In Because of a Woman, Malanda struggles with vulnerability and fights love at every angle due to a failure to reciprocate. His fear of commitment doesn’t allow him to settle in one place until he loses everything.
Whether it’s lost love, finding yourself or seeking companionship in lonely places ― this is for you.
Delivered with witty metaphors, Malanda allows for his readers to embark on a journey with him. Every page is a layer of truth as he fights to understand himself and his counterparts redefining what it is to be a man in a ‘stoic-male’ society.
I had expected to LOVE this book but I didn't. Did I like it? Sure, but then again I've been following this poet on Twitter, IG, & tumblr over the last couple of years. I had a hard time connecting with some of his works. Sometimes I felt like another person was speaking instead of the author but what really bugged the day lights out of me...no capitalizations!!! I had a very had time with that. Besides that, I enjoyed most of the book. My favorite story was Kai and Kayla.
I loved Jean-Claude in his Instagram and Twitter which translated to me loving the shorter bits of his book. I did feel a bit of a disconnect, however, with the longer sections. I wholeheartedly admire the way the words work together.
A few weeks after finishing this book, I re-read it. Malanda's poetry fully awakens my mind and feeds my soul. I can never get enough of his words. So beautiful and raw. If you have yet to explore some of malandas work, start here.
This is a different type of poetry that I haven't read before, but it speaks to you in a different tone/way that is soothing and you can take something from it. It's raw and pure. I like it. Malanda speaks of realness whether it's in his book or on twitter.
