Holy shit. Gritty, raw and chokingly real, Fields delivers an emotional and angst ridden novel that drums right into your heart and soul. River is flawed. Hurt. Tormented. He’s an addict but, as most addicts do, he doesn’t truly recognize the level of his problem. There’s a reason for his addiction – for his desire to escape the world surrounding him – for wanting to check out of reality and bask in the bliss of the drug. He’s fighting so hard to forget the past that he almost misses out on his future.
Keanna is one strong as fuck woman. She works at an addiction center, but ironically that’s not where she meets River. There’s something that pulls them to each other, like magnets of lust; but then there’s something more than keeps them near one another even while River is self destructing in her face. However, don’t be concerned. Keanna doesn’t let River walk all over her and especially doesn’t let his addiction be ignored.
There’s so much EMOTION in this book. It deals with real issues and real people and their real reactions to them. This is why MJ is so popular and why her books will continue to sell phenomenally well – she manages to hook the reader in with the purity of the story, giving them the closest look into the truths of the darkest moments in her characters’ lives.
This was my first Fields novel, but it won’t be my last – this book isn’t glossy or fluffy but rather a rough and fierce look at believable characters who are beautifully flawed. 5 stars!

I could just kick myself for not reading any of this series before. I have them sitting on my kindle, just haven't made the time. That's changing right now! This book was freaking terrific!
River is the ultimate tortured hero. He deflects the pain inside onto everyone else around him, especially his closest friends. He feels responsible for the death of the only girl he ever possibly loved...a girl his very best friend also loved. An accident that keeps him from being able to play the drums uncovers all of these long kept secrets and he drowns himself in drugs and women just trying to maintain a numbness that will keep him from dealing with the guilt, pain, and regret. It's affecting his life in every aspect and he's heading to rock bottom FAST.
Keanna just got out of a bad relationship and the last thing she needs is someone else who's going to hurt her. But it's obvious shortly after hooking up with River that he WILL hurt her...he's too lost in himself to care about anyone else. She sees the pain in his eyes and can't help but want to save him, so she backs things up and decides to be his friend because he so desperately needs one. River's so messed up he can't even be a good friend until he gets himself clean and on a good path.
Keanna's the first reason he's had in a long while to try and better himself. She ends up being just the motivation he needs.
One of my favorite parts of this book? It's insanely sexy. River has quite the dirty mouth and it's no wonder Keanna has a hard time denying him. I'd be dropping my panties too if he said those kinds of things to me! A book with dirty hot sex AND a real love story, what more can you ask for?

If you follow my reviews, you'll notice that I have an addiction to Kai and Wen as narrators. They are magical together and they've done an amazing job with this series.
Where do I begin with River James? We already know he's all sorts of fucked up--if only because he stays that way in the first two books. But there has to be more to him than that, right?
The answer is yes. Yes, there is so much more to our River that he very quickly jumped to the top of my STD favorites. Yes, River James is better than Finn Beckett. I know why Jessie was drawn to him all those years ago. I also know how she broke our River.
There's so much darkness and sadness in this book--in River's life--that I am not surprised that he chose to self-medicate. It's also not surprising that he has been in a downward spiral for the majority of his life.
So, what makes Keanna special? What sets her apart from the other women he's been with? What makes her stick around?
Let me just say that what these two have is beautiful, what they go through is tough, but they are perfect for each other. Keanna is the perfect counterpart to River. She is strong and tough and everything he needs to better himself.
Want to see this broken man come to life? Then read--or listen--to River James.

Way to go River!!!
While I didn’t care for him much in Finn, he really changed my option of him in this book. I wanted to cry for the little boy who lost so much and hold him while he fought his inner demons as a man. I was a little apprehensive going into this book as I didn’t know how MJ Fields would spin River's story. I was completely blown away this book. Mostly by how much pain and suffering River had to endure as a child. No person should have to live through the hell he did.
Keanne, Wow what a strong determined woman she is. She was a great choice for River’s love interest. Its not very often that I read books with strong women in them. It always seems like they are meek and timid which Keanne is anything but that. And Tink. Loved the interactions between River and her.
I absolutely love MJ, she is an amazing writer and every story just gets better and better. She will completely captive you from the very first page.

First of all I have had to ask for forgiveness from my other Steel Crushes as I fell in love with River James.
Ms.Fields never disappoints. River James is a broken, dirty mouthed, hot as all hell drummer for the band STD (Steel Total Distruction). After an horrific accident his carreer hangs in the balance and the past won't stay in the past. He has ways to help him forget but they are only temporary. After a brief lets just call it an encounter with someone he didn't know was going to turn his life around in the physical therapy waiting room. Can she truly help him leave his ghosts in the past?
Keanna Sutton strong, indepentant woman who exudes confidence is second guessing it after she meets the drummer of STD. Will he truly change or will he rip her heart out?

In no way was it bad, not at all. The story grabbed me from the very beginning. The premise of the book is about two lost souls that, somehow, find a way to find a way to come together which isn't conventional at all.
Along with his addiction problems, River has a filthy, talking mouth and he tends to isolate himself from people. As well as being seductive, it was entertaining at times due to his crassness and lack of apology.
Though he was afflicted by addiction and abuse, he had a soft side he tends to hide. In contrast, Keanna was a breath of fresh air and I could sense the chemistry between the two of them. It was strong, and they had a mutual regard for one another.
Their relationship had my total support and backing. They engaged each other in energetic interactions, and their correspondence was powerful.
However, I do have one complaint. It was sometimes difficult for me to follow the back story of River, but it was nevertheless engaging. Due to the fact it's a series, I was at times lost with all the characters' names and the info dump.
In spite of all this, it was a very easy book to devour and I did so wish there was more to come.

River James - drummer, addict, man-whore, wild man extraordinaire. After his accident he could really give a flying F*** about what was going on around him. Losing his best friend once the secrets of the past come to light. Losing his job with a bum wrist and now...well lets just say he is a lost soul. Until Keanna Sutton happens upon him while waiting to start his physical therapy. She's not his usual type, but there is something about this sassy, smart mouthed girl that really gets him going.
River and Keanna were explosive together. They both fell hard and fast, even when it was not what each of them was looking for. Keanna was falling for the filthy mouth, sexy as hell drummer but she knew that he had demons that as much as she tried, she wouldn't be able to help him exercise.
This book is not a warm and fuzzy love story. It has its moment of levity but all the whole it is a darker romance. A lot of drug use, sex and filthy mouths. So if any of those are triggers for you, you might want to skip this book. I love this series and I have been waiting for the torturous River James to have his day and couldn't have been happier to see him finally get his HEA. Each of the book is this series can be read as a stand alone but as always - I recommend the entire series.

I think I'm giving up on this series. The first 25% was so hard to get into. The character dump from the author's past series just gets old. The next 25% made me yawn.
I do not feel the chemistry with the H/h. And frankly, that's all on the author and the MC's issues. They just didn't feel like a likely couple. The h never felt authentic and the H just wasn't lovable.
Not sure about OW/OM, I gave up midway. BWWM.

OMG! I lmfao throughout this book. Hilarious! I love River! I couldn't believe half the things that came out of his mouth (no filter whatsoever!). He was crass, crazy, and whoa, don't get on his bad side, because you might eat dog poop...literally. lmao!

Hot, steamy, passionate, sexy, and heartbreaking. MJ’s stories grip you from the first page sucking you into the story until the very end. The story has laughs, pain, secrets, suspense, betrayal, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first

Finn Beckett (The Rockers of Steel #2)
This is Keanna and River’s story. River has been drowning his past in drugs and women. When he meets Keanna he wants her but is determined to only have one night. When he needs to see her after sneaking out of her place he does not know what to say. When she needs someone to take her dog after it gets into trouble he volunteers. Now he has her dog but is still determined to keep her at a distance. But when she is around he realizes that she keeps him sane. What happens when he slips falls off the wagon will she leave him? Can he ever get her back? Keanna knows all about users and will never be with a user. She needs the person she is with to be clean. Can River prove he is over his past and able to stay clean in order to get Keanna back? Will she even want him back?
I loved these characters and also the side characters. Was great to read a little about the Steel brothers in this story I miss them. I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I recommend this story, this series, and anything this author writes.

I received a copy of River James by M.J. Fields in exchange for an honest review.
I can not even begin to tell you just how amazing River James is. M.J. Fields has really written a fantastic book that has you falling in love with with one of the biggest jerks on the planet. However, River's backstory will have you reaching for the tissues and you will be begging for a HEA for this Hot Alpha Bad boy.
Keanna is a wonderful heroine and she really has the most perfect attributes. She has overcome her obstacles with grace and a fiery determination. She allows herself to love but she keeps her strong sense of independence.
I completely devoured this book and my emotions were up and down like a yoyo all the way through this bewitching story. It's fantastic to see the characters I loved from the previous books and also have a glimpse into whats coming next.
I really do recommend this book and it is now a favourite of mine for the new adult genre.

I wasn't expecting good things from this book, not only was there a warning in the beginning of the book to tell us what a jerk River James is but he was a complete douche most of he time in the previous stories!! There is something definitely wrong with me though since I have to say I loved River. He was a total d!ck for about 80% of this story but there was just something about him that drew me in.
Keanna was a good heroine but I really think River stole the show, well him and Tink!! I loved Tink also, the bond she created with River was so nice to read about.
This book wasn't what I was expecting! It blew everything I thought it would be out of the water and left me feeling sad that it's ended.
I'm looking forward to reading Billy's story next. I can't wait to hear what his secret is!

I couldn't wait to read River's book and I wasn't disappointed at all. River is a character that you root for and want him to have his HEA. With his rocker career on hold after the accident River wants to shut everyone out and just get lost In his high. When he meets Keanna he knows that she is different then any woman he has been with. They both have past's and need each other more then they like to admit. Every time I read this series I would crack up laughing with what comes out of there mouths and the sex is HOT. Another amazing story and can't wait for more STD.

I just don't know how she does it??? How does MJ write a story that grabs you at the beginning and you can't let go until the emotional rollercoaster is over. River was everything she promised. A very unlikely hero, but you really pull for him to beat his demons. Keana walks that thin line of helping and not enabling while still healing herself. She is a strong character and I loved her strength and vulnerability. They both end up helping each other. Another great story from MJ Fields!!!!

Wow that was such a emotional read for me, I truly felt Rivers pain that he carried for way to long. River will make you hate him so much one minute and then you will fall so in love with him the next! I can't wait for so much more ❤️ if you haven't read #River yet you need to now.

River was a hot mess, his childhood was awful and painful. His band was the most important thing to him and Finn. But he and Finn shared a painful secret way back from their teens. It actually almost destroyed their friendship and the band. But he and Keanna became a thing and love soon followed. This story had a lot of sadness, struggles and truths that had to be told. The story was pretty good and I’m giving it four stars, recommend it. Now it’s on to Billy in book four.

I knew I was going to love River's story and loved it so much more than I thought possible. River has always been my favorite STD member. Hi comic relief has always been so entertaining but learning more about him and seeing him get his HEA was awesome!!!!
My poor River. After reading his story, it becomes so apparent how his humor and sarcasm is to cover so much of the pain that River has lived with for so many years. My heart broke for him. He was such an amazing guy, but because of his experiences from such a young age, he couldn’t see it. He wanted to play his drums and numb his life with whatever means he had available. Not only do we get a glimpse of his younger years, we also get more details behind the issue between him and his best friend, Finn, which was brought to light at the end of Finn’s story. Throughout the story, not only is he fighting with his demons, but he’s treading a thin line…at least what’s left of his friendship with Finn.
Keanna is a strong, confident woman (at least that’s what she’s been working hard to strive for) and gets the typical first impression anyone would get when they meet River. He’s a typical, cocky rockstar…but his confidence and blatant sexual attitude toward her made her tingle in all her naughty bits. Shoot, I couldn’t help but be curious myself. He’s funny and blasé about so much, but the more time she spends with him, the more she sees that there is so much to River that no one knows and she wants to help him. Not necessarily save him, but help him save himself. She gave him a strength he needed to overcome a horrific past that has plagued him with nightmares for so long that it’s been the cause for his constant self-medicating behavior. Keanna was an amazingly strong character and was exactly what River needed to find the peace he needed. She didn’t war with him about what he was dealing with. She told him how it was and left it to him to fix.
M.N. Forgy did an outstanding job of discussing topics that were dark and sad, but delivering it in a way that the story didn’t get weighed down. She managed to write a serious book, with important topics but in a way that maintained the lightness we get in a Forever Steel/Forever Four themed story. The guys of Steel Total Destruction round out the story with wonderful personalities that you can’t help but enjoy more and more as you meet them in the series.

This is book three in The Rockers of Steel by MJ Fields. I was really excited to read River’s book and find out what made him who he is now.
River is in a fucked up place with what happened between him and Finn. The hate River has for Finn had me speechless. Everyone around him could see the anger and hurt he was going through. With River, instead of talking about his issues, he used drugs and sex as a way of coping with his own issues. Then we meet Keanna, who is dealing with her own personal issues. Issues she struggles with every day. These two together are on FIRE like nothing else.

“The lost look in his eyes is almost more than I can take after hearing blood-curdling cry while he slept. I want to make it go away.”
I truly loved River’s dirty talk, it is hot and he doesn’t care what anyone thinks about it. He so relaxed at times but you could feel his daily struggles. What he went through as a kid made him who he is today. With River it was all about sex, drugs and not having a care in the world. Finally dealing with what happened between him, Finn & Jesse, he realizes that he was angry at something he had no control over in the end. I freaking LOVED River and Keanna they both dealing with their own issues, but together they were on amazing. I felt the pain Keanna has trying to help River, but he was way too far gone to be helped.

This book has a fantastic storyline and some really GREAT sex scenes. What I loved most was the drama and this being a story about moving forward from the past and making a fresh start. MJ Fields does an amazing job with this book and I can’t wait to read Billy’s story. You’ll love this story as much as I did. You’ll want to throw something and I’m not going to lie, I did cry. Sometimes when a story affects you so much or you’ve gone through something like the characters you feel the pain and the sadness they are feeling. STD is back in the house!! The chart topping band discovered by Xavier Steel is reeling from the damage done to their drummer, River James, in a car accident. River’s surly attitude does not help as the guys try and encourage him to do his rehab so he can get back and play.
River James is one messed up dude. The author lays out all the trigger warnings and crude personality traits before the book even begins. He is crass, unfiltered and interacts with women only long enough to get the piece of a$$ he wants and then he is on his way. He is an addict and he has been abused. Sex. Drugs. Rock n Roll. He epitomizes the Rock Star lifestyle. None of this so far sounds like a redeeming character, right? A chance encounter with sassy nurse Keanna Sutton and her equally sassy dog Tink, and River James begins to re-think his ways.
Keanna is a very strong female lead. She is cautious of her heart but yet knows how to rein River in. I cheered when she decided she would be a better friend than lover for River. He is a man who desperately needs someone to care about him without getting anything in return. Keanna figures him out pretty quickly and holds out until there is some trust built between the two of them. In the meanwhile, she learns what drives River’s demons.
There are some hilarious lol moments. Actually a good chunk of snort out loud laughing occurred during reading this book! As I said—no filter on that bad boy mouth of River’s. The interaction between River and Tink is priceless! I really think that Tink became the turning point for River. He began to care again and thus began to heal.
No doubt, Keanna also played a role in the redemption of River James. The two of them together are explosive and super-HOT! Together, they both heal from their past and plan a future where there is less pain, less addiction and more love. Finn is still my number one STD member, but River is worth the read. Loved the epilogue! Looking forward to finishing up the series with gentile Billy’s story. Great sneak peek at his book as well.

River is a hot mess. I mean like REALLY HOT MESS!! He is so lost in his head over circumstances that he feels defines him as a person/man when in actuality they were circumstances he couldn’t stop or help. But these instances make River feel that he is undeserving and less then when in fact he is more than any woman could hope to have IF she is strong enough to deal with is “headmess”.
Keanna is a strong woman. She is bold, confident and also a silent mess. She has decided to take a stand and not let any man let her fee less then she is. When a chance meeting of her and River leaves her stunned at him yet excited by him she is glad she won’t see him again ooorrrr will she……Chance meeting number 2 leaves her and River exploring new options with one another…wink wink……I loved her strong sense of self yet her calming effect she has on River. He is freaked but yet so is she. They are able to understand and push one another’s boundaries so well.
Now don’t get me wrong, River is a complete DOUCHE BAG but Keanna calls him on it and still wants to be there for him…be his one true friend. There were times when I wanted Keanna to dump him and hang with Billy or better yet have her nut punch him because of his self-destructive ways. Yet River always knew Keanna would be there not because she is a needy and pathetic chick but because she truly cares for him like no one has before.
Finn, Sweet Baby Daddy Finn and River have to face the past. They both need to heal and move forward from She Who Shall Not Be Named. They both have different versions of the past but thankfully Finn is able to make River see the real story and not the messed up version he has in his head regarding her death.
The final chapters of the book….omg so so much love and commitment but strength is admitting those fears and facing life together one day at a time.

I love this author. She is amazing and writes pure genius. From the very first book, I was hooked. Every book I have read since has been nothing short of perfection. She writes strong heroines who we can relate too and sexy alpha males who make you swoon and should come with a panty-warning.
Each book she writes flawlessly and gives us a masterpiece that sticks with us long after its over. You will laugh, cry, swoon, smile, laugh and definitely fall in love. While I love the Men of Steel series, this is quickly becoming my next favorite series with her kiss-a$$ heroines and edgy rockers.
This book was absolutely amazing. It was passionate, angsty, sexy, steamy, and had one bad boy drummer who will make you swoon and fall hard. This was an intense read and I devoured it one time. MJ gave me a story that put me through an emotional roller coaster that was worth it by the end.
I am a total sucker for a rock star romance. They are gritty, raw and take everything to the next level. When I read MJ's books, it is like stepping into a world that I don't want to leave. And River... get ready ladies because he is going to rock your world. I promise you will be begging for this STD!
This is River and Keanna's story. Full of complication and drama, these two have quite a road ahead of them. River is damaged and uses sex and drugs as his outlet. But Keanna is different. Moving on from his past is going to be hard. Can Keanna be the key to his redemption and happy ending?
Oh River... you sweet, foolish, damaged, man who made my heart bleed and race. This man was completely imperfect but so amazing that I couldn't help but find myself rooting for him. These two have tons of bumps and hurdles to cross... but the hardest roads often lead to the best happy endings.
This book is probably the best in this series to date. Sure I think that after every book but River was special to me. While reading Keanna and River's story, I was on the bi-polar emotional train until the last word. I laughed. I cried. I smiled. I swooned. I got angry. But all of it was worth it by the end.

Wow!!!! I'm hooked I'm in love and I'm cheating on Finn, I'm sorry but I can't stress enough how much River worked my heart and grabbed me hook line and sinker.
MJ Fields you are brilliant, every book I read of yours grabs me and doesn't let me go and let me tell you this book is definitely my favorite. I was so hesitant about River in previous books , I didn't know how to read him but my heart broke for him learning what he endured in his past and how he survived now we know and see why he dealt with life the way he did and also on top of this his accident that halts his playing and the hate he held in for his best friend Finn wow just wow you really need to read this and feel really feel I cried for River I also wanted to b**** slap , him and yes I laughed so hard at things he does and says with that no filter to brain mouth of his and let's not forget that hot as sin filthy dirty sexy talk omgggg swoon.
Keanna Sutton is a beautiful and determined girl just out if a bad relationship when she meets this sexy dirty mouth drummer and her life is turned upside down in an instant. Determined to be strong but like River she is dealing with a past together these two are on fire but Keanna is strong she will not let River bring her down and watching these two work towards moving forward is a journey like no other, MJ you were right on spot when you paired these two together there isn't two more suited for each other.
I can't recommend this book enough I'm hooked I love the guys from STD and it was great how we get to read about them in here and now I'm greedy for more bring on Billy cause I know we will be in for another treat.

This is book #3 in The Rockers of Steel Series.
I gave this book 5 stars.
Yes, it can be read as a stand alone, BUT these books are about a group of men that are in all of the books.. SO I recommend that you read from book one.
River James. What can you say about this man? He is a tainted soul, he is bruised, battered and damaged in every way that they come, but River is perfection.. Once he lets you in, you'll never be the same. He does everything 150%.. He is bad ass. He loves hard, he gives hard and he expects all of that in return!
Keanna is his perfect match. Someone who will take the time to get to know River for who he really is, give him that chance, but not get taken advantage of in the process.. River thinks the world owes him, Keanna well she lets him no in no uncertain terms nope you have met your match River.
I couldn't get enough of this book. I wanted more and more... Yes, I am a huge fan of MJ Fields love her books, but she outdid her self on this one.. I always say that, but this book is beyond any of her other work.. It is by far my favorite.. AND I can say over and over that her characters are my favorite, BUT River stands out! He is and always will be my favorite.. I don't know how she is going to surpass this man.

Keeana Sutton has just come out of a relationship and is determined to be the strong independent woman her Grandmother raised her to be focusing on her job and making new friendships but a nightout with friends has her running into the sexy bad boy that is River James.
These two take us on a journey of highs, lows, love, destruction, laugh out loud moments and lets not forget Rivers filthy mouth you wont believe your ears, we also get to hear from the rest of STD and of cause no MJ book is complete without Momma Joe so that's where I leave it with my heart being torn between these sexy guys of STD, Memphis Black held it first then Finn Beckett came along and stole his spot but now we have River James and its beating all over the place.
I personally cannot wait to read these again whilst we wait for Billy's story, I'm sure my heart will be breaking all over gain when we get this but MJ certainly gives us books that keep us returning for more.

MJ Fields has given us yet another fantastic read with her next installment in the Rockers of Steele Series and this time its the drummer's story.
River James is what life as a sexy bad boy rocker is all about, always chasing the next high and always moving on to the next groupie. He is full of anger and hurt and he lashes out at whoever is closest.....
Keeana Sutton has just come out of a bad relationship, joined the gym and is determined to become the strong independent woman her grandmother raised.

I loved that the rest of STD are involved in thus story and no MJ Fields book is complete without a visit from Momma Joe
This book had me wondering could we ever get a HEA for this bad boy , its certainly an emotional rollercoaster ride but its a ride I was glad to have got on........ And lets not forget Tinker Bell who stole the show with her funny loveable moments.
Can't wait for Billy's story.

MJ Fields has given us yet another fantastic read with her next installment in the Rockers of Steele Series and this time its the drummer's story.

MJ Fields was once again brings us back into the lives of the band STD and we finally get to see and experience the life of its out of control drummer River James. River James is all about the life of a rock star the next high the next groupie but what we really get to see is the life behind the mask that he wears. When we last saw River he is recovering from a crash where many past secrets are revealed and all that pain finally comes to a head but what he doesn't expect is to meet one person who can help him through it all.
