certain parts were VERY dated but some of it was helpful. i'd say skip the 3rd chapter (at least pages 48-58) unless you are interested in reading about some crazy biological/physiological determinism that no longer is validated. overall, i'd say it still has something to offer parents trying to help understand and better "parent" their children. the breakdown of what to expect from children all the way to age 10 was interesting, as it reminds one that parenting is a long-term occupation and gro ...more

I find Ages and Stages to be incredibly useful information and this review of that was great and gave me some additional insight...going to read the appropriate full books. I found some useful info beyond that but as a whole it felt so dated as to almost be irrelevant. Just looked and am surprised it was published in 81, I would have guessed 10-20 years earlier based on references to societal expectations...

Explanation of equilibrium / disequilibrium. Lists of typical behaviors at different ages. Surprisingly relevant for as old as it is.

Has a nice section on each age group. Comforting to know the things that each age does are normal and appropriate. Also, have books on each age group.
