I got this comic in a book subscription box yesterday, and it was great! I'm going to try to follow this series issue by issue, because it was great and I don't want to wait for the trade paperback!

Stale and boring describes Jeff Lemire’s output these last few years, I mean his latest comic Plutona (I suppose All-New Hawkeye’s not bad). Set in a world where superheroes exist, high school kids discover a body in the woods – yup, that’s the whole first issue! Jeff Lemire deciding to rip off Stand By Me for his latest book. Essex County sure seems like a long time ago!

Who even comes up with these stuff? This comic book is anything but heartfelt, for starters. The character from the cover is a total b

Awww. This was so cute and sad all at the same time. I actually enjoyed it very much. Can't wait to read more.

This probably deserves 5 stars because it's a completely different telling of a superhero story, but the characters, for the most part, are very unlikable. Granted, maybe I just think teenagers are annoying, but Mie is an awful friend, Ray is an awful person overcompensating for the fact that he lives in an abusive home, and the other two have redeeming qualities but are overshadowed by the first two. Granted, it's more realistic this way, but if they are the forefront, and it's hard to get behi ...more

Cool! A good start.
My fav are Diane and Ray. Diane is a chubby metalhead girl, when I saw her on the cover I decided she would be my fav! And what coincidence, her pup's name is Loki!!
Ray is the classic bully with problems at home.
Also, we have Mie and his little bro Mike. And Teddy, who is obsessed by superheroes.
These guys found Plutona, a superheroine dead in a wood.

I read this graphic novel as part of the 2017 HUB Reading Challenge & graphic novel winner. I loved the art work by Emi Lenox but the story of teens finding a superhero dead in the woods and undecided on what to do about it - did not bring out the best in this group. Mei has a younger brother and is selfish (to her bestie), mean (to her brother), and drops everything for a loser guy. Loser guy, Ray, comes from a broken home with alcoholic dad but Ray is not nice to anyone, especially Teddy a ...more

With how this first issue went off it makes me hopeful that the series will be good. Interested in seeing more character development and additional cape sightings.

So I recently made my first purchase on Humble Bundle: they're currently doing a deal with Image comics where you donate a certain amount of money and get a ton of comics by Image. In other words, I'll be reading a lot of comics over the next few months.

With Plutona, I'm not really sure what to make of it. This first issue was very short and nothing really eventful happens. The first half of the issue follows several grade school characters through their day. One of the boys likes to watch the s

So, Jeff Lemire has got the key to my soul. Reading his work is amazing for me. I love the Descender Series so much that I sound like a crazy zealot convert when I talk about it. I knew Plutona was coming out and I was eager for its arrival. But when it showed up in September, I put off buying it. There was no way it could be as good at the story of Tim-21 and I waited. I picked it up today and it was my only purchase (I am very proud of myself for that). But I was right, I was disappointed. Not ...more

Issue #1 felt very short and like nothing happened. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't brilliant. The artwork was ok but didn't wow me. I guess it was very hard to get a sense of the story outside of "five kids find the body of a superhero in the woods" and we knew that before starting to read. There wasn't really anything else to suck me into the story. I'll give issue #2 a shot, but as this is first issue of a five issue run (as I've read somewhere) so I'm a bit disappointed. I feel like its too slo ...more

Recommends it for: People that are tired of traditonal superhero stories
Jeff Lemire's writing tends to start off at a slow pace (minor criticism, he's still one of the best), but if you're patient, the payoff is worth it. Emi Lenox's illustrations are absolutely amazing, and they're even more impressive with Jordie Bellaire's colors. I'm excited that Lenox is finally getting the recognition she deserves. These three are a comic dream team, and I can't wait to read more.

I received this single issue in my Landfallfrieght box for September and I was super excited because I really like Jeff Lemire. The artwork is a bit different but I still liked it. I like the main character Mie. She totally reminds me of Spinelli from Recess lol. I didn't really like her as a character because I think she takes advantage of her friend. But we will have to see what happens in the next issues. I will probably wait for the trade paperback before grabbing this one.

SO this is only issue #1 but there's definitely potential here. We follow a group of different children who end up seeing something rather unsetting at the end of this issue. This world has superheroes and yet, the superheroes have their own lives too. It looks like this could be a lot of fun and so I may pick up the volume instead of going issue by issue...

Interesting premise. Good story and I like that the characters are very real: an overweight teen girl who puts up with her bullying best friend, a baby brother and an abused teen boy turned bully...

3.5 stars I'm interested enough to see where this goes. For a first issue, I wish there had been a little more build-up in getting to know the characters but the premise is intriguing. Will be picking up issue #2.

I loved the way the characters were intrudes. I can't wait for more!

The cover shows Mie and the next one has Ray. Does this mean there are only four comics in all? How is the whole story going to be told in only four comic books. Gah!

Intriguing first issue. I love the art, and I like Lemire's mishmash of classic super hero storylines and modern middle America.
