When iridescent summer nights fade into sullen autumn gray, as the world marches grimly towards the slow, cold death of winter, something changes.

Dark spirits strengthen, emboldened by lengthening shadows and huddled masses. The sunshine of youth once kept these phantoms at bay, but the doors to my soul creak slowly open with the passing years, the seams of a skeptical mind loosen as the autumn of life approaches.

"I don't believe in ghosts, but they believe in me."

A very good Halloween short, short from Evans Light. Perfect for the season.

Beautiful, atmospheric, and thoughtful/chilling Halloween tale without the superfluous violence and gore. Very nice story for the holidays!

Perfect for Halloween. It was more creepy than scary. Malevolent ghosts/poltergeists or just bad dreams??

I needed more on this story. :)

This was a short story that was so short that it never seemed to get off the ground, but with a ten page read I guess that is to be expected. It had a great creepy atmosphere, but that is about it. The character seemed to maybe be in a dream state of mind within the ten pages but the author doesn't go into explanation of "what" is exactly happening as you are just thrown into the story without really knowing what is going on. I normally do not like reading "dream" books as most of the time they ...more

i read this in the dark, right before bedtime. It was scary and effective. However, with the story being such a short length, many questions go unanswered.

Very chilling and atmospheric. For such a short story, I was completely engrossed from beginning to end.

I've been a fan of both Evans and his brother, Adam Light, for at least three years. Probably closer to five. So it's kind of surprising that although I've had the link to Dreams of Halloween and one by Adam, since December of 2015, I'm only now getting around to them.

I'm just glad I did.

Reminiscent of Edgar Allan Poe, his locked room mystery was at the forefront of my mind, in spite of the inherent differences. Deeply phantasmagorical and psychological, it was difficult to know what exactly w

Yeah, thanks Evans, thanks a lot. My hubby's away at the moment (on a hunting trip, and he hasn't been home in a while...) and I relished in a bit of sitting up late at night with some Halloween reading. This was short, free and being the work of Mr Light, I knew it would be good.

Problem was, it is good. Very good. And creepy. Has Evans been creeping under my bed at night and writing about my fears? How does he know I wake up often at night to strange noises...? I lay there wondering if I'd loc

This was fantastic! Great imagery, and a very creepy Halloween tale. The ending few lines are chilling. This author has a new enthusiastic fan in me. I will be getting his short story collection, Screamscapes asap. I encourage everyone to get this story. Its free right now too.

This is a special, free Halloween treat for all those who follow Evans Light. He is my favorite who I have read and reviewed all his stories on Amazon.com for years.

Don’t pass this story up for it is chilling and very thought-provoking. As it actually made me look around at my extensive Library of Horror books, I have collected over the years. Thinking what if ? Then when you are done reading, you may find yourself listening a little more closely to those creaks, scrapes and bumps in the night d

Beautiful prose that creates the dreamlike atmosphere. I agree with a previous review. The style reminded me too of Edgar Allan Poe.

Ok, You Win...

Holy crow, this story! I started out a little sceptical. It was a description of the season's changing. I happen to love fall and actually love winter even more. Then thinks took a right turn, a hard right turn then hit the gas! I have never been so unnerved by a story in my life. No spoilers from me, just read this story...

The ending of Dream of Halloween was a little disappointing because the lack of the main character’s understanding left me in the dark, but it makes for a more realistic and mysterious ending. The prose was beautifully written and the events that unfolded suspenseful. I recommend this short story for a quick spooky read and I’m glad I chose it for an early morning endeavor before I start editing my own novel. Thanks to the author for writing it. Good luck!

I love Poe and this story feels like Poe to me. I never know what to expect with the author's stories but I am never disappointed. I just had to cut the lights on, it's daytime... pretty creepy.

An eerie short story to take a minutes and read on Halloween! I thought it was good but not as creepy as some of his other works.

Beautifully written horror with an uncommon attention to detail. As it pulls on your emotions and your sense of nostalgia, keep telling yourself that it is only a story.
