Runaway teenager Lilly Lessard has some secrets. For a start, that’s not her real name and she wants to keep her real age on the down-low too. Bumping into ex-hitman Bobby at a small town film festival is no coincidence either. She’s tracked him here. He owes her money and she’s desperate enough to come looking for it.

And she’s not

Wow!! I can not believe this is Lissa Pelzer's debut novel this is the first book in the Carol Ann Baker series ( who shares the same middle and end names has me by the way) And what a page turner it is to, I devoured this in one sitting I just couldn't put it down.

Runaway teenager Lilly Lessard is the main character who has some secrets. First of all that's not her real name. And she keeps her age very low key. Then lilly tracks her ex-hitman Bobby down. after he owes her money.but she’s not the

This is a crime thriller/mystery with the more traditional feel. The plot itself is simple enough--a young woman wants to hunt down a man from her past to retrieve her money while a cop is hunting him own for his crimes--but it explodes into a layers of intrigue with interesting characters coming in at all the right times.

The book starts out with Lilly. She's a run-away teen who's gotten herself into a bit of a mess in the darker side of Las Vegas. She's spunky, witty and a real treat to follow.

Desperate, impulsive and self-centered are just a few adjectives that comes to mind regarding Lilley / Carol Ann. Not completely convinced if the streets made her that way or it's just her nature. Reading No More Birthdays put me in the mind set of Pretty Little Liars, where I was thinking if you just tell the truth and stop doing things on impulse things could get better. If that was to happen, unfortunately there would not be a story.

Runaway teen, Lilly is a complete trainwreck. On the trail

Lilly is unreliable and selfish but she's got a few surprises up her sleeve. She's come to find Bobby her ex for money he owes her. But she's not alone in the quest for Bobby. Detective Davis is a tenacious woman ; she's out of her jurisdiction and on "holiday" coincidentally in the same small city. Lilly has secrets but don't we all...but will Lilly's secrets get her into trouble or worse?

I really wanted to enjoy this book after reading a rave review on a friends blog and the synopsis really ap

In this first series of the Carol Ann Baker Crime Series, we follow Carol Ann, AKA Lilly. We get some really huge hints and snippets about what her life has been like. It sure isn't pretty. We see some really great things that are out there for her, if she has the nerve to go after them. We also see some really tragic things that have happened and that drive her to where we find her today. I thought this book was going to be different from what it was, but it was a very interesting read and I go ...more

The tagline goes:

Runaway teenager Lilly Lessard has some secrets. For a start, that’s not her real name and she wants to keep her real age on the down-low too. Bumping into ex-hitman Bobby at a small town film festival is no coincidence either. She’s tracked him here. He owes her money and she’s desperate enough to come looking for it.

But this doesn’t sum up this gripping, page-turner of a novel. Both darkly modern in the style of the scandi- thrillers and strangely oldly worldly as in the detec

As a book blogger, I occasionally agree to read and review books 'blind' - in other words, without learning a little more about the book beforehand. This was one of those cases. And I soon discovered that No More Birthdays was certainly not the kind of book I would ordinarily read. I like books to be a little uplifting, with some humour perhaps. This contained nothing like that, however. It is by and large a very dark and quite a disturbing read. To be honest I felt rather down after I finished ...more

I'm really glad I read this book. This is one of those stories that all girls under 21 should read if they want to know how it really is. Lilly is a runaway who thinks by looking beautiful, she can wrap this old guy around her little finger, but in the end, she wises up and sees the world for how it really is. Yes, there are men out there who want to give you money, but what they want in return just isn't worth it! Lilly learns this the hard way. But because she learns to be less trusting, her c ...more

This book doesn’t have nice characters. Meaning they truly aren’t nice. there is no happy ending only sadness and dark mistakes for the characters. Each is mired in their own hellish nightmare. Lilly most of all. If you are looking for a sweet kind girl she is not it. She is hard and tough. But also lost and really really making bad choices.

When Lilly could have changed her fate she makes a wrong choice and goes down a very dark rabbit hole. Her life will not get better but always be one of look

Lilly Lessard has a lot of secrets; you know lots of things she wants to keep hidden. I won’t tell you all her secrets cause well you know that is her story to tell not mine. But I will tell you a little bit about Lilly like that is not her real name and that she is a runaway. Yeah she is just a teenage girl who has followed her “Gentleman” as we may describe him but to Lilly he is just her friend to Florida to ask him for the money he owns her.

Bobby who is Lilly’s “Gentleman” friend took Lilly

Excellently written, dark and mysterious, No More Birthday is will keep you guessing until the end and what a doozy the ending is!

Lilly is a runaway with no sense of self. She keeps putting herself into these situations that aren’t exactly smart. She is chasing after someone from her past and ends up in a town with almost no money, no job and no place to stay. To be fair, Lilly (formerly Carol Ann) hasn’t exactly had the best life. Someone stole money from her and she wants back what

My first thought with this book was -this is not a crime novel. Although there was a crime and this is dark and disturbing in parts, it is only really referred to. There is no detective, or trail as such. The book is mostly about Lily (Carol Ann) and her getting away from her past and growing up. That said it was still entertaining but not the novel that I had envisaged reading. Lily comes across as a rough diamond and her character is sharp in some ways, naive in others and this is well portray ...more

I just read the second one so had to write a review for the first, now that I see it is going places. Tight writing, well plotted, seriously dark noir. Well worth the 5 hours it took me to buzz through it!
