivienne Lorret’s This Season’s Original Series just gets better and better. I’m totally addicted to this series and can’t wait for the next book! This Earl is on Fire is a captivatingly, deeply passionate, roller coaster of a read. This story is well deserving of 5 stars.

We are first met by the Pimm’s family who open their door to find a man slumped on their stoop. He’s been horribly beaten up and unconscious. The Pimm’s, with the help of their butler, drag him inside. Their daughter Adeline i Vivienne Lorret’s This Season’s Original Series just gets better and better. I’m totally addicted to this series and can’t wait for the next book! This Earl is on Fire is a captivatingly, deeply passionate, roller coaster of a read. This story is well deserving of 5 stars.

We are first met by the Pimm’s family who open their door to find a man slumped on their stoop. He’s been horribly beaten up and unconscious. The Pimm’s, with the help of their butler, drag him inside. Their daughter Adeline is taken by him and feels a deep sorrow for this poor soul at her door step. After bandaging him up and settling him into their guest room, Adeline visits with him and tries to help settle his pillow and after he awakens tries to give him a drink of water. It’s the sound of Adeline’s voice that gives him any relief from pain. Adeline soon learns that the gentleman in her families care is Liam Cavanaugh, the Earl of Wolford.

Once Liam learns that Adeline is a debutante he instantly pushes away from her, for he fears getting suckered into marrying her and he wants nothing to do with marriage. He’s avoided it successfully for many years now. Adeline, however, also does not have marriage on her mind. She and her family have come from the countryside and her parents would love for her to find her mate, however, Adeline just wants adventure. Her whole life she’s spent trapped in her bed due to her deformed shortened leg and she wants to experience what life has to offer.

However, she had no idea that she’d find adventure in the form of a dashingly handsome and scandalous Earl, nor did he bargain on finding this quiet country lady so captivating and begin to feel his heart drawn to her. Will Liam open up his heart to the beautiful Adeline? Will Adeline find not only adventure but love too?

Lorret’s writing is impeccable, she keeps the reader attached from the first page. The characters are well developed and well-rounded, I felt that I could relate to these characters and soon just fell in love with Adeline and Liam. The plot is filled with twists and turns and the scenery makes one feel as if they are really there. A truly remarkable read that is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. I highly recommend this book and this whole series! This whole series is on fire!
