Shelves: romance, thriller

So this book was very hard to get into and I believe it was because of the intricate descriptions and long winded scenes...okay that is normal with a book like this, so I hung on and was glad that I did because the story in a whole was amazing.

The description intrigued me with it’s promise of action, adventure, intrigue and romance and since I’ve never read anything by the author I decided to give it a go and found that while I liked how I was immediately thrust into the action and enjoyed being along for the ride as Jesse worked to prove she wasn’t a traitor the romance element of the story was overshadowed by everything else going on in the story.

I liked Jesse from the start. She’s a badass and kickass recon specialis ***3.5 Stars***

I liked Jesse from the start. She’s a badass and kickass recon specialist, highly intelligent if not a bit impetuous, and highly motivated to clear her name and bring down the man who labeled her a traitor. While it may seem that she is doing all of this for herself, the real reason is to protect her sister and ensure her well being. Cole is something of an enigma for the mass majority of the story. He is obviously a highly trained operative, but the question of who’s side he truly is on is always floating around him. But regardless of his motives, he does do quite a few things that paint him as a good guy no matter where his loyalties lay.

With all that was going on in the story and the constant trust issues between Jesse and Cole , the romance side of things just never manifested itself enough to really make an impact on me. I could see why they’d be attracted to each other based on the fact that they are both operatives and regardless of the situation that threw them together had a strong moral code, but since they never truly got to know each other outside of information they got off of each other files I never felt that there was a deep enough connection to push them out of the physical attraction realm to a steady relationship.

Though the romance was iffy for me the rest of the story had me on the edge of my seat. From the very start you are thrust into the thick of things with Jesse and that anxious feeling never dissipates, even when things slow down a bit. There was always a situation where things could go sideways or someone wasn’t all that they appeared to be. The action scenes were quite descriptive and though the twists and turns were numerous, there were well done and thought out so that at the end they were tied up nicely.

The Bottom Line: Though the romance between the characters didn’t get my temperature rising, the rest of the story definitely held my attention until the very end.

Holy mother of all 71 chapters. This book was lengthy as hell and I am sure that T.C. could have and should have stopped it somewhere after 30 chapters and started the sequel to this. It was a bit much to handle all at once and I was definitely confused as the chapters went by. I definitely had to go back and re-read every word because I wouldn't remember what the hell was going on.

3 stars! I couldn’t really get into this book and I tried really hard.

This book was definitely action packed and fun. But for some reason I just couldn’t connect to the story or the characters. Not the author's fault, I just couldn’t get into it. I think mostly because it’s not my genre. I loved all the action though that made the book exciting for sure.

What an adventure! This book is jam packed with action, suspense, mystery and a little thread of sexual attraction. Just when you think you know who did it...BAM...plot twist! The characters are fantastic and every single one has a significant role in the story. I would have liked an epilogue because I feel like after everything we went through in the story, I needed a clearer picture of what actually happens to Jesse and Cole and not just what I think happens. I didn't manage to finish this book. I reached the 35% mark, but I couldn't go further and I found myself skipping some parts. I couldn't focus on this book for more than 5 minutes. The only reason I am saying this is because I got a copy of the book in exchange for a review and I have to say why I couldn't write one. Had a really hard time getting in to this book. I would read for five minutes and put it down again. It just didn't hold my interest. I didn't like the characters. There was very little in the romance department. The heroine had trust issues and that was referenced repeatedly throughout the book. There was plenty of action, even if it was a bit disjointed. 3.5 Stars Jesse is an intelligence specialist and is on a mission to clear her name and bring down the man responsible. Cole is also a highly trained operative when the two meet. The book was slow to start for me and difficult to find it interesting.
