New victims. New betrayals. New secrets.

When Cassie Hobbes joined the FBI’s Naturals program, she had one goal: uncover the truth about her mother’s murder. But now, everything Cassie thought she knew about what happened that night has been called into question. Her mother is alive, and the people holding her captive are more powerful—and dangerous—than anything the Naturals have faced so far. As Cassie and the team work to uncover the secrets of a group that has been killing in secret for generations, they find themselves racing a ticking clock.

The bodies begin piling up, the deaths hit closer and closer to home, and it soon becomes apparent that this time, the Naturals aren’t just hunting serial killers.

They’re being hunted themselves.

I'm going to miss this series so much🥹🫶🏼💗 I still have the novella though so it's not a complete goodbye yet! As always I LOVE the characters, mystery, and plot twists. All In is still my fav in the series but this one was amazing too. And we got a new character in this book whom I already love!!

Also! This book made me really appreciate how cool Jennifer Lynn Barnes' writing is. The way Cassie is able to read people weaves in some really cool psychology. I know that's been happening the entire series but this book made me really appreciate the attention to detail Jennifer Lynn Barnes must have to write that.

𝅄 𓂃 𖥻 “Sometimes, the most dangerous people were the ones you trusted most.” 𑇛 ˚

after thoroughly enjoying the first three installments in The Naturals series and seeing how it kept improving with each book, i couldn’t help but look forward to this last installment and see what the author had in store for us. i had sky-high expectations for this book and i’m very happy to say that those expectations, for the most part, were met.

i’ve been saying since the first book that the author knows how to deliver stories that are unputdownable and just super easy to binge — and this one? this one is no different. i was hooked from beginning to the end. well, how could i not? Bad Blood is intriguing, thrilling and absolutely addictive. it truly has everything to hold your attention. trust me when i say this.

i genuinely think this is the wildest book in the entire series. things got darker and way more intense here, which was kind of expected after the previous book showed us the direction where the story was going, but still... i don’t think i was fully ready for some things that happened. when you compare this plot with the first book’s per example, you can definitely see the drastic difference. i mean, sure, the first book can be considered wild in some ways — but it’s not in the same level. not at all. it’s not a bad thing, though; the story has evolved significantly more and i really liked to see that (even if it made me feel a little scared and disturbed at certain times).

so many things about this book were enjoyable. the plot as a whole, the development of the characters, the found family aspect, the perfect pacing, the short but engaging chapters... but you know what i loved the *most*? the twists & turns and the suspense aspect.

if i had to pick a book in the series that had the best plot twists and the most engaging suspense, i would definitely choose this one. i was on the edge of my seat and biting my nails more times than i can count. everything was so intense and unpredictable — whenever i thought that i figured things out, the author would throw something unexpected [and insane!] and prove me wrong. it made for such an exciting experience.

however, even with all its strengths, i sadly can’t give this book a glowing five star rating. something about the ending just left me... a bit unsatisfied. see, i’m not saying it was bad, but it was definitely rushed, which i wasn’t a big fan of. i needed more details, more time to sit with everything that had happened, and a deeper exploration of specific events that happened. i genuinely believe this book could’ve benefited from more chapters. again, it was not a bad ending, i just wanted more than what was given and didn’t like how abrupt things felt.

all that being said, Bad Blood, in general, still delivers a good conclusion to a series that has been nothing but extremely captivating from the very beginning. JLB did an awesome job and she undoubtedly deserves praise for it.

this entire series has been such a fun ride. i won’t lie that my heart is broken to say goodbye to those characters and this universe... i’m really going to miss it. farewell, The Naturals.

Listen, the entire series and this last book was such an insane ride for sure. So many unexpected yet expected surprises happened here that led to inevitable danger and as always the naturals proved themselves in being able to handle it all.

I had more thoughts than theories here with the twists and turns this took as a lot happened and it kept me so on edge given how intense and somehow darker it became. I went through every emotion imaginable. one minute i was straight enjoying it, on an adrenaline kick, gasping, somehow sad and then sorta happy?? But now, I’m just sad it’s over.

“Home isn't a place. It's not having a bed to come home to, or a yard, or a Christmas tree at the holidays. Home is the people who love you.”

Adding this onto the list of yet another found family I grew to adore. I’m gonna miss everyone—yes even lia haha the growth was real. All the banter, all the profiling, the drama, truth or dare games etc. I already miss it all so much

“Sometimes, the hardest thing to be is the one who lives.” Dean ❤️

this one would’ve been completely 5 stars if it wasn’t for small minor things such as not getting enough answers from a specific person in how things transpired with them (maybe it’s just me) and the few scenes in the end with them all didn’t feel enough. However, each and every loose end from the previous books were tied up here and concluded so well with all the answers to my puzzling questions.

100% would always recommend this series. if anyone wants a fun YA take on what feels almost true to criminal minds—READ THIS. Yes, the concept of it seems a bit unrealistic but where would the fun be if it wasn’t!

I have heard of the unnecessary novella and don’t know when I’ll be reading that as I’m not ready to say goodbye but the ending to this definitely made me want more. Somehow I’m also hoping this is adapted as it read like it could be 🤞🏼

“sometimes, the hardest thing to be is the one who lives.” - Dean

my biggest fear when doing a jigsaw puzzle is that i’m going to have pieces missing at the end. so much build up, so many components, so much time… just for it to be incomplete.

i had the same fear going into book four, but this series is a 1,000 piece puzzle that wasn’t missing a. single. piece. i cannot even tell you how satisfying that is. 🧩

the fact that jennifer lynn barnes managed to tie up every lose end and bring everything together from all four books is downright impressive. (this also makes me want to read the inheritance games asap.)

my only gripe is that i wanted a few more domestic scenes because i love my Naturals so much, but i still thoroughly enjoyed this.

i am happy to see this series gaining traction because the found family, mystery, and mind games are so worth it! ❤️ (and don’t forget short chapters!!)

i’m going to miss these characters so much!

‘home isn’t a place, home is the people who love you most, the people who will always love you, forever and ever, no matter what’

Hello! It has been a hot minute since I read this book lmao, so I really don’t remember much, it wasn’t very remarkable! Since it is the final book in The Naturals series, I literally can’t say much, but this will be completely spoiler – free!!

I will explain what the series is about, the characters in general and then my final thoughts!

↳˗ˏˋ𝚙𝚕𝚘𝚝ˊˎ˗ ↴:

Cassie has a gift, she is able to make psychological profiles of people just by seeing how they behave, how they dress or how they move. One day she is recruited by the FBI to be part of the Naturals, a group of teenagers, who, like her, have a gift, for solving cold cases. But when a murderer begins to act in a way similar to her mother's murder case, Cassie and the rest of the Naturals' world will turn upside down.

↳˗ˏˋ𝚙𝚊𝚌𝚎 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚠𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐ˊˎ˗ ↴:

The pace of the book is very fast, things are happening all the time, and the author's writing is very fast and simple. The chapters are very short, which makes it easy to read.

↳˗ˏˋ𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚊𝚕 𝚝𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚜 ˊˎ˗ ↴:

The problem of this book in my opinion is that it is too unrealistic and chaotic, I was blinking and staring like a dumb bitch all the time, and I disconnected completely at the end, I just wanted to know how all ended and be done lol.

But, I would still recommend the series 100%, because for a early 2010’s, teenager drama with a love triangle trope, this is fire.

“Home isn't a place. Home is the people who love you. Forever and ever, no matter what.”

i applaud jennifer lynn barnes for the amount of time, effort, and research it must have took to create this book series. this literally felt like an episode of criminal minds (but YA) in the best way possible.

this might actually be a top series for me. and listen to me when i say this guys, THIS IS BETTER THAN THE INHERITANCE GAMES. let me say it louder for the bitches in the back, 🗣️INHERITANCE GAMES COULD NEVER🗣️. i thought i loved the inheritance games, but that series was only good up until the second book.

this series was able to keep me intrigued and guessing for 4 BOOKS STRAIGHT!!!! although i was able to guess some small details, but the amount of times she baffled me with a wild plot twist?? insane.

i do highly recommend this series to anyone AND everyone. if you love criminal minds, mystery w sub-plot romance, FOUND FAMILY, and literally anything fun you should enjoy this!

this is honestly a top-found family for me besides the crows, and the core six. i genuinely loved all the characters and all the storylines.

and highly recommended for this upcoming fall season as it def fits it well 😋

i tried to savour it… i rlly did. but i couldn’t 🤧

my edition has the novella at the back, so it made the book look 200 pages longer than it actually was… so i was preparing myself for a longer ending, but that didn’t happen so i was confused 🥲
anyways, the writing was absolutely amazing… i loved how everything was portrayed ( i also rlly enjoyed how this series had a POV from the murderers — it rlly made it super interesting XD )

the pacing worked perfectly for the story and the characters own my entire soul 🥺🫂 i rlly wish i could reach thru the pages and give each and every single one of them a hug…

that ending may have had me in tears…. im gonna miss this series 😔✋🏻

This book was absolutely insane… I kept saying “what the hell” & “this is crazy” (ᵕ•_•) every ten seconds. The rush of adrenaline I felt while reading it was indescribable 𓀡
I completely devoured this series, and I can’t recommend it enough!!

Trust me!! Add this to your TBR and read it. I swear you won’t regret it. The books just keep getting better from the first to the fourth. By the time you reach the fourth, you’ll be completely obsessed with the characters, the plot, the mystery, literally all of it.
I got chills, my heart was racing, and I couldn’t put it down. If you need a story that keeps you on edge and makes you feel everything, this is the one.

The romance might just be a subplot, but seriously, you’ll still find yourself smiling at every moment of it. But the ending? The actual plot? Absolutely INSANE. Literal chills.

By the end, you’ll be sitting there in shock, wondering how you didn’t pick this up sooner.

3.5 ⭐️

this book was just… okay. not terrible, but it didn’t give me that finale feeling i was hoping for. the pacing dragged in spots, and the case didn’t hold my attention like earlier ones. i wanted a little more from the story itself, but the characters? they carried.

cassie has been through so much and still managed to push forward. i’ve loved watching her journey throughout the series — she’s determined, sharp, and full of heart, even when she’s hanging on by a thread.

dean was so solid in this one. i loved how steady and supportive he was, especially with cassie. he never tried to fix her, just stood beside her through it all. we love a quiet, loyal king.

michael was really strong in this book. his loyalty to the group was clear, and even when things got messy, he kept showing up. his dynamic with cassie felt more grounded this time around, and i really liked how his character was handled overall.

sloane owns my heart. she’s clever, observant, and her loyalty to the group never wavers. every time she spoke, i was either smiling or emotional — she’s so underrated and so special.

lia really impressed me in this one. she had some standout moments, and her growth was subtle but noticeable. her sharpness was still there, but we got to see more warmth underneath.

I loved this book and truly enjoyed the entire ride. The case was so complex I couldn’t suspect anyone — they were all too obvious or too far off. I just had to wait till the end and feel the chaos unfold 😮‍💨

What I really appreciated was how this book gave us more of Michael early on, and then focused on Lia later — both of them were so powerful in their own way. Also, I surprisingly loved Celine! Her abilities were actually so useful in this one.
Cassie felt a bit selfish at the beginning, but hey, she’s still a teen with a ton on her shoulders.
Sloane? Brilliant and hilarious as always — the brain of the team and also the accidental comic relief 😭
And Dean finally started reacting to Michael’s teasing?? That was comedy gold 😂
Lia’s jealousy moments? Top-tier drama. Loved it. Their teenage energy was chaotic, messy, and so real — exactly what I came for.

Also, is it just me or did everyone in this series discover a secret sibling? 😂 I kept waiting for it to happen to Dean too… but let’s be real — with his father? Yeah, no way 😅

And can we talk about Briggs and Sterling for a second?? I’ve loved them since book one — they’re amazing together. I’m glad Briggs didn’t lose his edge, but seriously, those two better get remarried already 😤

The ending was bittersweet. Cassie’s story closed on a sad but meaningful note... Her idea of forming a team of Naturals hit hard. It honestly gave Marvel vibes — like she’s assembling a new generation of superpowered misfits. This NEEDS to be a TV series.❤️✨

In the end, I’m so glad I decided to continue the series. Funny how I almost stopped after book one back in March 😅 Now I’m already missing the whole crew. I’ll definitely read the novella — I’m not ready to let go just yet 💔

Here we go… final book. I’m not ready 😭❤️

⋅˚₊‧ ୨ my thoughts ୧ ‧₊˚ ⋅

Jennifer Lynn Barnes has done it again. honestly, she's a mastermind. I love how she gives us these little hints throughout a book, and it all falls perfectly in a place at the end. this series is the best one written by JLB (sorry tig, love you too) it managed to keep me entertained and invested all the way through. and the case that the naturals were working on in bad blood was my personal favorite! it was so interesting and intriguing on its own way, and I got so immersed in the story that it was literally impossible to put it down. it had me totally in a chokehold. furthermore, bad blood was such a good conclusion to this series, and I absolutely loved how the loose ends got tied up. I'll definitely miss this series and these wonderful characters so much 🥹

ᝰ.ᐟ Cassie Hobbes

she's an amazing fmc. a very likeable one! the amount of pain she goes through every time is insane. and you don't know how bad I felt for her throughout the entire book. she experienced so much AGAIN, and she didn't deserve none of this. tho, I'm happy for her that she finally got the answers to her questions. I adored the friendship that has been formed between Cassie and Lia, they are such a good duo!
✧₊⁺ "and I use knowing things about people as an excause to keep them from knowing me."
ᝰ.ᐟ Dean Redding

our golden boy. he hasn't healed from his trauma yet and probably never fully will. he struggles with so many problems of his own, and constantly fights his demons, and yet he's so supportive and caring when it comes to his friends. the way he was there for Cassie when she needed him, and the way he comforted her 🥹 his friendship with Lia is so adorable.
✧₊⁺ "I love you. Today, tomorrow, covered in blood, haunted and waking up in the middle of the night screaming — I love you, Cassie, and I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere."
ᝰ.ᐟ Sloane Tavish

our coffeine addicted girl, a ray of sunshine in other people's darkness. her obsession with numbers and statistics is what makes her so unique. honestly, I don't know what she's talking about for like most of the time, but she's such a lil nerd and I adore her for it. the naturals became to her a family she's never had. and also her friendship with Michael is so heartwarming and precious. ❤️‍🩹
✧₊⁺ "Are you okay?" Michael asked Sloane.
Sloane took three tiny, hesitant steps, then threw herself at Michael, latching her arms around his neck so tightly that I wasn’t sure she would ever let go.

✧₊⁺ "I thought you were fundamentally opposed to giving Sloane caffeine."
"I am. Most of the time. But you know what the song says: it's my three-day-long party, and I'll caffeinate my Sloane if I want to."
ᝰ.ᐟ Michael Townsend

hear me out: Dean is perfect for Cassie, but Michael is a better character.

his backstory is truly heartbreaking. if Thatcher Townsend has no haters then I'm dead. Michael himself has developed a lot throughout the entire series, and even though sometimes the things he says don't sit right with me (why on earth would he say this to Lia? 🥲), I still adore him. he's so funny, and always knows how to lighten up the atmosphere when it's clearly needed. him and Dean were genuinely hilarious in this one. I mean, yay, a miracle happened and Michael has grown on Dean! they're definitely besties now
✧₊⁺ "Do you like me?"
"You have your moments."
"What was that?"
"I don't have to like you. We're family."
"Bossom buddies."
ᝰ.ᐟ Lia Zhang
I wasn't the biggest fan of her in the previous books. she was pretty annoying, and at times she was just getting on my nerves. tho, with time she has definitely grown on me. she opened up a lot about her past, which helped me understand her so much better. Lia's backstory is terribly sad. nobody should go through something like this at such a young age. but due to her experiences she's incredibly strong now.
✧₊⁺ "I love you, Sadie."
It would be easier, for Lia, if that were a lie.

✧₊⁺ "I forgot what it was like to be special one moment and nothing the next."

unpopular opinion time

this may sound picky of me because it is but this was a solid 3.75. making it ... drumroll please ... my least favorite in the series!!

look, this wasn’t bad. i enjoyed it, it was entertaining, and it was the classic jlb fast-paced-short-chapters-ya-mystery i was looking for. the cast of characters is one of my favorites, ever.

HOWEVER

this dragged on WAY. TOO. MUCH. it wasn’t even that long - 373 pages - but it felt like 600. it literally felt like nothing happened until the last 50 pages (i’m aware this isn’t factual but it’s how it seemed).

it also doesn’t help that cassie is my least favorite character (is this controversial?), and the whole plot centered around her. i was very a little disappointed that we didn’t get more of lia’s story. quite honestly, i could not have cared less about cassie and her past!

my main problem with this, though, is the plot. i knew at the end of all in that i most likely wasn’t going to love this one, because i didn’t like the hint of the plot that we got then. for some reason the whole cult thing just didn’t appeal to me? add to that the fact that i was straight up confused for a good portion - not the best combination.

i will miss the series though! i adore these characters and the found family here, and the epilogue in this made my heart so happy. i wish we could’ve gotten more of celine, but u know. saving twelve for a day i long for these characters again.

my ratings for the series

bad blood: 3.75 ✰

Oh god, what a ride! The twists and turns, the shocking reveals, the persistent suspense… It all had me in a constant chokehold!
I don’t want to go into the specifics of the plot since I feel like it would give too much away, but I can honestly say I was insanely engrossed with this entire book! The narration flowed so easily while the story itself was mind-blowing enough to keep me on my toes throughout! This book definitely had me in its grip from beginning to end.

౿꒰ 🕯️ ⌗ my thoughts
well. okay. so i really did enjoy this. but! i have feelings. and i’m still figuring out what to do with them. this series has been such a fun time and this book gave a lot of what i wanted. but also? not everything. and i think that’s where i’m stuck.

first off? i’m sad. last book. end of the naturals. it’s weird because i waited literal years to start this series and now it’s already over?? but this was still good. it had the same vibe i’ve grown attached to. and the last 20%?? insane. that part delivered.

the rest of it… i don’t know. it’s not that anything was bad, but the structure felt kinda strange. like half the book is about something totally different before we even get to the plot we’ve been waiting for. and then when the big reveals do come, they’re somehow both shocking and not shocking at all? like yes, some things were absolutely wild. but others landed more like, “omg what?? okay anyway!” and then we’d just move on. i think that’s where the weirdness came from. this is the finale. the buildup has been four books long. so even though i liked where it went, i kept expecting a little more.

but! i still liked this a lot. i don’t know if i’m totally satisfied with this as the ending, but i’m really glad i read this series. it was such a good time.

౿꒰ 🗝️ ⌗ characters
cassandra “cassie” hobbes.
her memory is so bad it’s actually kinda relatable. she’s still going through it but she’s trying her best. i’m glad she got to wrap up her story even if the closure felt a little quick.

dean redding.
he was great. he’s always great. and he continues to be the most normal person in the house while also having the worst backstory. like he’s just chill. i genuinely don’t have more to say because he never misses.

michael townsend.
he was not okay this book. and i get it! he was going through it. but some of his choices?? yeah… didn’t love. i still think he’s a really strong character, though. also. the celine stuff especially was… not great.

lia zhang + sloane tavish.
lia might’ve actually been my favorite this time? i liked her in the last book but she was great here. it took me like two books to warm up to her but i do like her now. sloane was great too (as always) and i lowkey wish we got more of her with celine. there was so much potential there and we barely got anything.

౿꒰ 🔗 ⌗ romance
very background this time around. which isn’t unusual for this series, but it was definitely even less present here. the dynamic is still there and still feels nice, but romance wasn’t the focus at all. not mad about it! just kinda wished for one moment near the end to wrap it up better.

౿꒰ 🧿 ⌗ extras
⊹ sloane and the blowtorch.
⊹ creepy little interludes from the killer’s pov will always work.
⊹ sloane and celine deserved a whole subplot.

౿꒰ ⚖️ ⌗ overall
as a series finale… i’m still kinda undecided on it. but as a book? this was such a good time. wild, unhinged, and full of insane shit. this series has been a favorite and even though i wanted more from the ending, i’m really glad i read it all the way through.

4.5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I love you.” Dean lifted the words from my mind. “Today, tomorrow, covered in blood, haunted and waking up in the middle of the night screaming - I love you, Cassie, and I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere.”🥹🥹

Where do I even start with this series?!😭 I’m so upset that it’s over 😢 I loved this series so much. This series honestly has everything; romance, humour, twists and turns and it made me cry. I love all of the characters so much and don’t feel ready to say goodbye to them.

This was such a good ending to the series. It really did tie everything up and the story came to a satisfying ending. This series has been an absolute rollercoaster of twists and turns and it keeps you guessing throughout. I did think the ending was slightly predictable but I still enjoyed it. My only negative of this book and why it’s not a 5 star is the abrupt ending!! I wanted more of the characters and to see what happened next 😭 I wanted more Cassie, Dean, Michael, Sloane and Lia🥺

Review incoming 😭😢💔

no cuz idk why I thought the end was gonna be all rainbow and kitties lol 😆 It wasn’t that sad but it wasn’t that happy either. It was great tho bc the plot twists were FIREEEE as usual. I was almost crying when Briggs got to Cassie but it was like 2 seconds late to save her mom 😭😭

I really thought Cassie would have a happy ending with her mom yk, so it was truly heartbreaking when they had to “fight” 😭

➳ edit: had to lower it a bit

《-- my thoughts --》

I have mixed emotions on this one. I liked it, but I was expecting more. It was underwhelming in a way. Maybe that’s on me because after the ending of the third I set expectations that might’ve been too high. I still enjoyed the overall vibe and being back with these characters but I wasn’t eager to turn the page and see what was going to happen next.

“Sometimes, the serial killer across from you quoted Shakespeare. Sometimes, the most dangerous people were the ones you trusted most.”

《-- plot --》

In the beginning there’s a whole plot that I thought was a bit pointless. It felt like the author put it there so we could experience Michael’s relationship with his dad. It felt kind of forced in a way.

“Sometimes, the hardest thing to be is the one who lives.”

And the overall plot was a bit boring and simplistic at times. There wasn’t much significant stuff happening or the way it was being written didn’t push me enough to be turning the page. Also, it became so confusing. Especially because of the sudden wave of new characters. So many names, so much past and present info being thrown was overwhelming in a way that became confusing and unclear. Oh and everyone was easily connected to everyone and everything. A little lazy if you ask me, especially given it’s the final book. There were still elements of surprise that kept the plot entertaining enough to keep me reading though.

“Every empire needs its queen.”

《-- characters --》

The characters as always were the best part, no doubt! I love their dynamic together! They’re just so fun. There were such precious moments that melted my heart like the moment Lia and Sloane shared or seeing Michael and Dean support each other in their own way. I do wish we had some more moments with some characters and that some dynamics were wrapped up better in the end.

《-- final thoughts --》

I really enjoyed the series overall and I would recommend even though I was expecting more of the plot not gonna lie. But it’s a really good ya mystery series, that’s simple, quick and hooks you from the beginning with its plot and compelling characters. I am going to miss these characters and their interactions so much! Still have the novella though, I don’t know what to expect from that.

Not sure on the rating yet. I really enjoyed it, though there were some things that I was expecting a bit more.

It's not a series finale if something doesn't fuck you up and/or you don't cry at least ONE point.
My feelings will be bared soon!

guuuuuys, there's a synopsis and I am so excited and scared to read this.
I dread and await—but mostly await—November.
(Which is so late cmon)
---
IM FUCKING PANICKING WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THE TITLE AND THE COVER OUT IT'S SO PRETTY OH MY GOD
---
Is unknown the title? I can't tell. I want to believe it is though.
(eta: okay I believe it now.)
(eta (AGAIN) that UNKNOWN WAS NOT THE TITLE and this is EXACTLY WHY I DIDN'T BELIEVE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE)
