Such a delightful read! According to a course in classic children’s literature by Hillsdale College, Potter’s use of everyday work and tasks in her storytelling is really beneficial for children and the development of their imaginations. We loved these stories and will revisit them again and again.

Today was a snow day and I thought it would be a fine time to sit down and read this book. I was inspired to read these when I watched the movie about Beatrix Potter’s life.

This collection included many watercolor illustrations for the stories which were absolutely beautiful. The stories themselves were wonderful as well.

I didn't know all these stories as a kid but I'm sure I would've liked them all. The ones I enjoyed hearing were the ones I knew as a kid from books and VHS. The tale of peter rabbit of course. Benjamin bunny and the floppsy bunnies. Also mrs Tittlemouse.

There is much to enjoy in Beatrix Potter's stories. The lovable characters with traits directly related to their namesake creatures. The beautiful illustrations. The uniquely told stories. The high level of vocabulary in a children's work. The names of the characters themselves. What's not to like with characters named Jemima Puddle-Duck and Pigling Bland?

Over the course of a year, my daughter and I read the stories together. I recommend that each family read the stories at least once. Hearing my little one marvel at Potter's way of telling delightful stories with many animal friends was wonderful.

As an aside, reading this book made watching the movie "Miss Potter" more enjoyable also. As the illustrations were displayed, I found myself identifing the character and reliving a small part of the story they were in. It was great fun.

The stories are hit and miss, some are adorable, others not so much but all of the illustrations are perfection.

This was a read-aloud for my 5 year old. It took A LONG TIME to read every little story. I've given up writing the exact dates of when I finished books on Goodreads because I just come on here and update every once in a while. In any case, LOTS of little stories to keep you busy.

You can easily tell why some of her stories are so classic and endearing while others have been forgotten. A couple of them included so many words and phrases that aren't part of our vocabulary anymore - separated by both time and space - that I didn't really understand the details of the story so well. Also, I think her humor sometimes gets lost in translation - from her culture/place/time to my culture/place/time so I feel like I'm missing something. I know my 5 year old definitely didn't get much of the humor at all. I'm not sure if the little British kids back in the day understood this humor or if it was always meant for the adults, but we missed a lot of it regardless.

Still, those classic stories we all love certainly deserve to be loved! I hope they never fall out of fashion.

384 pages. What a great collection of tales! I had read a few over the years, but after reading Beatrix Potter’s biography I wanted to read all of her collection. I love her illustrations and fun adventures of so many little animals. They act like people in their talking, walking, activities and dressing in clothing. The vocabulary is over 100 years old so you might need to look up some words in a dictionary or even google the concepts to really understand the scenes she is describing, as well as the customs of the time. I was fascinated by all the unique personalities she created and interesting plots. I think any child from ages 4 - 10 would enjoy reading or listening to the tales. Highly recommended for elementary kids.
Extra note:This is actually one large book and you might consider buying a collection of individual books if a youngster is going to read them. This particular collection would be best used by an adult reading to kids since it so large and heavy.

These stories are classic for a reason. I am so impressed by how quickly you are steeped into the worlds of these creatures. Ms. Rabbit's herb garden and Tom Kitten's waistcoat, along with other normal things owned and done by humans at the time, make these animals seem rooted in the countryside of England. There are a vast number of illustrations for each story, both in color and sketch, that are beautiful. I also did like using this complied collection. We were very eager to pick up Ms. Potter every day and look forward to returning to her.

I'm not sure how I made it through childhood without reading Beatrix Potter, but I did. I loved reading this book with my boys, 7 and 9. We all enjoyed the stories, the illustrations, and the conversations we had following our reading. If you've not yet enjoyed the works of Beatrix Potter, I highly recommend this collection.

Who doesn't love Beatrix Potter???
From Jemima to Benjamin to the Tailor, these stories are beloved for a reason. The 1994 Import edition has her original illustrations, and even some lesser-known tales. Highly recommended for any house with children...or grandchildren...or neighbor children...
