What is vicar’s daughter Bess Farrar to do when the dashing new earl, the man gossip paints as a ruthless pirate, kisses her the day they meet? Why, kiss him right back, of course! Now Lord Channing vows to claim the lovely firebrand, despite interfering villagers, a snowstorm, scandal, and a rascally donkey. The gallant naval captain’s

He caught her trembling hands. Even through her gloves, she felt the jolt of heat. Her gaze flew up to fasten on his face. He looked intent and unexpectedly gentle. A smile turned up one corner of his lips. "Believe me, your virtue is safe, Miss Farrar. It's too bloody cold to take our clothes off."

She wanted to object to his language - and to his brazen mention of undressing - but standing here holding his hands, his salty vocabulary was the last of her worries.

A Sweet Christmas novella without the hullabaloo.

I'm really enjoying Anna Campbell's novellas and A Pirate for Christmas was sweet with a touching love story that made my little heart sing. While it's a wee bit unbelievable, with love at first sight, a smitten Lord and a town turning a blind eye to propriety in the hope of a forced marriage, we get romance without the angst. I like this style, and for me it does the perfect job of a novella, giving us the love story in a convenient little packag

Wow, this was like one of those made-for-TV Christmas specials. One of the bad ones. I've read a number of Campbell's work at this point, and while she made her name writing controversial "nouveau bodice rippers" in the mid-2000s, now she just writes slightly-smuttier-than-the-norm costume regency novels and...this. Whatever this is.

A PIRATE FOR CHRISTMAS is a love story between a vicar's daughter and an Earl, set during the holiday season.
A Pirate for Christmas by Anna Campbell is a 2015 publication.

Holiday novellas are so popular and easy to work into your busy Christmas time schedule, when finding time to read can be a challenge.

This one has such a pretty cover, and the story is light, with only a moderate amount of angst. There is a minimal cast of characters, which leaves plenty of time for Lord Channing, a man with quite the reputation as a pirate, and a Vicar’s daughter, Bess Farrar to get to know each other.

I don't often find a book where I love both of the main characters equally from the start. In that sense, this story was just a delight.

Bess Farrar is the vicar's spinster daughter (no one refers to her that way) and she's a force in the town. She makes everything work but in the best of ways. When Rory Beaton, the new Earl of Channing, arrives following his estranged brother's death, Bess confronts him after repeated attempts to get him engaged with town even

Another book I am mega-late reviewing. I finished this the first of January of this year, although I started it in December. I am huge fan of Anna Campbell, and while I found this enjoyable, it's not nearly as memorable as my favorites by her. It's a good Christmas novella, and it has her distinctive and well developed chemistry between the characters. The hero is a ginger, which is definitely a plus for me as I love gingers. He's also a bit of a bad boy, but a good-hearted sort. He's spent most ...more

A Pirate for Christmas is a romantic, fun, passionate Regency novella written by one of the genre's brightest stars. I smiled, sighed, and even giggled my way through this holiday tale and, as always, look forward to whatever it is Anna Campbell dreams up next!

That wasn't like any Campbell book I've read. I suppose after several years one can expect an author's style to change a bit, but this was dramatically different. The dialogue was very stilted as if the whole book was a play being staged. Awkward, repetitive and without lyricism.

The darker elements of Campbell stories that I recall along with a sense of naturalism in the characters responses and actions are completely absent. Needless to say, this was disappointing to me.

Overall, meh.

This woman was meant for him. He wasn't sure yet what he felt about it, but the conclusion was inescapable.

It's love at first sight for our hero and while I understand using this trope in a novella, it's not my favorite. The hero and heroine have about a five minute conversation when the hero decides/knows he will be marrying the heroine. I didn

This was a sweet regency romance. I do not read a lot of historical so I have a bit of a hard time identifying with the virginal spinster heroines and this one was no different. While Bess was funny, she was also a tad annoying in her bossiness. I did not really understand why the hero was so enamoured of her at first sight, but it was a novella! Rory was also an enigma to me. I had a hard time understanding his place in the world except to follow Bess around doing her bidding. Maybe being an Ea ...more

This review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance A Pirate For Christmas was such a short and sweet romance that I couldn't get enough. It starts out with our heroine storming into the manor house, looking for its "new" master since he has been ignoring her and she needs the use of the donkey for the Christmas play. Our heroine doesn't hold anything back and she is quite forceful about it. I did like her willful nature, even if it gets her in trouble at times. Our hero, has recently taken ...more

I now realise that "words" are kind of inadequate when it comes to this book or everything I am involved in/with, but Imma try to lay some down for you either way. Here we go:

This book was as nonsensical as it could get. It made me want to scratch my Godly eyes out.
Thank Goddess that I don't remember the plot. Ok, that's a lie, I do remember it unfortunately, but I am not going to rehash it here or anywhere else for you. Not

What a lovely Christmas treat this novella was! Anna Campbell has penned a delightful, entertaining and fun romance with the perfect snow-covered village setting.

Rory is such a likeable hero… a handsome, witty, charming and flirtatious Scotsman, with just a hint of devilment in his green eyes. Bess is managing, independent and capable, qualities that should annoy a man like Rory, but instead he finds himself both charmed and intrigued by her and deeply attracted. It was refreshing to find a hero

I never thought I'd say this, but A Pirate for Christmas is a novella that suffered because it was too long. Anna Campbell has recently been releasing a series of novellas, including several holiday themed installments. I usually really enjoy Campbell's breezy, light-hearted writing style in her novellas, which is the opposite of her dark, angsty tone that dominates in her full-length novels.

This novella started off really cute. It was an insta-love theme, but it was well done and fun. It was lo

This was a very cute, incredibly fluffy, syrupy novella. I really did enjoy it, even despite occasionally feeling a bit cringey from the over-the-top gushiness of it all. The MC's are both honorable, likeable, and easy to read about. The plot is almost entirely free of any tension or major conflicts, so if you enjoy drama and suspense, this is not for you. I actually welcomed that right now- this was an unstressful, cotton candy of a read. I can't give this 5 stars since I just felt like there w ...more

Very cute and sweet story. I loved both the mc's. The hero wants the heroine right away and decides he wants to marry her the first day he meets her. It's very low angst and I really enjoyed the banter between the two. Daisy the donkey stole the show though lol.
28/12 - There were just way too many stupid pirate jokes/references, that immediately annoyed me and since they NEVER STOPPED my sense of humour never returned. It was like a romance full of dad jokes and that much of that kind of humour just didn't work for me. Within a page I wanted to grab someone (hero or author, I would have been happy with either) and tell them to shut the Hell up about the damn pirates.

I didn't like the way Channing used Bess' guilt over needing the donkey to force her in

Adorable and sweet Christmas novella without any angst, drama, or anything else standing in the way of a very sweet HEA. I smiled my way through cute (if somewhat unbelievable) meddling villagers, an adorable best friend sidekick I would have loved to seen more of (I loved his bantering with the hero! Especially once he heard everyone thought of the hero as a pirate)... Let's just say I loved this one. It wasn't perfect (the hero things the heroine is his "destiny" after all of a day...), but it ...more

This s just an adorable story about a bossy young lady and a bachelor Pirate Earl (he's not really a pirate) and their trials and tribulations putting on a Christmas pagent in their small village. Their headbutting leads to snogging and more.

Loved it!

What a wonderful story! Rory and Bess are simply delightful leads. Rory has just inherited the earldom from his late brother and is new to Penton Abbey. Bess is the vicar's daughter and has lived in Penton Wyck her whole life. She is a take charge type of girl and is determined to make sure the new Earl falls in line with her plans. When these two meet for the first time - sparks fly!

This novella was perfect. It was paced well, had steamy love scenes, a lot of lighthearted banter and a

A fun, light-hearted story with just enough meat to the plot, for a novella. Although it was missing the darker elements Ms. Campbell's works are known for ,simple and straight forward works the best for this short length format.

This is a sweet, enjoyable Christmas novella and I loved it. Anna Campbell is a wonderful author and she does not disappoint. The hero inherits an Earldom from his brother and meets the vicar's daughter when she comes to inform him that he must provide Daisy, his donkey, who is always in the town's Christmas pageant. I will not say more as this is a short, but good, read.

A Pirate for Christmas was the holiday romance selection for the Unapologetic Romance Readers' group. Like most Christmas-themed historical romances, it's a novella rather than a full-length novel. Also like most Christmas-themed historical romances (and Christmas romances in general, regardless of time period) it relies on love at first sight to get everything going--probably because the short length doesn't leave as much room for relat

A Regency Christmas tale that took my breath away! 5 stars plus

It was a delight to read, A Pirate for Christmas, written by Anna Campbell. Every times, this author writes a Regency tale, she always surprises me, and I think she has outdone herself this time! I could not put it down, found it so sweet and fun to read. Another post-Christmas treat for me (who says you have to read a Christmas book at Christmas??!!) Anna Campbell's novella is a great combination of hot love, delicious comedy (I was laughing out loud at that donkey) and striking characters and packed full of incidents for such a short book. Beth Farrar is the vicar's daughter determined to put on the local nativity play with the use of the local Earl's donkey, but the new Earl has been annoyingly reclusive and unresponsive to her many messages, ...more

I’m generally meh on Christmas romance because I’m kind of meh on Christmas itself. It’s a really busy, stressful time of year for me and at some point during our family Christmas celebration, I inevitably wind up in tears. Plus Christmas romance tends to be treacly sweet. When I saw A Pirate for Christmas I decided to take a risk on it because Scottish pirate! Plus–shit, it was 99 cents!
