The Haunted Realm by Emilyann Girdner is book two in her Obsidian series. This story picks up where the first book left off. Araina has been captured by those who live in this new part of the labyrinth. The woman who has captured her intends to turn her over to the Creators when they come for their daily deliveries. Araina is confused. The Creators come by and check on these people? But why? In her brief time with the woman Araina learns a lot. Things are different here and the differences are d ...more

Wonderful story! I really enjoyed this second book in the Obsidian series. The book is full of surprises and suspense, as Araina continues her journey with her friends through a dangerous land. I'm constantly amazed at the things they go through and the places they see. It's a magical place throughout the book. And there are quite a few moments when I thought the creators, their enemies, would win and kill them all. I couldn't stop reading the story from the first page and really got to know all ...more

The Haunted Realm is the second book in the Obsidian series. I felt this book was just as good as the first one...maybe a little better. It's an interesting world with an interesting cast of characters. I feel it is a unique story that a lot of people will enjoy. Araina is a strong character and goes through a lot in this book (yes she went through a lot in the first one too but it seems even more gets thrown at here in this installment). I like the fact that she is brave in the face of all the ...more

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Haunted Realm is the second book of Emilyann Girdner’s Obsidian series. This is a wonderful collection and definitely one of the best in the contemporary YA Fantasy scene. The series has a dark fantasy, dystopian feel in its generally bleak setting and the tyranny of the Creator overlords, and Girdner is skilled at portraying this, but her work is notable because she manages to be equally proficient in counterin

This is the second book in the Obsidian series, written by Emilyann Girdner. Araina, a girl in her late teens who has escaped from Segment One of the labyrinth in which she was created, discovers there is more to life than simply fighting for survival.

I saw a considerable amount of symbolism in this story as Araina develops a deeper awareness of her emotional self. Her sensitivity to the needs of her companions is a key element in the plot. She learns the pleasure in forming relationships while

The Haunted Realm is the 2nd book in the Obsidian series, it is really recommended that you read Labyrinth Wall (the 1st book of the series) before reading this one - it will make things make a lot more sense.

Ariana, the main character, is a girl in her late teens who was created in the Labyrinth. Ariana discovers that there is more to life than simply fighting for survival. I don't write spoilers - but the twist that are in this book will keep you wondering what is going to happen next!!

I did not enjoy the writing style of the first book in this series. I felt it was to simple and written for a very young crowd, but this book is better. The mystery and suspenseful nature of this story added nicely to the overall enjoyment while reading this book. I am glad I decided to read the second book in this series. If you are on the fence after the first book, I would say give this one a chance. It might prove to be a new favorite.
