No creative field is immune to insecurity. It can be caused by trying to live up to Songwriting Royalty, with expectations to be the next one to carry the mantel. Or from the opposite side of the track, growing up with nothing; never being encouraged or respected due to the behavior of family and wanting more than anything to fulfill the childhood dream of singing, being the Queen of the Grand Ole Opry.

Right off the bat, I suspected this was going to wind up a “could have been…should have been better” romantic read. The first clue? When it was revealed what happened following the break-up of this supposedly head over heels in love famous country music duo. Chance Rivers obviously didn’t give their love a second chance or thought when he immediately rode off into the sunset with Dixie, the empty headed bleach bottle blonde, who the paparazzi accused him of cheating with. It didn’t help that Jol ...more

I don’t really know what to say about Heart Breaker even when I am posting a negative review, I try and keep it respectful and positive. But I’ve got nothing good to say this time. Erin McCarthy is not a new author to me, granted I haven’t read loads of her books but the few I have I really enjoyed; they made me laugh and had likeable characters with engaging story-lines.

Country music star Jolene Hart and her ex-boyfriend, singer/songwriter Chance Rivers, were the darlings of Nashville until their very public breakup. Now their agent is forcing them back together professionally because they haven't fared well separately. There's quite a lot unfinished between the two and it isn't all musical.

The first half of this story had me seriously considering this to be my second DNF in my entire reading history. That's how frustrated I was. Both Jolene and Chance were ex

The initial start was entertaining, but I just need something a little heavier right now!

I will definitely pick this back up, probably in a month for so, I love books about country music and this is light enough for summer.
ARC requested through Netgalley, and kindly provided by Random House Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review.

I really like Erin McCarthy’s writing style, in particular, her True Believers series, which was incredibly sweet and engaging. Heart Breaker introduced us to Chance and Jolene, who are around six months past a nasty break-up and forced to work together for the sake of their country music career.

Both play up the mandatory “reunion” as no big deal by using their sexual attraction

**sigh** so I read this story over the weekend and when I went to put my review up I was floored at how many people disliked the story for one reason or another. This book most definitely falls into the category of it's not you, it's me LOL I say that because I had to pick up the book three different times before I was in the right place to give the story it's proper reading.

It's easy to see how so may people may dislike Jolene and Chance. On the surface, they're two people who are constantly fi

Erin McCarthy really came through with Heart Breaker. It was a real story about two people who were going to make beautiful music together or kill each other. As volatile tempers flare and stubbornness prevails, Chance and Jolene burn up the pages. Oil and water – definitely – until the bedspread is turned down.

Together, Chance and Jolene write beautiful music. Apart, they can’t find a note to hang on the refrigerator. But, after their unbeli

I had always enjoyed Erin McCarthy's contemporary romances but then she started writing for a younger audience and writing NA romances which I wasn't a fan of so when I saw this new one on Netgalley, I liked the sound of it as I like Country Music and this book was aimed at an adult audience.

I enjoyed the beginning and was wondering if Erin McCarthy took inspiration from a real life country duo who split up last year?! I liked all the parts about song writing and the country music scene but then

DNF @ 40% .... I won't be writing a formal review or giving it a star rating for this book because I am unable to finish the book.

There was nothing really wrong with the book and it is not a reflection on the author because I have loved other books by Erin McCarthy, this story and characters just weren't connecting with me and I kept losing interest.

Just because it didn't work for me doesn't me
This book and I got off to a bad start because I used my special talent of not reading the blurb correctly. I thought it was about a duo who hated each other, not about ex's!

Then . . . just weird pacing, but the reason it's getting one star is because the ending conflict made me not want to root for them. At least half of the couple is just too immature to make a relationship work.

Heart Breaker indeed! This book broke my heart over and over. It basically ripped it out of my chest walked all over it and then for good measure stumped on it as well. And then when my heart was in pieces it picked it up and put it back in, gave me a pat and sent me along.

That's what happened here.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review and I have to say that after finishing it... I have very mixed feelings... on the one hand, there were things I really liked and enjoyed in this story... but on the other hand, there were also some aspects of it that kept irritating me... so I'm gonna share all of that with you and you can make your own decision whether to read this book or not ;)

I'm gonna start with our main couple :) unfortunately

What if you would be in a popular Country duet, fell in love with your partner and then all hell break lose? That is how Jolene and Chances story is beginning. Their record company wants them to have their second album ready soon and both of them are not liking the idea of working (or I should say be stuck) together again. They ended being secluded in a cabin and their physical attraction got the best of them. I have read and enjoyed a lot of books by Erin McCarthy, but I am sad to say that this wasn't one of them. I knew right away that I was going to struggle a bit with these characters and that held true throughout this book. Heart Breaker had such a cute blurb and I was really looking forward to reading about these country singers/songwriters. Unfortunately though this wasn't what I had been hoping for and it just didn't work for me.

HEART BREAKER, the first novel in Erin McCarthy's new series Nashville Nights is about a hot new singer and songwriting duo, Jolene Hart and Chance Rivers. Their first album and tour together was hot and so was their love affair, but then... the very public breakup. Unfortunately, they are contracted to continue to work together. Jolene and Chance have explosive chemistry and the temperaments to match. Jolene especially is not at all happy about being forced to work with Chance and stir up all t ...more
Mar 14, 2016 rated it really liked it, third chance romance! The Nashville duo of Chance and Jolene teamed up on the stage as well as the bedroom and both were successful for the couple though they had their issues. Chance seemed the classic guy saying things without really thinking about them before they left his mouth. It was funny at times because I knew just what parts it were that would set Jolene off because it seemed pretty typical of what most women would think. It is nothing but two characters who can't talk to each other and equate sex with love and the entire setup is stupid and meandering and...ugh. Quitting 60% in because I just can't take it. Both Jolene and Chance grew up differently. Chance is third generation of song writers while Jolene grew up not knowing when her next meal would be. On top of the differences between them they have a lot of pressure on them. When they first got together their music and their relationship grew now that they are apart they don't know if they still have that same magic.

There manager decides to send them to cabin to try to get their creativity back on track since they owe another album. But while t

So I picked up this book because it's been a while since I've read an Erin McCarthy book and quite frankly, the premise of this one just called to me. There's so many rock star books out there but not too many about country stars and in particular one where the couple is also a singing duet. Color me intrigued.

When we start off we quickly realize this is a second chance story where the couple has to work together on a new album after a pretty bad breakup at the end of their last tour. At the

I'm an Erin McCarthy fan but with reservations. She can be changeable in mood and tone so it can be hard to know what you're going to get. Moody NA loners? Snarky vampires? Madcap rom-com? In Heart Breaker, we get fantastic steamy writing with a truly sassy heroine, Jolene, but the whole thing is pretty much torpedoed by asshat hero, Chance. Actually I don't think you can call him a hero unless heroes can be inconsiderate, offensive, and cowardly.

Fun read.

We have Jolene and Chance, a country duo that after ending their relationship, can barely stand seeing each other, little less writing a new album. So their agent tells them to buck up and write one already, all in the coziness of a cabin in the woods.

Things are really up and down for these two. They get along great whenever they’re not fighting, and the music they create is magic. There was just too much miscommunication between them or no communication at all, since Chance d

Chance is a typical guy when temptation is right in his face, "she bent over to pick up her sundress. When she stood up again, she caught Chance looking at her ***. “You look pretty damn good to me.” I loved that Jolene was feisty and sassy, “and if that is your roundabout way of asking me whether you can skip the condom, you’re either drunk or an idiot. You know I’m not on birth control. So don’t you even think about coming near me with that p*n** unless it’s wrapped.” Chance is not a bashful m ...more
