Basen's unique skill with energy leaves him hunted by a psychic of legendary power. But that becomes the least of his troubles when an enemy army of unknown numbers, loyal to a murderous pretender to the throne, surrounds the Academy where Basen has honed his talents. As he begins uncovering the truth about his enemies, it does little more than show him how powerful they really are. But the most dangerous of all, the one who hunts him, will shock everyone by accomplishing something so diabolical, so utterly insane, no one would’ve guessed it was possible.
So I definitely enjoyed this book but not quite as much as the first. A lot of this story revolved around Sanya and I just don’t much care about her story. I prefer Basen, Effie and Alabell. I get why the author did what he did, and the story was enjoyable, but I didn’t quite love it.

I read this series at the beginning of this year and I decided to reread it. I just love the story and characters in this series. I am always sad when finishing and wish for more. The characters are just great and they will get you. Books like these I will reread again in the future. GREAT READING EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When the author gives so much power to the villain it's pretty predictable and the story line just fizzles out.The silly situations the main characters get into is a pathetic excuse of situations that seems pretty ridiculous and the author by giving all the overwhelming power to the antagonist really leaves the reader in hopelessness that main characters would need some real crazy unrealistic plan that is so far fetched that would be completely unbelievable and built the villain up so much that he completely lost me on how the good guy has any chance against the villain and leaving me in confusion over the hopeless ending .
Writing is good, but descriptive. There is no reason for anything that is happening. Also, Sanya killed two people, innocent people. But then everyone feels some sort of loyalty towards her. Are you fucking kidding me. You can't make someone the villain in book one but then the hero in book two. That's fucking mental, and Basan, are you fucking kidding me? He still questions Cleve about who he's rather see dead.? Sanya or the king? This is what happens when you invest yourself in a book that starts of as a diamond and transforms into a coal.
I was a fan of the second book to the King of Kings series. I re-read the first book since it had been a while before diving in to this one, and it picked up right where book one left off. It is interesting to see some more characters developed that were glossed over in the first book and to also get some characters from the past brought back in to the fold. There is a lot of promise and as soon as I finished this book I started book 3 on the spot.
The first in the series was okay with great promise, but halfway through this book it just got bogged down with too many cluttered characters and silly situations. Not to mention the careless deaths of of the only characters that the author had spent any real time investing the reader in. Bah! I can find far better things to read, thank you!
Sanya has done an incredible amount of damage to the Academy in her desire to get exactly what she wants. now that she has succeeded, she suddenly finds that she has cut off all escape routes through her machinations. is all of it for naught?
Read this many years ago. Started it again because I forgot I had read it. Then, I remembered. It was an ok read. About book 3 or 4 I started to have problems with the portals.
I realized I didn't care about the characters enough to wade through more filler. I quit reading after 4 chapters. Maybe it gets better. I will never know.

The Kin of Kings Book 2 picked up right where the first left off. It kept the same pace with no signs of slowing. The story was fluid and the overall story is great and will hold til the end making you wish there was more, Oh there is Book 3. Great reading everyone!!!!
Great storyline, characters and spiced with surprises
Love the characters and like the way these young heroes get to play a major role in the war. It's fantasy:-) Following such powerful game changing youngsters make me wonder where all the even-more-skilled adult heroes are, and why don't a league of them play higher in this world...? Anyway, it's great reading, and best of all: it's full of surprises!
It's a good story, but the characters never grow or become bigger than life. This leaves the story dry as readers don't expect the characters to break their limits to accomplish anything making the story worth reading.
The Kin of Kings series continues to offer excitement through past paced adventures and surprising turns of events. This second installment is a bit less thrilling than the first book but it is nevertheless still interesting and intriguing.
Really building up the stakes in this war and making all the intricate puzzle pieces moving around. In curious to see how it all fits together. Ended in another cliff hanger, lucky I had the next book to start straight away.
