Safe.

It’s a liar’s word. No one is ever truly safe.

Daniello still haunted me—in my bed, in my dreams, in a ridiculous notion of a future we would never have.

I was drawn to darkness, and he was the abyss.

My love for him made me flesh and bone—vulnerable.

I was finally a woman with something to lose and would do anything to keep it.
But when my past caught up with my present, it became clear that safe would forever remain an illusion.

Laz was coming for us, his looming darkness a threat to the life I carefully designed.

Armed with hope, and ready for battle, I never imagined the casualties of the war that came to me.

And then I lost all control.

He was a threat to all I had built. A fatal blow to the reputation I had carefully crafted. He would tear my castle apart and ruin my kingdom if I’d let him. Because I loved him. Someone had to love the fucking villain.

It has been nearly two years since I read Camouflage and it took no time at all to jump right back into the crazy and chaotic world that Taylor Ellison and Daniello Di Giovanni reside in. CROSSHAIRS is the explosive and highly erotic conclusion to the ”Predator and Prey” series and let me just say, Kate Stewart delivered one hell of a spectacular finale to this crazy but entertaining story!

 photo Crosshairs-teaser1_zpsik8lmm3z.jpg

Taylor is one seriously badass heroine. This woman was born into a world full of poverty and raised by drug addicted and abusive parents. It was by sheer determination and the strong will of a warrior that she pulled herself out of destitution and made something of herself. But regret and guilt over leaving her little sister behind have always haunted her. Taylor had the chance to rescue her sister and little nephew from a living hell but it didn’t come without any consequences. Her once childhood sweetheart, now turned nemesis is out for revenge and he also happens to be the father of her sister’s baby boy. It would seem that there are quite a few bad guys out to get Taylor and she’s not at all certain that her current lover, Danielo, isn’t one of them.

Daniello and Taylor continue their passionate affair, knowing that it will soon come to an end and that one day they’ll have to say goodbye forever. Neither is willing to open up to the other completely. So many secrets still keep them from committing 100% to what is building between them. Even though Taylor is quite certain that Daniello definitely works outside the law and that being with him could put her and the ones she loves in harm’s way, she can’t seem to let him go.

 photo Crosshairs-teaser4_zpsfbemnvu7.jpg

We are taken back to Taylor’s past where we meet the young Laz and share some tender moments between the childhood sweethearts. It only helped to further cloud my feelings for this man who turned out to be such a low and despicable character later in life. It humanized him and made my heart bleed a bit for his lost soul. Next, we meet through flashbacks, the man who took Taylor out of the trailer park and helped form her into the well-bred socialite with a Harvard education. Roy was an enigma but utterly charismatic. His hot and cold temperament only fueled Taylor’s desire and love for him. I fell for this man as well. Again, Kate Stewart creates a story where I found myself falling for more than one man!

Ultimately the true love of Taylor’s life is the dark, sinfully gorgeous and dangerous Daniello. I couldn’t get enough of him. Taylor wasn’t the only one suffering whenever he would disappear for months at a time! I couldn’t wait for him to reappear in her life when she least expected it.

Kate Stewart brought her ‘A game’ when she wrote Crosshairs. She brought the suspense, brought the sexy, brought the twists, turns, and surprises. I was blown away by this book! It was an intense, unpredictable, and a completely compelling read!
I was a game. He was a predator and I his prey.

After reading Camouflage, I was dying to know how Taylor’s story would end. We had to wait a while to get it, but it was definitely worth the wait!

Taylor is a woman with a past. We get more insight into her life through this book. I loved the flashbacks into the past. They were some of my favorite parts of the story. I liked getting to know Taylor more in that way. You could really see how she got to be the woman she is. She’s by no means an open book, and some things about her still surprised me, but I feel like I know her better now. Daniello on the other hand is as much as a mystery as ever throughout most of the story. There is so much I want to say about him and his story, but you’ll be getting no spoilers from me :)

This review is sort of vague for a reason. You want to read these books and experience all the surprises first hand. Trust me- go in blind with this series!

If you like sexy, dirty erotica, this book is for you. If you like fast paced and wild story-lines, this book is for you. If you like books that make you guess and have twists and turns you don’t see coming, this book is for you. And if you like passionate and emotional stories, this book is for you. The Predator and Prey duet is one you won’t want to miss out on! I highly recommend this series!
It wasn’t fear that got me to where I was anymore and it was love that kept me bullet proof.

"I will return."
description

Crosshairs is the second book in the Predator and Prey Series. This suspenseful contemporary romance offers an action-packed conclusion to the Predator and Prey Duet. I have been anticipating this book for so long, and Kate Stewart certainly delivered as Daniello and Taylor are back with a bang.

description
"I am your lover. I am your protector. I am all of these things."
Crosshairs picks up directly after Camouflage. Daniello and Taylor are still drowning in each other. Their physical relationship full of intense sexual escapades and stolen moments together. The chemistry between these two is explosive. And as their relationship continues to flourish, Taylor begins to question her desire for more. Taylor wonders if Daniello is willing to give more of himself to her!

description
"I am your mirror."
With Taylor's sister back in her life, she is instantly thrust back into the dark memories of her past. Taylor must come to terms with the woman she was and how she transformed into the woman she has become. Remembering her past life brings and emotional toll on her, and she begins to question her present life and her involvement with Daniello. Beyond the physical dynamics between the two, Daniello has remained a stranger to her and yet, she has found a semblance of peace with him like she has never experienced before. As the emotional turmoil continues to build, the demons from her past threaten her future. As Daniello tries to intervene, he is swiftly torn away and Taylor must find the strength to fight for the life she has worked so hard to maintain.

description
"Before him, I was an empty woman, void of love. Without him, I'd lost my soul."
Told in dual POV, Crosshairs contains a complex plot with fast action and intense relationships between the characters. The dynamics between Daniello and Taylor are extreme and full of fiery passion. Taylor is such a strong heroine, and I admired her strength and desire to persevere no matter the cost. In this installment, I especially enjoyed the manner in which Taylor revealed the pieces from her past. Laz, Ray, her sister, her mother, and her friend Cedric all contributed to Taylor's successes or failures. Daniello's family dynamics are equally as complex. The action and intrigue in this plot kept me on the edge of my seat the entire read.

description

Overall, I highly recommend the Predator and Prey Series to contemporary readers who like dark elements, smoking-hot passion, and strong characters. I have long been a fan of Kate Stewart, and the conclusion of Taylor and Daniello's saga was well worth the wait!

This Cinderella had no prince waiting, but she didn’t need one and never would. No, this Cinderella had run with the rats, fucked a prince or two, and decided that self-worth was superior to being second to a man’s ego.

Now it's been a hot minute since I first read Camouflage but it didn't take me long to be sucked right back into the world of Predator and Prey. Kate Stewart brings a fiery, suspenseful, and heart pounding conclusion to a story that owned me from the very beginning. It's impossible not to become completely wrapped up in her words and her characters. She truly has a gift for creating some of the most vivid, unapologetically broken and unorthodox characters. And let me tell you, it doesn't get more unorthodox than Taylor and Daniello.
She was no whore; she was untouchable. A self-made picture of perseverance that drew breath and exhaled fire.
A phoenix.
My phoenix.

It's rare that I read about a heroine that truly owns her sexuality and Taylor was the epitome of power and sex. This is a woman that didn't just fight to the top; she almost sold her soul for it. She makes no bones about who she is. She doesn't feel bad for herself. She knows who she is and she owns it. While her heart was broken by life and lovers past, no one has truly made it beat quite as much as a man that's even more untouchable to her today as he was before. A threat to everything she holds dear; his secrets may just cost her everything.
He was a threat to all I had built. A fatal blow to the reputation I had carefully crafted. He would tear my castle apart and ruin my kingdom if I let him. Because I loved him. Someone had to love the fucking villain.

Everything truly comes to a head here. I swear I could feel my pulse pounding through my fingers with every page I turned. It was impossible to put down. I was starving for more details of Daniello. Who is he? What does he do? This man is cloaked in danger and oozes sex from his every pore. He's utterly magnetic and I couldn't get enough of him.
We clung to each other as he tore me apart piece by piece and fed me for his absence. My body repeatedly shuddered as he commanded it. At his mercy, an ocean of feeling swept between us as he silenced my doubts with every soothing touch of his hands.

As desperate as I was for more information about Daniello, I was just as desperate for more of Taylor's past. The mysterious Ray, the ultimate devastating destruction of her childhood love, her sister and the danger that follows them into the present. All of it completely sucked me in, leaving me desperately turning the pages well into the night.
Years of living like a savage had forced me to a place where very little light existed, but Taylor’s light forced her way under my skin and into my veins.

This was one of the most satisfying conclusions to a duet I've ever in a long damn while. It was worth every second of the wait. It was, in a word, perfection. It was gritty and sexy, heart stopping, and unputdownable.

If you're looking for a romance that's different, with enigmatic characters that are so vivid you feel like they practically jump off the pages, and a story that's full of twists and turns, then look no further. Because you just found your next addiction!

“It was a game. He was a predator and I his prey. I was Daniello’s mouse.”

Wow! Kate Stewart’s Predator and Prey duet is just pure indulgence and awesomeness. You will need to read the first instalment Camouflage first and then dive straight into Crosshairs. Just an FYI, I will be keeping this review short and sweet because this NEEDS to be enjoyed spoiler free. It was full of so many twists and turns and had so much suspense that I wouldn’t want to ruin anything for you from either book. Crosshairs had me completely enthralled with an intensity that was out of this world, and did I mention the plot twists?

After I had finished reading Camouflage I could not wait to get my grubby little hands on Crosshairs. I just had to get some answers and I needed them ASAP. Luckily for me I had only recently read Camouflage, so my wait was not long at all.

I loved Taylor in Camouflage and I’m happy to report that my love for her did not diminish in the slightest throughout Crosshairs. Taylor has had a pretty messed up and rocky past and the reader gets a somewhat better insight into her characterisation as to why she is the way she is.

“Someone had to love the fucking Villain.”

Daniello on the other hand is still quite a mystery to me, which I didn’t mind, because some of the story was written in his POV so the reader was given some opportunity to get inside his head and try to work him out. I’m not going to divulge anything further because you seriously need to read it to find out.

If you are a fan of dark, suspenseful, intense and erotic stories, then you need to check out this amazing duet by the very talented Kate Stewart. You do need to read these stories in order; Camouflage and then Crosshairs. They are so compelling, intense and OH SO HOT, you’ll literally be on the edge of your seat whilst reading them. Seriously check them out. You know you want to.

"I will return."

Do yourself a favor and don't spoil yourself by reading reviews with spoilers. Go in blind and be wowed. I'm trying to keep this review as spoiler-free as possible.

This book continues where we left off. I had a lot of question marks at the end of the first installment. Among them was "What is Amber's game?" and "What happened to Ray?" Let me tell you right away, you will leave these characters with a full understanding of everyone of them. Kate Stewart tied this story up neatly.

We get a very good view into Taylor's past through flashbacks which shows us how she became this unbreakable, unyielding woman she is today. At the end of the book you see a woman full of compassion, even for her greatest nemesis. I love this complicated woman so much.

This Cinderella had no prince waiting, but she didn’t need one and never would. No, this Cinderella had run with the rats, fucked a prince or two, and decided that self-worth was superior to being second to a man’s ego.

Some chapters are written from Daniello's POV and those give us insight into his emotional world, what he feels for his Phoenix and the darkness that he is. Instead of running from the danger he poses to her life, Taylor embraces it. This man will do anything to protect his love and she knows it.

Someone had to love the fucking villain.

Both of them know that their love has an expiry date so they live in the moment without facing the future. That doesn't keep the past from haunting them though and even though he is one of the villains you will definitely feel pity and compassion for the person Taylor's childhood friend Lazarus has become and THAT is a feat Kate managed to do, let me tell you.

Kate Stewart is wrapping up this duo with a bang and I am so freaking happy that I got the chance to read it - it ticks all my boxes. She has established her position as one of my favorite authors. Go in blind and let her wow you too.

I studied Daniello and realized out of all the men in my life, he was the only one who taught me the truth about love. He had come into my life as a threat to all my principles and fully wrecked my line of thinking. Order and excellence had their place, but so did passion, spontaneity, and love.

Crosshairs is book 2 in the Predator and Prey series and has to be read in order.

Review @ Midnight Romance

Finally the author decided to re-release the first book also final conclusion of Predator and Prey duet that I've been waiting for ages. No kiddin'. I was conflicted with the first book, Camouflage because of the ending. I just wanna say... I'm impressed!

description

A bit recap, Taylor Ellison escaped her shitty life and turns into successful business woman. She met Daniello Di Giovanni, a handsome Hispanic man who is she in lust with. Taylor didn't like his secrets and her guts tell he's a dangerous man. A man from the past haunted Taylor back through her sister, Amber. She went back to save her and Daniello came for her unexpectedly.

After Taylor save her sister, she's getting flashbacks. Beside her ex from hometown, there's another person named Ray who seems to be Taylor's savior. Through her flashbacks, I learned the hard truth about her survival until now. Anyway, Daniello still a ghost. He rarely appears and it frustrated Taylor.
“Tell me to leave.”
“I can’t.”
He closed his eyes briefly. “Tell me to go. You know this will only end bad.”
“Then let it end badly.”

The story mostly told from dual POVs between Taylor and Daniello. Taylor is busy helping Amber through the problem caused by his ex. At this point, I'm kinda questioning Amber's motive because she looks fishy. When they're finally free, Taylor has to face another truth about Daniello.
He would tear my castle apart and ruin my kingdom if I let him.
Because I loved him.
Someone had to love the fucking villain.

After an unexpected accident happened to Amber, Taylor blamed everything to Daniello also herself. She's conflicted with her feelings and started to show her weakness. Taylor went to martyrdom path. Sigh. Well, I kinda realize what is Daniello but still in blind with his background. It was kinda sad about what happened to Daniello and the sacrifice they have to make in the end.
Before him, I was an empty woman, void of love. Without him, I’d lost my soul. Uncontrollable sobs racked my body as I wept for the man who had continually tried to save me since the minute we met—from myself, from the dangers of my own life, and his. He’d walked into the fire to save me.
And I’d asked him to.

Behind Taylor's tough chick attitude, there's some longing with some man in her past. Her happy memories. Also the present when she's with Daniello like he's everything she ever wanted in a man. The chemistry is still in there. Oh yeah, the sex still happened and super HOT but it is not much like in the first book.
“In that bed, behind that door, you put your fingers inside your pussy with my name on your lips. I am the man you want. There is no other explanation.”
“I watch you with my cock in my hand, Phoenix, with my need for you. I know who you are. I know what we are. Do you? You need me, here I am.”
“Fuck you.”
“Deny it, Taylor. Lie. To. Me.”
description

Honestly, it's kinda hard to write this review because the story totally blew me away! Even there's some issues with the characters and a bit rushed in the ending, I still loved it. Well done!

I had to wait two years for the sequel to Camouflage but let me tell you all it was worth the wait. No question about that. When I finished reading Camouflage I had so many questions and was so excited to see where Kate Stewart would take Taylor, Daniello, Laz and Amber with Crosshairs.

The story picks up right where Camouflage ended and from just reading the first couple of pages it's non stop suspense and erotica at it's best. Holy hell this story was exhilarating. I kept questioning certain characters and their motives not knowing who to trust. I was really invested in this story and it was like I was watching a movie in my head.

I loved Taylor in Camouflage and while reading Crosshairs my love and admiration for her only intensified. She's been a child of abuse and neglect like her younger sister Amber but doesn't use it as an excuse or let it define her. She uses it as a strength to achieve her goals she sets her mind to. All she's done since she was a child was trying to save herself and Amber. She's still fighting for it in Crosshairs when her past and her first love catches up with her.
The mysterious and very dangerous Daniello is a man Taylor can't resist and vice versa. Their intense and sexual relationship is intoxicating and addictive. They enjoy one another for what their relationship is, no strings, but danger lurks around the corner which brings them closer emotionally.

This story was so damn entertaining and crazy Hot. A perfect combination of gritty action, suspense and delicious erotica. The characters especially Taylor and Daniello were so intricate and layered that I loved every revelation that was revealed. Especially Taylor's past and her involvement with the mysterious Ray was a highlight of mine, cause he had a huge impact on her and on how she viewed herself, life and the world.
Their pasts had shaped them into the people they were today. Loyal to family and to love.

Kate Stewart excels with this genre just as she does with romance, angst and romcom. Wow! She nails Crosshairs to perfection. The story is well developed and so are the characters. Her attention to details and her mixture of suspense, romance and erotica is effortlessly executed. Crosshairs has definitely been worth the wait.

How much of my mother has my mother left in me?
How much of my love will be insane to some degree?
And what about this feeling that I'm never good enough?
Will it wash out in the water, or is it always in the blood?
-John Mayor-

She was no whore; she was untouchable. A self-made picture of perseverance that drew breath and exhaled fire.
A phoenix. My phoenix.

Finally! I’d almost given up on the release of this book.
Book 1, Camouflage ended with quite the cliffhanger and Crosshairs picks up right where Camouflage left off.

Through several flashback scenes we get to know Taylor and Laz’s past and they had me definitely feeling for Laz, becoming this person because of his drug addiction. Of course, it is his own doing but it’s very clear how much he loves Taylor and how much it broke them both when she had to leave him. Equally difficult for Taylor to leave the way she did especially because she too loved the boy he was before the drugs.

I enjoyed the revelation about Ray. What he has meant to her and what his role has been in her life. I just loved that and really had to swallow!!!
Kitten, In another life, I would have loved you.

Daniello is still the enigma who comes and go and Taylor is still left in the dark about who or what he is. But when Daniello shows up intent to spend more than a night with Taylor “I have come to vacation with you!” an accident on the way to their destination confirms what Taylor already suspected but it still shocking her to the core.

Crosshair is told in alternating POV’s between Taylor, Daniello & Taz that flowed nicely in the story.
Daniello handles the situation with Laz and announces “I will not return.” disintegrating Taylor and shattering her piece by piece.

I was really curious to know more about Daniello, but also wanted to know how Taylor managed to rise from the ashes with the help of the mysterious Ray. But with the cliffhanger of book 1 I also wondered how the situation with Laz would be solved especially with her sister bringing love, danger and destruction.

“What is fit for a king is also fit for a phoenix.”

The conclusion to the Predator and Prey series had me pinned to my chair, completely sucking me in and finishing in less than a day.

It wasn’t fear that got me to where I was anymore, and it was love that kept me bulletproof.

In Crosshairs, the timeline continues without interruption as Taylor Ellison’s world has been turned on its axis. Taylor is a strong heroine who has risen in the ranks of the corporate world but her personal life has always been kept under lock and key. Until now, Taylor accepted her reality with emotionless sex and a strict work schedule but as her attraction to Daniello Di Giovanni continues to grow, her past is intersecting with the present and causing danger to her those she loves.

“That’s my addiction: beautiful men without souls.”

Adding to the uncertainty is the mystery about Daniello and his efforts to keep detached from Taylor. Their lives have intersected in ways that prevent a neat separation, especially when the stakes are raised making certain intentions quite transparent. Not known to cower from a challenge, Taylor is determined to put an end to all threats no matter the consequence to herself.

“He would tear my castle apart and ruin my kingdom if I’d let him. Because I loved him. Someone had to love the fucking villain.”

In the midst of this game of predator and prey, Taylor and Daniello continue to share an undeniable chemistry with each having met their match. Confident in her sexual prowess, she wants all of Daniello and isn’t afraid to push him until he gives all of himself.

“He stood a picture of pure temptation, while he kept my hair fisted, and slowly unzipped his pants. His bulging length sprang free and my mouth watered.”

In this final conclusion, Taylor comes full circle by accepting a balance to her life that she’s been fighting for so long. The inclusion of past memories with her mother, sister, Laz and Ray solidify a connection to Taylor’s character and shows her growth and reflection. Additionally, these scenes offer multiple layers of emotion to the plot and underscore the significance of Taylor’s decisions. Plus, getting to know more about the aloof and dominant, Ray Tyco, was a treat even though it was heartbreaking.

In addition to the erotica that sizzles the pages, the author’s ability to write compelling suspense is ever present while continuing to weave plot dynamics layer by layer. For me, this duet was really about Taylor’s evolution, as she is such vibrant character with real flaws that humanize her. Of course, the conflict surrounding Daniello prods Taylor in a certain direction that enhances her journey.

Crosshairs offers a story about circumstances and choices with a healthy dose of reality and eroticism that together make for a captivating and entertaining read. Having been a longtime fan of Kate Stewart and waiting for this series conclusion, it was well worth the wait.

4.5 Alpha Hot Stars!

Finally, Crosshairs is here after what seemed like forever! It is the steamy conclusion to Kate Stewart’s Camouflage. This is book 2 in the Predator and Prey series…the series where Taylor Ellison took my kindle by storm and left me wondering what is next.

Taylor is a fierce female. She is passionately tough and exudes survivorship. Finally her past comes to light and the complexity and strength of her character is understood. Stoic perhaps… she is unapologetic in her success, but she was completely thrown off by a dark, dangerous Daniello. He was just a shadow in the night. He was a dark angel of passion who drew her into an abyss of desire. The only problem with her taking his pleasure was not knowing his story…his game…his ability to take without much give. Never has Taylor experienced the want for more. Never has this woman cared enough to become vulnerable. She is a pure female alpha who battles with her “need of a man.”

“Emotions were becoming a thick cloud between us, far too hard to ignore…We had no future; we barely had the resemblance of a relationship. We were fiery sex and stolen moments.”

In the heart of this dark, secret romance was a storm of a story brewing. Taylor’s past was catching up to her. Her present was a chaos of uncertainty and her future was all hinged on the knowing of her dark angel…Daniello.

What can I say? I love this type of read. I prefer the dark and the dirty. I love a relationship that has grit and a sense of impending doom…a there is no tomorrow kind of feel. Taylor and Daniello are both mysteriously fierce and when together they walk the edge of pure explosion. Passion is present…danger is expectant…love is unexpected.

“Tell me to leave.
“I can’t.”
“Tell me to go. You know this will only end bad.”
“Then let it end badly.”

Twists and turns and action all around, Kate Stewart gives her stories more than just a punch. She delivers emotions into a tale of death and betrayal. She brings palpable intimacy between two people who finally want more…who want to walk in the light. The road isn’t straight, the characters are not pretty, but the story is fabulous! I have no idea how this author can change up her genres and deliver every time. Maybe I’m partial but I feel like she writes erotic suspense flawlessly and I have never been happier to have had the opportunity to beta read this story and see the progression of the story!

I was honoured to beta read for the conclusion of Predator and Prey. I can't tell you how much I'd anticipated this book, so much so, I was scared to read it. My expectations were high and my NEED to have more Daniello was out of this world. The first book, Camouflage had left me mind blown and craving for more.

'Nuff said, so you'll get it when I say, this was a fantastic conclusion to Taylor and Daniello's story!! Kate did not disappoint with both the light and the dark, the sexy and the sweet. And seriously, Daniello, is HAF. That man could read the chemical ingredients off a paint can and I'd be whipping off my panites!

This dark, twisted story kept me praying for the best possible outcome, but also knowing shit was gonna hit the fan! Highly recommend this series! If you want a mind-fuck with a truly sexy and alluring anti-hero, THIS IS A MUST READ!!

Crosshairs (Predator and Prey #2) by Kate Stewart
4.5 stars!!!

“It’s not the monster you love. It’s the memory.”

Ooooo Kate Stewart more than delivered with Crosshairs, this author bought her emotional ‘A’ game. I cried a river reading this book, Kate Stewart always manages to evoke those tears whether she means to or not. I ran the gamut of emotions such was the character connection, the heat packed into this book was seriously sizzling, mix this all with some serious intrigue and this was one riveting read. There were twists and turns aplenty, some I saw coming and some I didn’t, this book was intense, seriously intense, totally unputdownable, unpredictable and an amazing finale to this duet.

“Kissing is for lovesick fools. You get my fortune and my cock. That has to be enough. My heart is no good.”

Crosshairs picks up from where Camouflage left off and while the beginning was a little on the slower side I was grateful for the break of pace, because knowing how this author delivers, she wasn’t going to take it easy on the reader for long and it wasn’t long before the first sucker punches were delivered.

“He was the predator and I his prey.”

I have been anxious as to how Taylor and Daniello’s story was going to pan out. These two were total opposites and yet their connection was palpable, every scene between these two was electric whether they were simply talking or making moves with their bodies. The current that runs between these two was ever present on the pages and you could almost feel the sizzle with every page turn. It is not often you feel that between a couple, but when these two were together the pages seriously lit up. That sexual chemistry was palpable and I felt it. As I said above, the character connection was on point and I lived and breathed this story, when they hurt I hurt, like seriously hurt, but this is what I treasure about this authors words, she always brings it.

“He would tear my castle apart and ruin my kingdom if I’d let him. Because I loved him. Someone had to love the fucking villain.”

I am going to be seriously vague in this review because you need to read it as the author intended, you need to experience those highs and lows first hand to truly appreciate the story telling that this author perfectly penned. The flashbacks to Taylor’s past go a long ways into making the reader understand Taylor as a person and how she has become the woman she is today. These past chapters made this book for me. From the first one I was intrigued and was totally invested in her past just as much as I was her present. There is so much I could say about her past, but I can’t, but the person that gave her the means to be the strong, independent, powerful woman she is today…holds a huge piece of my heart too.

“You will be my greatest investment, my legacy…and my downfall.”

Daniello has always been a mystery, an enigma, but I couldn’t give a fuck because he was seriously hot as sin. Alpha, protective, a man’s man, he was alluring, charming, innocently funny and yet just his mere presence haunted the pages. Daniello was like a male siren and boy did he call. Finally, we get to know the man, his past, his family and his calling. While there is still that intrigue surrounding him, Kate Stewart gave us everything we needed to draw our own conclusions and he firmly planted himself on my BBF shelf.

“And Taylor appealed to every part of me. Even the man who would burn down a village to prove a point. I was that man, and I wanted this woman. But I had years of scattered ashes in my wake. And though she’d risen from hers, I washed myself daily in mine.”

This was by no means your run of the mill romance. This was Kate Stewart’s dirty side and every powerplay, battle for dominance and erotic yet sensual sex scenes are what seriously ramped up the heat factor in this book. But, Kate’s angel side, that emotional side was prevalent throughout and really balanced these two as a couple and made the reader believe in them as a couple. Their path is far from simple, the mountains are high and the valleys are low, but if any couple have the strength to make it work, it is these two. From the edge of my seat for most of the ride my fingernails bitten to the quick, Kate Stewart showed just how powerful and consuming her stories really are. Another winner, a great ending to this duet and I will part with one word…CEDRIC. Kate Stewart…CEDRIC, CEDRIC, CEDRIC, CEDRIC.

“Sleeping dogs can’t lie, they’re asleep.”

Good grief! I need to take a breath – this book was a total mind f*ck! So good though, a page turner. Get some wine and prepare yourself for a rollercoaster ride.
Crosshairs is the second book of Predator and Prey series and you do need to read Camouflage first. Crosshairs picked right where Amber was rescued out of the prison of Laz. She is with a child now but had lost custody of her boy to Laz’s mother. Both Laz and Amber are drug addicts and in no shape to care for their child. Amber needs help getting her son back and she needs her sister Taylor in a bad way. Laz is still angry and out for revenge on Taylor for leaving him bleeding to dead years ago. There is a fine line between love and hate Laz has for Taylor. Daniello is still a mystery and dangerous as ever. What supposed to be a f*ck buddy relationship he has with Taylor turned more passionate. Daniello went all alpha and possessive of Taylor. For the first-time Taylor has romantic feelings for a man but can she trust Daniello? What will happen when Laz come looking for Taylor – a woman Daniello declared is his woman? Well, one cluster f*ck that’s what!!!

Holy moly! This second book is a lot more intense. There is so much ups and downs, twisted events that happened to all of the characters. Daniello is dangerous but is he trustworthy, a good guy? Laz – he is so drugged up and lost. In a way, I feel bad for him because he is so blindly in love with Taylor he doesn’t quite know how to let go. Taylor – you will find a huge secret past – an event immediately followed after she ran away from home. Taylor’s road to success wasn’t easy and smooth sailing as we think. Amber suffered so much under the hands of their deadbeat mother but she is finally free. As to whether she is happy or not, it is all depend on if she ever gets her son back and stay clean. The plot is so sick and intense – I honestly did not realize how unpredictable, dark and gritty this story turned out to be. Of course, there is still a large dose of crazy hot, erotic, and sexiness romance between Taylor and Daniello. This book is fast paced and also very suspenseful I found myself clued to my kindle. I think the plot is quite unique and there are so may unexpected events throughout that kept me captivated the whole way. I read all of Kate Stewart’s book and I know she can write ANYTHING. This one is an erotic, romantic suspense. Quite an entertaining and compelling read – grab a copy, you will not be disappointed.

Book two and the conclusion to the series Predator and Prey.
IMHO Camouflage and Crosshairs are ONE book!! Liked book #2 a little better than book #1; as a whole I loved it! The end was -of course- predictable but I love (need, prefer) a HEA. Thoroughly enjoyed Taylor and Daniello's story! {Bietjuh veul gesex, maar vooruit, lol!}

There seems to be a book about Nina and Devin??
Edit: turns out I've already read those books in 2015!! Opulence, Reverence and Hindrance by Angelica Chase, lol!
Angelica Chase's books seems to be re-released with another pen name, Kate Stewart. 😊

"Someone had to love the fucking villain". Oh hell yeah they do!

I am so happy with the conclusion of Taylor and Daniello's story! It was packed full of suspense and it had me all over the place. My heart was pounding one minute and breaking the next. We get hot and sexy, characters growing, some changing for the better (or for worse), some sacrifices that where made and a lot of closure. Whew it was one helluva ride!

I almost broke out into the running man when I saw that we get some different POV's in this one. Daniello was the International Man of Mystery in the last book, I'm so glad we got to find out all about him in this one. That made me extremely happy. He's so yummy. Taylor is just overall a complete badass. She endured so much in her life, she deserves a whole lot of happy.

Overall, what a fantastic erotic suspense duet. I thought it was well worth the wait!

Okay....wow! This was a great duet and kept me glued to my kindle over the holiday weekend. After being introduced to Taylor and her mystery man in Excess, I couldn't wait to read her story. Taylor is one tough chick....but with a softer inside. Daniello....Just his name is sexy....was just Yummy! I loved his interpretations of the English language. There was suspense in the story that I enjoyed (without giving anything away, I felt bad for one of the bad guys in the story) and the sexy times...um...off the hook! I am so glad that I waited until both books were out to read them. The cliffy at the end of the first book would have killed me if I had to wait.

I love Kate Stewarts writing and it still amazes me how she can go from writing an emotionally draining book (The Mind....one of my top favs) to this. Just brilliant. Loved it!

SHIT!!!!!

I am kinda regretting all of my other 5 star ratings that I have given recently because this just blew them outta the park.

This crazy journey of our awesome heroine Taylor and her struggle to become the Phoenix she truly is. What a woman. She isn't heroic. She is selfish. But her endgame is just and all she wants is to protect her only family. Tragic and heartbreaking, we see Daniello and Taylor picking up in the aftermath of Amber's rescue and learning more about each other. Their two worlds start to collide and consequences of their decisions and secrets start to come to a head.

I love these two. I love their relationship and that they understand that they are so messed up they are struggling to find their normal. I loved their 'vacationing'. I loved the poor English. And I loved the glimpses of normal in between the crazy - those were some of my favourite conversations.

Just heartbreaking reading - so many tears - I have a complete book hangover. And so well written - completely on the edge of my seat for the whole ride.

If you love darkness and angst and struggles and blood, sweat and tears then read this mutha.

Still feeling emosh. Where are my bloody tissues??

Book 2 finally gives us the conclusions of the story lines from Taylor's past which had me in tears. Then we watch Daniello and Taylor make some extremely tough decisions that could destroy everything they have together. It was a great ending to an intense, vulnerable and edgy love story!

Great books. Taylor endured so much hardship it was difficult to read. All the men in her life had authentic problems that Taylor had to live with and through. Rollercoaster at times and I held my breath reading some parts.

Kate has outdone herself with the conclusion of the Predator and Prey duet!! I LOVED IT!!

More hot and steamy action, more twists and turns, and more....well, more of everything that made Camouflage amazing. Just when I thought I knew how the story was going to turn out, Kate throws in a twist I didn't see coming. Trust me when I say you need to read this series!

OH WOW, Kate did not disappoint in the conculsion of this duet!! Kate left me with a heart grabber from Camouflage and continues to cut me apart with this book, I don't even really know what to say other than this was AMAZING!!

We already knew Taylor was a badass that had a past, well we get to learn so much more about her and Daniello in this book. Daniello gets a voice and I loved everything he had to say!! At times I was not very happy with him or his actions but he would definitely be one of those characters that you hate to love. I am super happy and surprised by this conclusion!! I can only hope that we get another spin-off from this group of friends!! Or at the very least maybe a few check ins, Kate ;-)

Kate Stewart has simply outdone herself. This was the perfect ending to Daniello and Taylor's story. The suspense and action had me holding my breath and the sex scenes hand me fanning myself. The heat and passion was a direct sign of the chemistry between Daniello & Taylor. They knew how to push each others' buttons and elicit reactions that sometimes only lovers can do.

To me there was a similarities to the characters and storyline when compared to Gone With The Wind.
Gone With The Wind vs. Crosshairs
Rhett (HOT) ... Daniello (HOTTER)
I mean come on, the accent alone can bring a girl to her knees, no?!

Scarlett (STRONG, SEXY & DETERMINED) ... Taylor (STRONG, SEXIER, MORE DETERMINED AND FIERCE)
Charleston ... Charleston

Now that I really have had time to reflect on this story I truly believe that Taylor is like a mix of Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind and Fancy from Reba MCEntire's song. These ladies all have several things in common. They're strong, fierce and determined to make something of themselves no matter what obstacles life throws at them.

There were so many characters, yet Kate Stewart has an impeccable story telling ability that keeps the details flowing and the characters arranged in such a way that I'm able to follow and mentally catalog each and every one with explicit details and understanding as to their role in the plot.
I mean the list of important or key characters to complete the tale is insane:
Taylor, Laz, Ray, Amber, Cedric, Nina, Aaron, Daniello, Rocco, Tula, Lucy, Joseph, Donato
and these are just the ones off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm missing some, but hopefully you see my point. Even with a character list this extensive, Kate's somehow able to mesh them together with an exact design that makes you loath some and embrace the others.

The twists and turns had me returning to previously read portions and rethinking the direction I thought the story may be going in. I think I can truthfully say that I never know what Kate Stewart is going to have her characters say or do and that in and of itself keeps me coming back for more.

One of my favorite quotes from Daniello:
"You want to be fucked, Taylor, but he would not have satisfied you. I am inside you. You want me. You need my cock. Your thirst is not for him. You fool yourself. You make me a fool."

One of my favorite quotes from Taylor:
"... this Cinderella had run with the rats, fucked a prince or two, and decided that self-worth was superior to being second to a man's ego."

Anytime there is a child or children written into the story, even for a brief moment they can steal the show and little Joseph is no exception. His ability to end each statement with "Tank weezus" - just utterly priceless!

Both Camouflage and Crosshairs will be a pair of books that will definitely be re-read again and again!

I’ve been waiting a long time for this book, and usually when there is a large gap between books I have a tendency to forget what may have happened in between, and I’m not one for re-reads. This series though...*bites knuckles*

Camouflage, the first book in this duet was amazing and left off in a cliffhanger so Crosshairs picks up right where Camouflage left off. I’m not going to recap the story, because there are some major plot twists and I do not want to spoil them. Believe me, you don’t want them spoiled either. This is one of those books (series) that evokes nearly every emotion possible. Love, loss, hope, desperation…keep the tissues handy and prepare for a wild ride.

Unlike the first book, Crosshairs is told in the first person from three different POVs, Taylor, Daniello, and Laz’s. While three different POVs may seem ambitious, Stewart manages to do it with ease. The characters are complex, as are their stories and the way that they all center around Taylor, a kickass heroine who finally reveals that she’s human after all. Underneath her tough exterior is a woman who finds her priorities shifting, with the discovery that family is what matters more than anything. No amount of money or success will fulfill her, and she must fight for those she loves, regardless of the consequences or her own safety.

There are several flashback scenes between Taylor and Laz that soften those hard edges Laz has developed as a result of his drug use. It’s easy to see just how difficult it may have been for Taylor to leave the way she did and humanizes him, something that years of addiction have stripped him of.

And Daniello…*bites knuckles again, only much harder* He’s right near the top of all-time book boyfriends. He straddles the thin line between wrong and right when it comes to those whose morals are questionable. He’s like a ghost, yet omniscient, involving himself in all of Taylor’s affairs simply to keep her safe. Their relationship is complicated, yet changes them both for the better.

Crosshairs is a riveting, erotic, page-turner that will consume you from the first page. If you haven’t read the first book, you MUST. This is definitely not one of those books you can just jump into and know what’s going on. If you haven’t read the first, luckily for you, you can read them back-to-back. Do it, you will not regret it.

I'm Speechess after finishing this!
For those of you that read Camouflage 2 years ago, this conclusion to Taylor and Daniello's story was more than worth the wait. I was fortunate to have just read Camouflage recently and now I feel whole. This was raw and gritty and far from sugar coated.
It was authentic.
I Love that about Kate Stewart.
This was a more in depth look into every character's heart and soul. What made them cringe and what motivated them. It was action packed, deliciously lustful, and fuelled with emotion.
Taylor really had to come to terms with her past demons and finally put them behind her, but the reveal of every morsel of her past made me understand what guided her. I loved that she was willing to get burned, playing with the fire that is Daniello. Honestly she didn't have a choice. She was enraptured by him. Their carnal need for each other only grew stronger the more that they were together and apart. I know that sounds like a contradiction, but truer words have never been expressed!
Daniello is a beast! Still ever secretive, but loyal through and through. Like Taylor he was dedicated to his family. The strength he exuded was commendable physically and emotionally. He was completely smitten with Taylor, yet hid it so well from her. Pound for pound they were the perfect match.
This story was written with precision.
Everything fell into place at just the right time. I say that in hindsight, but I was dying to know the answers to so many questions surrounding these characters. Like most vested readers your impatience can get the best of you. However, Kate always manages to shock me with each story I read. I am totally invested in the characters in this series and I can't wait to see where she takes Amber and Nick.

While though Daniello was mysterious, I certainly had no idea about all of the revelations of Taylor's past. And it explains so much of who she is today and why she's so guarded and never lets anyone in. Taylor is accustomed to sharing her love and affection and having it tossed back in her face without reciprocation. But with the flashbacks, it's apparent that those people who didn't cherish it enough still cared for her in the only way they knew how.

Taylor and Daniello may have a palpable connection full of heat and steam, but the reality of the situation is that they cannot have a long term relationship. Between Daniello's future and Taylor's past, there's a lot of obstacles between them even if they wanted to be together. Still, Daniello and Taylor are somewhat emotionally unavailable, until they realize the strength of their relationship and just how far they would go for the other, even if it puts everything else on the line. What impressed and surprised me about this story was that both of them make their own sacrifices for the other, knowing the consequences. There was suspense, action, hot moments and flashbacks. Maybe I wasn't a fan of Daniello at first, but he won me over by the end. More than anything, I just wanted Taylor to find happiness because she deserved it, and to build a circle of trust and support around her because she'd been a lone ranger for so long.

Epic conclusion to this duet.
If you've read Camouflage and thought it was a beautiful mess, get ready (with tissues, vibrator, and a bottle of whiskey) for Crosshairs. -If you haven't, I urge you to read it.

First of all, kuddos to the author for writing such a beautiful love story where the main character is an untameable and resolute woman.
Crosshairs is the story of a woman who has loved several times in her life. And each time, as much as she learnt, and gained from this love, she also lost a piece of her.

But Taylor is strong, and independant, she's a self made woman, thriving for excellence and order, who will keep her head high in all circumptances, and will fight for who she has become.
And when Daniello comes and messes with her dutifully ordered life, things won't go as planned.
I cannot tell you about Daniello because he will, himself, at his own pace, let you see who he is, but knowing him has a price and who knows if it will be worth it?

This story made me want to throw my Kindle, punch one or two characters, pull on my hair and scream at the whole world. But it also broke my heart, captivated me, and thinking about it now, a few days after having finished it, I realise I am in utter awe of Taylor. (and Kate Stewart but don't tell her)

Another great hit by Kate Stewart!!!

5 Steamy Stars

Kate Stewart blows my mind every time I finish one of her novels. She's versatile and doesn't pigeonhole herself into one specific genre in romance. When you pick up one of her stories, there is only one thing you can expect... an angsty, sexy story that will take you on an unforgettable journey. Expect the unexpected, always, she's not predictable and will take you through a plethora of emotions before you reach the final destination.

Crosshairs is the second book in the Predator and Prey duet. You should read Camouflage first as Crosshairs picks up where Camouflage ended.

Kate has dreamed up a badass heroine in Taylor and a alpha male Hero you hate to love... put them together and their chemistry is explosive.

This suspenseful adventure is complicated and filled with unpredictable twists and turns that will have you turning the pages as quick as you can until the very last page of the epilogue. Not to be missed!
