Simple text clarifies what an entrepreneur is not, defines what an entrepreneur is, and outlines what it takes to be a successful one.

The concepts outlined are brought to life in the illustrations with a girl seeing a problem (messy dog), brainstorming a solution, revising when confronted with issues, and finally setting up a business (from washing machine through several reworkings to a robot dog washing contraption). There's just one sentence per page, but the book effectively conveys what it takes to be an entrepreneur. There are some more details in the back of the book. Very well put together in a way kids can easily grasp. Highly recommended to would-be entrepreneurs and STEM classes.

This nonfiction picture book introduces children to entrepreneurship through clear language and vibrant illustrations. It explains that being an entrepreneur means using creativity, perseverance, and passion to make a difference in the world. The book encourages children to think like innovators — to dream, take risks, and believe their ideas can help others.

This book is excellent for sparking curiosity about real-world problem-solving and creative thinking. It can be used in the classroom to teach growth mindset, goal-setting, and innovation. The message that “anyone can make an impact” empowers children to see themselves as capable of big ideas.

This is a nice and simple book that answers a question that many may have. The term or Word entrepreneur many times gets confused with business-person. I like that this one makes it crystal clear what an entrepreneur is.

I am reading a list of picture books this summer, looking for ones to include in my junior high classroom library.

What I am looking for in the text, with teen readers in mind, is some dialogue, sentence variety, topic-specific vocabulary, and an idea or issue that will prompt teen readers to do deeper inquiry into that idea. I'd like the idea to promote diversity, as in including diverse voices and perspectives with a historical, environmental, social, and even global context.

The artwork is also important. I am looking for diverse faces and settings with images that teen readers can "read."

The artwork and the book itself are beautiful. Little Pickle Press is environmentally active in its choice of materials. For the text, well, I wanted more narration; however, I do appreciate how the book was complicating common sense ideas of what an entrepreneur is. At some points, I found myself believing that I am an entrepreneur by "being brave and determined enough to create an innovative solution." Typically, when schools and media talk about being an entrepreneur (and on Shark tank) there is always an element of "making money," which this book minimizes for its young readers. However, by the end, I felt like I was reading a speech with a call-to-action closing, "So let's encourage each other to discover if we have what it takes to be an entrepreneur." So it has a didactic, informative quality about it that you would expect from the title relying on the art work to tell the story of "how."

What Does It Mean To Be An Entrepreneur? was such a fun book to read with my six year old son. The first thing I noticed was the type of wording the authors chose to use. I felt the words were perfect to ignite a discussion with your child and talk further about being an entrepreneur. The illustrations were vibrant and helped tell the story. Also, kudos for including ethnic diversity. This book has a very positive vibe for kids to reach for the stars and if mistakes happen, you can learn from them and try again. We need more books like this one for our kids!

I asked my son some questions about the book.

What does it mean to be an entrepreneur?

It's not impossible. If you can dream it, you can do it.

Did you like the pictures in this book?

Yes, I really like the robots!

If you were an entrepreneur, what kind of ideas would you have?

I would make robots to do things for people. A robot to clean your room. A robot to park your car. A robot dog to help blind people cross the street.

This is a wonderful book, unique because it takes an important but somewhat evolved concept and speaks to children in a way they'll understand yes without talking down. The illustrations are beautiful and tell a unique story within the art that kids will love following. This is a beautiful book about a topic that is near to my heart, with a light-hearted and friendly approach.
