I use this like a reference book, always coming back to it. It's packed with information that I couldn't absorb one time through. Sometimes books on qigong and tai chi are a little difficult to understand because they are based in a different culture and a different way of looking at the world. Jahnke does a good job of putting things in terms that Westerners can understand (he is originally from Cincinnati) without losing their essence.

"Understand Qi. Access Qi. Cultivate Qi. Master Qi. It is the essential fuel behind all intention and action. It is the awesome power of the Universe within you. . . . Qi is your edge in sports, business, relationships, and personal performance. Tai Chi and Qigong are powerful tools, profound yet simple, that will assist you in fulfilling your intentions, needs, goals--even your dreams!"
--Roger Jahnke, O.M.D.

Developed over millennia in Chinese monasteries, hospitals, and imperial courts, Tai Chi and Qigong (literally life-force and mastery) are profound yet simple methods for increasing vitality, longevity, and sexual potency; achieving and maintaining optimal health and inner peace; and healing both minor and major illnesses. Long kept a carefully guarded secret from the Chinese public, Tai Chi and Qigong have recently come into widespread use throughout the Far East. They are now a health and human performance enhancement breakthrough in the West as well--ancient power tools for self-improvement and a safe, gentle, and proven alternative approach to treating pain and disease.

In The Healing Promise of Qi, Roger Jahnke. O.M.D., internationally respected doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine and best-selling author of The Healer Within, clearly and simply explains Tai Chi and Qigong principles and practices. Rather than focus on one particular method or form, Dr. Jahnke distills the best and most important lessons, learned from Chinese teachers with whom he has studied. With the help of more than one hundred superbly rendered illustrations, Dr. Jahnke teaches you easy-to-learn techniques drawn from among twenty-five traditional and modern forms of Tai Chi and Qigong that he has mastered and taught to thousands of people in workshops, retreats, and health-care institutions throughout North America and China. And instead of offering a one-size-fits-all program, he provides guidelines for tailoring a self-healing and empowerment regimen to your unique goals, age, body type, personality, and medical condition.

Qi is the ancient Chinese concept for the source of all vitality, healing, and creativity. For those who are healthy and those who seek healing, Qi is the primary ingredient in the most profound medicine, which is produced for free, naturally within the human body. China's most traditional and powerful healing arts, Tai Chi and Qigong are the most direct route to accessing and mastering Qi. Now, this down-to-earth guide, makes the awesome power of Qi available to everyone through Tai Chi and Qigong.

this book is so in-depth and so inspiring for me on my journey to good health. it has given me the tools and the knowledge to keep on going with my Qigong practice. already even after only 2 weeks i can feel a difference from my daily practices. what i love is how it is available to anyone, you do not need any special clothes or equipment, just a willingness to believe the power of healing lies within your own miraculous body. my mantra has become 'may i let the qi flow, and may i let the suffering go'.

This is an absolutely magical book and the perfect introduction to anyone interested in exploring Qigong, Tai Chi or any energy-based healing. Roger Jahnke is an incredibly inspiring writer and teacher. As my longtime yoga practice gravitates toward subtle body and energy awareness, this book proves to be a wonderful, accessible resource. As a Qigong beginner, I started seeing how easy it is to get lost while navigating all the different styles, lineages, and "Who's Who" - but Jahnke has an amazing gift for keeping it all profoundly simple, and he manages to capture the essential philosophy and practices of qi cultivation in a very refreshing way. He also has some great YouTube videos.

I am going to mark this book as read, although I am still working through it. I got this book from the library, but then bought my own copy to annotate and underline. This is the kind of book that can be life changing. I am also watching Dr. Yang Jwing Ming's lectures about Qigong and taking tai chi. All three complement each other. I have had an interest in the Dao De Ching since I took a course in Eastern Literature in college many years ago and am finding the application to Qigong very powerful. Great book--it's the kind of book you'll say "let me go back and read that section about xxxx again." (and again...)

This is a very well rounded book, the author gives practical exercises to do to work with your "Qi," excellent reasons why you might want to do that and both eastern and western views on how this works. I recommend this book for beginners in Tai Chi and Qi Gong or for those looking deepen their experience with Qi.

One of the best books in the English language on the subject of Qigong and personal cultivation. Dr. Jahnke, OMD lucidly lays out a blueprint that can be followed for successful cultivation of the three treasures (Jing/body, Qi/heart-mind and Shen/spirit). He has a unique ability to distill vast amounts of information and accessibly present real working methods, while simultaneously not diminishing the essence of the material being presented. This book provides a solid foundation to explore the immense field of Qigong and provides a map that can allow any beginner or experienced practitioner to successfully walk the path of personal cultivation.

Read through p. 74. Author is knowledgeable and covers topic in depth. I was more interested in technique which appears to be mostly in pp. 75 - 215. The pages I read emphasized the ancient wisdom that integrated Qigong and Tai Chi to the infinite fundamental energy of the universe. Interesting, but way too wordy.

i like it so far... i'm a little intimidated by the amount of time it'll take to finish this guy at the pace i'm going. i'm taking a qi gong class soon, so i think that'll inspire me to diving into this book with more zest.

A great book. There is a fair bit of repetition but the authors enthusiasm is contagious.
