The book is slightly dated; there is a reference to a "yellow" race, which is not a phrase that we would use today in the United States. However, the "dated" aspect makes this an important historical document of the racial climate of the late 1960s/early 1970s. At a time when African Americans were fighting for their freedom, Black writers were ensuring that their (our; I am biracial) people were represented in literature, including children's books.
