I did not read this, it is a book of photographs, unless I have chosen the wrong title. Beautiful photos of paintings.

This is a beautiful book with many color photos of many different impressionist artists' paintings. The author has written a considerable amount too, though I've not digested the text of this work and I'm unable to review that part. The subject matter and number of artists' covered is quite broad so the write-ups can't go into much depth, but this book is more than captions.

Even without the words, this stands up as a good, colorful collection of paintings.

Beautiful plates and interesting descriptions of the artist's process and feelings as they created the works.
Morally repugnant though. The Red Army had their own version of the Monuments Men, but rather than make a good faith effort to return the work to its original owner, when that meant to an allied country, their rationale was "We've suffered - we deserve this!" Everything they found, they kept.
Good to see that the kleptocratic traditions are continuing to this day!

Very interesting as history and art history with plenty of beautiful npictures. The "story" was news to me although I was aware of the peregrinations of famous art during and after WW2.
