Charm: An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat by Leyla Atke is a cute beginner reader book about a little cat that is found and the owner's love for this little kitten. In the back there is picture of the cat too. A cute story with lots of lessons put in without pushing the issues. Great job.

As a cat lover and cat-mom I was thrilled to find this book.

Leyla Atke's autobiographical story about her relationship with a cat appears to tell a simple story but it is really so much more... `Charm: An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat' demonstrates that we need to be alert for new influences to experience the best in life.

Leyla spots `Charm' the black kitten as she is on her way to the hairdresser. She planned the event well and called the salon so she would not have to wait and lose time.

This is a story of the author forming a profound bond with a stranded kitten, whom she named "Charm." All was going well but the cat's natural curiosity took over and he would eagerly explore the neighborhood. One day Charm was clearly missing so the author went looking for him. The cat was nowhere to be found.

What happened next?

Well, you need to read the story. You will discover the author's profound thoughts on life and death, some incredible twists and turns to the story and yes, a happy endi

“Charm” is a charming story for children and adults alike.

At 40 pages, Charm could be considered a long story or a short book. It’s based on a true story that the author experienced with a cat she discovered in the street and rescued just as it was about to be killed by the traffic. She takes the cat home, cleans it up, takes care of it, and names it Charm. Unfortunately, much later on, Charm gets loose and doesn’t return. The narrator finds his body later on, and figured out he died on Septembe

I was asked to read this story and found it to be touching, heartfelt with a magical quality.

It is a deceptively simple tale and yet has layers of meaning and deals with issues such as death, love, loss, faith and relationships; especially a close bond with a mysterious cat.

This short story could be helpful for younger children to understand death.

Who can resist a delightful story about cats? Charm (An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat) written and illustrated by the talented Leyla Atke has it all–it’s a tale about love, loss, and continuing on, despite the pain of the loss that exists when one’s beloved pet dies and leaves an empty, cat-shaped hole in one’s heart. How can such an abyss be filled? And, how did the feelings toward the handsome black cat, which the narrator calls Charm, develop in the first place?

In Charm, the author weav

I was lucky enough to get a review copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

Charm, by Leyla Atke, is about a little kitten she finds while she is on a break one day. She worries for its safety and subsequently adopts it. Charm, as he is named, is smart and confident. He likes eating egg yolks and adventuring across the street onto the grounds of the factory. One day, Charm is lost. Eventually the author is blessed when Charm returns to her. A Cat and a Miracle

The narrator of this children's story finds a cat on the street in danger of being killed by passing traffic. She gives it a home and names it Charm. Sadly one day, the cat, gets out of its new home and fails to return. Eventually, Charm’s body is found. With great sadness, the narrator buries the cat in her backyard.

Many people have grieved the death of pets but what makes Atke’s story different is that fate provides the narrator with an opportunity to rescue another cat, one

Charm – a Charming Story!

This charming award-winning story of a little black cat named Charm is an actual narrative of how the author “found” Charm (seemingly dropped from the sky) and then “lost” him when he disappeared over a fence into a scrapyard and was eventually found dead. This hauntingly poignant story continues with the author’s remorse and sadness over the loss of her beloved Charm, when she finds another small black kitten – or rather the kitten finds her - on the one year anniversar

A charming black cat book

What a charming book about a charming black cat. It’s not only for children, it’s for everyone who likes, no loves cats. I was smiling but I was crying as well, when...well you have to get the book and read it.

When the author found that little bundle of black joy, she was delighted and bonded with him and called him Charm. All went well. The only thing was, cats are natural curious.

From the author: “Charm is full of live, impulsive, curious and aggressive. When Charm is

I loved this book! What a cute story about a magical kitten. I enjoyed reading about the black kitten, Charm, and how he was found. I can understand how the owner in the book came to love Charm. I can definitely relate to the kitten becoming family and all that happened in the story. I have several cats and kittens, and there are some special favorite, a orange striped Speedy quickly stole my heart when he was born in the midst of five others. A Must read for cat lovers. It's a true story of compassion and companionship. Like you love your own child, it is truly possible to love your pet in the same way. I've personally never owned a pet in my life but reading Leyla's feeling, I can totally relate that you do get attached to your pets. Its especially for those who keep cats as pets.

Sometimes a certain animal is meant to be with a certain person; that definitely seems to be the case in this cute and touching story. The tale is full of contrasts, one could even say contradictions, but that's part of the reason that I loved it so much —there are some interesting conclusions that one can draw from such contrasts. For example, no one in the story has a name other than simply father, mother, brother or aunt. Similarly, the author is known only as "I". The only beings that do hav ...more

CHARM—a love story of a timeless bond

CHARM, by Leyla Atke, is a remarkable true story, with lovely illustrations, about a girl and the cat she rescues from certain demise. An enthralling tale of the deep bond of love that may form between a pet and their human caregiver. The story takes a heart-rending turn as the beloved cat disappears, and the owner eventually finds its remains. At this point the story is graphic, yet real and authenti

As I read "Charm: An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat," I was touched by Leyla's love for this little rescued kitten. Leyla told the story of her beloved pet with such compassion, caring, love, and devotion that my heart was truly touched.
I think this story would aid in helping children and adults alike to realize the bond that is exchanged through the love of a pet. I have often wondered if animals that we are kindred spirits with come back to us in the form of another pet. I think they do.

A little stray black cat, all alone. A caring, thoughtful person willing to take it in and care for it. But it’s difficult to keep an outdoor cat inside.

Charm was determined to go outside, but would always return. One day Charm did not return and Leyla was a bit concerned. After a few days, the concern increased. Without giving away the ending, Leyla tells a story for both children and adults alike.

A quick read, easy for children to sit through, but insightful for adults as well.

Charm is a simple yet profoundly moving book about a foundling, a little black cat who the author names Charm. His energy field, loving and elegant nature and very presence brings joy and comfort, which dissipates when he mysteriously disappears. This is a story of love, loss and love rediscovered. My husband is a Veterinarian and he speaks of the chasms of love and loss around our furry friends.

Lelya Atke enjoys status as an award-winning author for her debut tale, Charm: An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat,” and for good reason. Opening with the events of a typical day, Atke tells of her discovery of a little kitten, dirty, neglected, smelling of kerosene, and lost amidst the rush of cars on a freeway. Initially, she considers leaving the kitten, then reconsiders. She rescues it, brings it home and cleans it up. Shortly thereafter, she dubs the kitten—which steals her heart—“Charm. ...more

A incredible true story about a little black kitten found miraculously unharmed amid a busy street--the first time. The narrator of the story, Leyla, rescues the kitten which she decides to call Charm and quickly grows attached. Sadly, one day Charm goes missing, and the result is not so favorable--or so we think. Leyla devastatingly discovers what she believes to be Charm's body--until another black kitten identical to the Charm Leyla had found years before on the street shows up at her window- ...more

This is an autobiographical story of the author and some very special feline friends. As a cat mom myself, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read and review this story.

Emotionally, this story is a bit of a roller-coaster. It goes from heartwarming to heartbreaking and back to heartwarming. It also leaves you wondering about things like fate, destiny and reincarnation.

The great thing about this little book is that it is really for any age group. Adults can read it to small children, and o

Charm (An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat) is truly a wonderful and charming story. Based on a real experience the author had when she found a stray kitten in trouble, the story is emotional, insightful, and profound. The story struck a chord with me about why and when pets leave us, and how we find pets or they find us. I thoroughly enjoyed Charm and it is one of those stories that will linger in the reader’s mind. I highly recommend this book for young and old alike—it really is a magical ...more

I love this story for it's message about the power of love and devotion, and for the cultural insights of a place I'd love to visit. (maybe I got that because I know the author, award-winning Leyla Atke, is from Denmark--because it's subtle, but there) Our animal friends imprint our character. And we all know cats have multiple lives; right? Well, Charm is no exception, and he's determined. I think it's fair to say smaller children may be put off by the cat's app

This is a good read for pet lovers out there. People who do not own pets don't know how crushed we become when a pet leaves us. We treat a pet as family and our hearts break when it passes on. This book is full of heart and kindness and hope.

I read this to my little boy the other night and he loved it. Last night, I read it to him again, never mind if he was already so sleepy. When he woke up this morning, he saw one of the kittens that our cat just gave birth to, one was really grey and he sai
Leyla Atke has written a beautiful, CHARMing tribute to a tiny black cat that was miraculously introduced into the author's life. Each providing love and warmth, a bond is formed between writer and a cat she names Charm, that is short lived and unfairly ended. Missing and mourning her beloved Charm, a tiny black miracle appears in a most familiar place. Coincidence? A blessed second chance to make things right? However the reader perceives the message, it's a story that can be loved by all ages ...more

⭐️I received a free copy of Leyla's book in exchange for an honest review. ⭐️

I had chills while reading this story because I expirenced something similar with my cat, Mojo. I understand exactly how Leyla felt - the pain of loss and the bond you feel even after your loved one is gone in the physical sense. I love this stories message & I think it's important for children to learn that we are always connected to the ones we love and that wonderful things are always possible.

A gifted copy was given in exchange for an honest review.
A beautiful short story about a little black kitten and the person who rescued him. It is a real story and the rescuer is the author herself.
Leyla told us her experience with Charm, how she rescued him from being run over by cars and how he brought love and joy to Leyla's life. It is well-written and the drawings are very beautiful.
If you like animals, especially cats, and have children, this is the story to read together.

It is a touching story and I felt for the author having lost several beloved pets over the years. It makes me happy that another Charm found a good home with lots of love.
