Revival

Rate this book
The last couple of months have been nothing but survival.
Literally.
If you were to pull out Webster and find the definition, I’m spot on.
Remaining alive.
Sustaining myself.
Pulling through.
Getting through.
Holding on.
Making it.
Keeping body and soul together.
Oh well, maybe not that last part, as I lost my soul exactly at the same time when she left me when I let her go.
So, yeah I’m soulless, an empty corpse walking around, drinking whatever is offered to drink and fucking whatever is around to fuck.
I know what you will say, and trust me, I know what you are thinking right now. What a piece of shit, soft hearted, worthless motherfucker I am. And you are totally right, I’m not even going to argue with you on that subject. I’m nothing.
Nothing without her.
I’m totally aware that everything I did since New Years Eve is a calculated path of destruction.
The destruction that is impossible to escape.
The destruction that I DON’T want to escape.
The destruction that is something I devour, something I seek, something that gives me a peace of my fucked up mind.
Yes, I’m that deep into that shit.
Grief.
Is a bitch.

Revival is a sequel to L.o.v.e- although it can be read as a standalone.

In between memories of the hero Dylan having sex with his half sister Mia,his guilt over her subsequent death, his obsessive love for her that spans almost half of the novel after his one night stand with the heroine so long ago & his justification for his incestuous actions I just lost the plot.Add to the mix him currently sexing it up with the h co worker in this a second chance romance & her having to hear about how good he was in bed & the orgasms he gave her was bizarre.

Than throw in all the other random women he is getting a spontaneous hard on for because they are either giving him a hand job or they are yes so hot & he is oh so lonely because the h & him have that noxious push & pull thing going on makes this one exhausting read.

The words flowed like water until they becoming a deluge of monotony. I'm sure others will love this book & despite my fondness for man whores this one was just too unapologetic to merit a badge of redeemable honor.

I mean what hero thinks that his daughter with the heroine resembles the sister no make that the half sister he fucked & gets all tingly inside.

"You have no idea how fucking' happy I am knowing that I have a daughter and that she looks just like me. Although I swear to God her eyes are shaped exactly like yours even though they are the same grey color as mine."

"Look at that Dylan, we have the same eyes and we have the same hole in the chin.
Yes.
And you have eyes shaped exactly like your aunt Mia. This I never said out loud."

I'm certainly twisted enough to entertain incest in certain books but this one had me twisting in the wind.

*Genetic sexual attraction (GSA) is sexual attraction between close relatives, such as siblings or half-siblings, a parent and offspring, or first and second cousins, who first meet as adults*

*Accidental incest is incest that is committed by two partners who do not know they are biologically related. It can occur when two people who are unaware of their biological relationship become sexually intimate*

Another book where the hero fucks his way through the entire female population during their separation. How utterly unoriginal. Barf.

Oh and to top it all off he has an incestuous relationship with his half sister and spends 50+% of the book obsessing over her after she dies and how much he loved her. He had dumped the heroine after a one night stand and was in love with his half sister.

I've read quite a few interesting and concerning things about this book and I have to say that it wasn't as bad as some of the reviews make it to be.

Sure, I was not a big fan of the male protagonist and his antics, not to mention, him having more than a brotherly relationship in the past with his own sister (eww!)...

But, over all... it was an okay story.

Manwhore
Trigger alert
Grief
Guilt
Secrets

This book was an amaze balls of emotional roller coaster. I skipped #1 of this series only read the blurb as #2 could be read as a standalone and I always aim for HEA'ers. I am a sucker for Happily ever afters. Therefore I did not know who Mia was.I guess this was good as I didn't want to be invested in a character and then ask 'why oh why?' Yes, yes grieving Dylan goes on about Mia for most of the book. Sickening, right? annoying too, maybe. But understand he is grieving the love of his life.At an unexpected life changing tragedy. So yes, the author did well dragging the grief and I understood it. Memories never fade, they stay with you embedded in your heart even though you move on with life. Life goes on, choose your path to live for the past or in the moment. It wasn't just a grief of 'wham bam' grieving done. His love for Mia was incorporated all throughout the book. But slowly it eased so it didn't fully consume him because he has two amazing people worth living for giving them his all. As I've said we never forget those good memories. They remain in our hearts , always.

I understood every aspect but to find out they we're related was a bit of the 'wtfery', but true we are only humans after all and that was a bit 'OMG' put the book down moment 'close that f*&^% book, right at this instance, you crazy woman', but I never. This is usually a very hard limit for me, any incestuous hanky panky. Being aware they didn't really know in book #1, until I guess was too late. I gave it a chance and boy was it worth it.

I could not, put this book down.I am a fast reader and I would definitely re-read this again in the future. Him being a manwhore didn't even bother me.It usually does. But when you connect with characters you embrace every stupidity or whatever. Consumed by grief and guilt we all have different vices and his was just manwhoring around.

Nina was perfect and I understood why she kept everything a secret and why she had to protect herself and her daughter. Ellie was the sweetest. I understood why she was pulling and pushing Dylan. I did guess what the other secret was before it was revealed. But when you have been in that situation, it is never easy to just simply bounce around over the rainbow to greener pastures. It has stained her being, consuming her fantasy of a HEA. I won't really say much about it.

She had so many opportunity to reveal her daughter. But what was the fun in that. Yes, yes just tell him already. But she's had it tough. The choices she's made. She was doing what every parent would to protect her daughter. What if..ifs, I hate what ifs. He is constantly leaving when things doesn't go his way. But Nina, never again would she allow someone into their life for him to leave, again.

Gah, my review is just weak right now.I'm tired, cold and hungry. I might have to redo this review to do it's justice without telling the story. That's for you other readers to do, read their story, their journey to be whole and how they got HEA. Give this book a chance.

I fully whole heartedly recommend it. And I am hard to please. A 5star rating even harder for me to give. But this deserved it.

Dear author keep doing what you do and I'm looking forward to more reads from you.

Wow! This book hits many nerves. It can take you out of your comfort zone but then turns around and makes the situation something that you can actually understand even though you wouldn't want to be there personally. It goes from one man's perception of the love of his life and soul mate and the death and complete destruction of his heart and soul as he tries to come to terms with her death and goes through the motions of grief without actually allowing him to grieve adequately. When he meets Nina, he can't understand the connection they have. He wants to fight, yet he wants to drown and his grief. But after spending some time with Nina, he realizes that they have seen each other before. Though a lot of time has passed, he believes that she doesn't remember. He works to get her to remember him and struggles through all of his crap to just drag himself through the surface of his overwhelming pain.

Nina has secret. She's spent her whole life working two jobs just to try to better her life and the life of her daughter. She works so much that she doesn't even get to watch her daughter grow up. She has to allow her grandmother to raise her just so she can try to make enough money to survive. She has dreams of someday getting to the point to where she can escape the crappy hand she's been dealt and rise above her situation. Add to her stress is the fear she has from a past relationship. All of this makes a possible relationship seem impossible. Will they get passed the past to make a future with each other? That's a question you'll only learn by picking up this novel that will suck you in and make you spend every minute just to see what will happen next. Well written, great plot, no complaints whatsoever.

“Golden like one of a kind, the kind you know you will never find, but you search for anyways.”

I read the first novel, L.o.v.e., back in December and the ending left me feeling somewhat gutted and hollow. This sequel has definitely filled the empty space and it’s a fantastic read!

Dylan is just surviving, not really living, crippled by his grief and his guilt. He escapes to New Orleans – a place he hasn’t been in six years.

Nina works two jobs, seven days a week, to keep a roof over her little girl’s head and food on the table. The only time she lets the real world go is when she’s up on stage singing her heart out.

Dylan doesn’t recognise Nina, at first, but a photo on the bar wall jogs his memory. Nina pretends that she doesn’t recognise him and hopes that he doesn’t remember. However, once he does, all bets are off and he’s pursues her in earnest. She keeps fobbing him off and fights her attraction to him.

They have a history. He is coming to terms with his grief. She has a secret or two.

Dylan is such a broken man. I really felt for him and I so wanted him to have his happy ending. It was wonderful to see him focus on something to make his life better and meaningful. Nina’s stubbornness frustrated me at times but her fears kept her closed off. They had a great connection and fab chemistry. I loved Dylan’s relationship with Nina’s daughter, Ellie. There were some heart-wrenching scenes and some really hot ones. This was a very satisfying, fulfilling story! Loved the ending!

This was my first time reading anything by Kate Vine and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this great story. Kate Vine has given us a story that sucks you in and will keep you there from start to finish, and will leave you wanting more from this author. Revival will have you on an roller coaster ride of emotions. The guilt that poor Dylan was going through will pull at your heart the grief and the sadness will make you hurt for him. The characters were strong ,caring, and everything in the story was amazing. This story is about second chance romance,it's about to people who have personal problems and who has horrible secret that in time will bring them together. This is Dylan's and Nina's sweet story. Dylan's has had a terrible year and he's struggling ,because he's dealing with his soul mate been gone. The person that was special to him ,but what he's gone through has really changed him,all he's doing now is boozing it up and with different woman. He 's just existing and it seems like everyone knows it and even he does. But then there's Nina who's a fighter, has two jobs and is very determine do the very best she can for her loved ones ,even if she has no spare time. But then see happens to see a familiar face from her past ,but all she needs to do is stay away from him. She totally knows that the secret that she knows will ever be shared ,because she needs to hate him. I could go on and tell you more about this sweet story , but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this sweet story, you won't be disappointed.

A twisted, intense story of secrets, lies and betrayal. The story of Dylan and Nina captured my attention, as the plot is full of interesting sick secrets and mysteries plaguing both of them. When Dylan returns to New Orleans for some R and R, following tragic events and discoveries, he meets Nina and realizes that he had met her 6 years prior. After he approaches her, Nina tries to ignore his advances as she never forgot him, including how badly it ended when he left and never said goodbye. As much as they are attracted to each other, they both gave so much baggage that their struggle coming clean and revealing their secrets gave me whiplash with all the going back and forth between them. I can't say this is a story of second chances as opposed to new beginnings as these two characters are both so broken and insecure they believe they're unworthy of love and happiness!
What I loved and appreciated about this read was how they brutally struggled to come clean and make amends for the wrongs they did.

***** 5 golden stars *****
Dylan is running away from something awful, something devastating - something so painful he can't breathe or even worse don't want to...
Until she enters his life again- a ghost from his past, one that holds some pretty big secret that will change everything.

***************************************************************************

Revival is a second chance romance about two people with their own personal problems and one hell of a secret that connects them together.

This is my first Kate Vine's book, I love her writing, and I felt Dylan's pain as my own.
Although Dylan was an ass at first I fall for him easily underneath his shell he is a good guy with softness heart.

Nina is tough, she is stronger then most can be, she has overcome a lot and searching for a good future.

Highly recommended but prepare a tissue before you dive in…

Ok so, I read L.O.V.E and I am so glad that I received an ARC of Revival. We get to see how Dylan is doing after what he went through. Dylan...is an asshole. Plain and simple, but through out this book, we see a different side to him. He still has his jerk moments but no one is perfect. Nina...dear sweet but not so sweet Nina. She is stubborn and sweet all at once. She is surviving her own problems and kind of puts herself on the back burner. Until he comes along and then she just can't help herself. The banter between these two is great. They fight, they flirt, and they down right get dirty. But problems arise and they have to face them. Sometimes I wanted to smack them both but, I'm happy that I got to see Dylan grow and be the person he was meant to be. And can I just say that I love an all knowing, all seeing grandma. And Austin needs his own book, yes please. He has a small but crucial role in the book, but I want to know more about him!

Just when you think no not another man leaving town to forget about the tragedy of his life book...you get Revival. This book was fabulously written and has so many twists and turns. Yes, Dylan is dark, had a tragedy that makes him up and leave town to go back to a place where he was felt settled and he plans on drinking until he forgets. He meets Nina, a woman he knew years ago but both don't realize who the other at first. Very well written, the characters are very real and not at all perfect. There are some emotions some may not like in a romance book but it felt real to me and the author did a brilliant job of putting the whole story together in the end.

My review is based on the story only. I loved this book. Fantastic story. However, there were so many editing issues that it really took away from the book.

Story line - 5 stars
Editing - 2 stars

If that does not bother you then this was a must read. I edit for a living so it really, really bothered me.

The incest plot didn’t bother me...I know that sounds wrong, but it was complicated and a past plot for this book. I just never liked any of the h’s in Dylan’s life. And frankly, in the end, I don’t think I liked him much either :/

Dylan is a broken man. The love of his life is gone and he can’t cope. Using alcohol and women to escape the pain, he becomes a shadow of the man he used to be. Dylan decides to run from his life by going to New Orleans for a two week period. He’s been there before.

Nina is a single mom with two jobs trying to make ends meet. One night at the bar she sees a familiar face. She pretends not to know who he is, but Nina remembers the heartless jerk all too well. When old feelings start to surface, Nina has to keep her emotions in check. She doesn’t want to get hurt again. Dylan has other ideas. Secrets and lies on both sides threaten this new relationship and may end it before it even begins.

Wow what a great story. I felt horrible for Dylan in the beginning. He went through so much heartache with his first wife. The author captured that emotion really well and was able to convey the hopelessness that the character felt. Nina was also a strong character. Though she was desperately in love with Dylan even after their years apart, she stood her ground when he was being an idiot. I loved his nickname for Nina, because it fit her personality. My only critique would be that the ending dragged on a bit. There was a point in the story where the HEA could have worked, but the author chose to add another obstacle. I really like it when authors put epilogues at the end of the book and I’m glad I got to see the next chapter in their lives.

Diva's review. I was given an ARC for an honest review and OMG Kate Vine did a wonderful follow up to L.O.V.E.!!!! Another emotional roller coaster of a ride as your are grabbed from the first page until the last. I've been waiting to find out what was going to happen to Dylan. The weight of the world is on his shoulders after losing the love of his life in L.O.V.E. Dylan goes back to his favorite get away of New Orleans. All he's done since Mia's death is sink into the darkness by drinking and meaningless sex but he see's Mia's face every time. A barmaid Nina beautiful eyes catch his and they look familiar at first he can't remember why they look so familiar then he remembers her after he sees a picture on the bar wall. Nina recognizes his voice...that voice that send shivers down her spine which sparks love and hate..... Will she let him back in....She's been struggling the last six years...

There are secrets, twists and turns that you don't see coming. It was a GREAT book and can't wait for her next book. You can read it as a stand along but I don't suggest that. You need to read Kate's premier book L.O.V.E. so you can read Mia and Dylan's story which will having you crying so make sure you get your tissues. Your emotions will be all over the place just as they are in this book.

Revival by Kate Vine.

Reviewed by Patricia

After reading Ms Vine's first book in this series, L.O.V.E. I was in turmoil and my emotions were all over the place!I I have never before felt so much emotional pain and sadness when finishing a book.

Thinking that that was the end of the story, I was so amazingly pleased to find that there was a sequel, an extension to this sad journey which Dylan's life had taking him on.

The sense of an immortal love that was an essential part of Dylan's make up and reason for questioning his right to go on living after the devastation of losing Mia; is felt throughout this entire book. Will he be able to let time heal his wounds, can he find love again ? Will Nina, a girl that he knew years ago, make him, or break him further? Getting to know her all over again means that his utter devastation is lessened and yet exacerbated by his guilt at the feelings he has for her.

This is another amazingly emotional and yet well grounded story from Kate Vine and it will hold your attention for the entire read.

This was my first read by Kate Vine, and although it technically follows another series, it works very well as a stand-alone.
This book takes place in New Orleans, a fun town, unless you happen to live there, trying to raise a child by yourself. Kate Vine does an amazing job of creating a character you can sympathize with. Nina is a strong willed mother who would literally do anything for her daughter - the only thing in the world that matters to her.
It was so easy to get lost in this book. After Dylan shows up in town, you are literally strung along until the end. Hoping with the turn of every page that they will end up together - But it seems that anything that can go wrong, does. Luckily, Nina has a supportive group looking out for her.

This is one of those books that make you feel good about life, and love, again. It's the kind of book to read as a pick-me-up. You may shed a few tears, or throw a few angry punches at your pillow along the way, but it's well worth it.

If this is your first book by Kate Vine, take a chance on her, Revival wont disappoint!

Dylan is struggling. He's had a bad year. Been without his soul mate, the one person that meant so much to him, changes him completely. Drowning himself in women and booze, he's just existing. He can't go on like this, he knows it, everyone knows it.

Nina is fighting. Working two jobs with no spare time, she's determined to do her best for her loved ones. When she sees a familiar face from her past, she's even more determined to stay away from him. She knows it can't end well. She's keeping secrets that she has no intention of sharing......Ever.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved Dylan from LOVE (it isn't necessary to read this first) and it broke my heart to see him still struggling in Revival. Although saying that there were still times I wanted to slap him. Nina is a really likeable character. She's not had the best few years but you can't knock her for trying.

A really good, enjoyable romance with characters you'll love.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Revival by Kate Vine has a twist that catches many readers by surprise. It is unique and emotionally challenging at times, holds the reader’s attention and has a lovely writing style.

Main characters are well developed. I have difficulty understanding Dylan’s actions/choices at times. Dylan is damaged and unsure if he’s willing to fight through his pain or just wallow in it. Nina is a strong, struggling single mom who remembers all too well who her daughter’s biological father is.

I am rating Revival by Kate Vine 4 stars. The way this book could have been improved in my personal opinion would be to strengthen the connection between Dylan and Nina, it felt slightly like Dylan was only with her because Mia was no longer an available option. Making Nina his second choice not his soul mate and I want the soul mate connection in the end.

Revival was an interesting read. It touches on some things that I haven't read in a story before. It's told in the dual POVs of Dylan and Nina. Dylan is drinking away his grief away. He has lost Mia. He believes Mia was his soulmate and her death has hit him hard. There is a little twist in Dylan's and Mia's relationship which was a little weird. No matter what his relationship with Mia was, he's still hurting. He has a past with Nina but at first he doesn't recognize her. Nina is a hard worker. She works multiple jobs. Nina has a a little girl. There's a lot layers to Nina. These two both have many hidden things that complicate things. Overall it was a great story that had many surprises.

WOW! What a rollercoaster ride! Kate writes a story that puts you through all the painful emotions and struggles one feels after losing a love one. Trying to find it in him to keep breathing, Dylan returns to a place he had run to six years prior after another bad time in his life. Once there everything starts to become golden again with a added sparkle. Revival is a beautiful story of the love of family, the love of ones lost and the surprises love brings. Don't miss reading this book it touches your heart in so many places and teaches you there is a light after the dark but everyone needs time to get through to it. I would definitely read L.O.V.E. first to get a better understanding of Dylan and his life.

Revival was written as a standalone and it can still be read as a standalone BUT, ( yep, there is always a but, right?) there is some background from L.o.v.e that some people might find offensive. Yes, they are triggers, yes, there are some taboo subjects and a hero that is a total ass till he finally gets some senses knock into him. So if you are looking for an easy breezy read you won't find it in here. yeah, I know I'm doing an anti campaign right now but I just want you to save your wonderful readers time if you not in the mood to forget about what's right and what's wrong for a few hours. xoxo Kate

This book was very repetitive. I found myself having to re read whole paragraphs because of the way it was either written or edited. I found myself liking the characters though. It just didn't make up for having to read the same information over and over again. I got this book as a gift in paperback form. If I'd have purchased this with my own money I'd have wanted my money back and gladly sent the book back without finishing it.
The author has creative ideas just didn't succeed at getting them on the page without it becoming redundant and boring.
I gave it two stars because of the character formation and the cleaver ideas.

This was a disaster!! I just tried to get into it and I was struggling!! There are so many grammatical and spelling errors. The story line didn't flow and it had so much potential!! It wasn't written well at all and honestly I'm glad it was on kindle unlimited because I would have been pissed paying for this book.
