Evelyn (age 9) says "I recommend it, my favourite character was Zoe, because even though she was getting in trouble, she still wanted to help the penguin. It was very kind. Her secret was that she can talk to animals but nobody else knows about it. Pick up off a book shelf and read it".

Alice (age 6) says "this story is really good, I recommend it. I love Zoe and Meep, and Pip the Puzzled Penguin. This book is fishers and also she went in the fish tank with the penguins, and Meep didn't like water so had to sit on rocks, and also, the book was amazing. The best book ever. You have to p-p-p-pick it off the book shelf in the library. This is all, because I don't want to do spoiler alerts".

I thought this book was very good because there’s this girl who has this necklace that allows her to talk to animals. Then her great-uncle brings a very cute baby penguin who doesn’t think that he’s even a penguin! The girl tries to prove that the penguin is a penguin! The next day, she comes up with a great plan. Since the girl lives in a zoo, and penguin loves to follow her and do what she does, the girl puts on her bathing suit, jumps into the penguin enclosure and starts swimming! The penguin jumps in after her and also starts swimming! Finally the new baby penguin realizes that he is a penguin after all!

It was a quick and fun read. I wish I lived in a zoo, but I could also imagine all the smells that would greet my nose every day. Yet, I suppose if I lived there, my nose would be numb to them.

The resolution to the problem was quite convenient for the lead character Zoe. Also, there was a part that got me confused.

Aside from these inconsistencies, the book was great and I loved the bits of information about some of the animals.

I was a zoo educator for 20+ years so I was excited to find this series! after reading, I was disappointed. there were several parts that were factually incorrect. I would love to see the author either add a facts section at the end or work to ensure the animals & geography facts on the story were correct. But the plot is cute and still worth reading.

Adorable chapter book about a little girl, Zoe, who lives in a zoo full of rescued animals. She can talk to animals. This time her uncle has rescued a little penguin, who is unaware that he's a penguin. Zoe has to help the penguin realize that he's a penguin and sell a bunch of penguin feeding tickets for her summer vacation.

I thought this book was interesting because it has a lot of adventure such as Zoe diving into the penguin pool. This book teaches you that penguins can't fly.
I think children who like penguins like me would love this book.

Sweet story of an animal-loving girl taking initiative with a new animal at the zoo. Fun concept of her loving at the zoo with her vet mom—some interesting animal facts thrown in. Simple plot line & conflict. No concerning content. Good for Thea to read on her own.

I would love to be able to live at the rescue zoo! Wouldn't that be so much fun? Zoe's family includes people and animals that she can talk to and understand. Her mom's the vet there and her great uncle owns the place. So, she can pretty much do whatever she wants to there.

Mr.Pinch was trying to make Zoe sell the tickets for the penguin feeding show so she won't have fun during her holidays. But he was wrong.

Read this to my 5 year old. He wanted to give it 5 stars. I found the idea of a kid swimming in the penguin exhibit (on purpose) to be gross. But this is a cute series.

In this story the main character Zoe lives in a zoo that her Great Uncle Horace owns. Her mother is the veterinarian for the zoo so this is where Zoe has grown up. Zoe has just began summer vacation and she is excited that she gets to spend every day with all of the animals at the zoo especially her little lemur friend Meep that lives with her at her house. They had a long list of fun things that they were going to do around the zoo until they overheard Mr. Pitch one of the zoo workers talking to Zoe’s mom about a special project that he wants her and Meep to work on, Zoe’s mom thinks it is a great idea and that both Zoe and Meep are going to love it. They begin to get a little sad because that means all of their plans are gone that they had for their summer. That night Zoe’s mom made dinner for her Meep and Mr. Pitch, where he was going to break the news, as he walked in he brought a little friend that was a baby penguin Pip. Zoe’s eyes lit up and she got pretty excited to hear what the special project was going to be because the cutest little penguin was standing on her kitchen table. He told them that there was going to be a new penguin feeding show and she was going to be the person that sells the tickets at the hut outside the penguin enclosure. She agreed to doing it even though she knew it might be something boring.
The next day the Mr. Pitch took Zoe, Meep, and Pip around to show her the ropes on selling the tickets and where the show was going to be. She agreed to doing it but every so often she figured out that the show wasn’t really selling as much as they wanted and on another day she totally forgot to sell tickets to the show. So then they ended up having to cancel. Will one of the other workers was the main person Zoe would go to when things didn’t go exactly as planned but in this case Mr. Pitch found out and was not very happy at all. He made Zoe put the penguin back in the enclosure and he threatened not letting Zoe being a part of much if the ticket sales didn’t go up. She had to come back to the house and think about what she was going to do next. She then decided the next step was going to be her getting in the tank with the penguins at the show, she was tired of sitting on the side and watching the penguins in the show and little the babies learn how to swim by themselves so she decided that she was going to get in the tank and help them out. What do you think Mr. Pitch thought of this plan, was this going to work for all of the penguins that were in the cage, and were the ticket sales going to go up? Find out when you read the book (:

Higher-Level Thinking Questions
1. Use the information known to create a plan for Zoe on how she is going to make the ticket sales go up and how she will keep Mr. Pitch happy.
2. Compare and contrast the feelings that Zoe has about the zoo compared to the feelings that Mr. Pitch has.
3. Create a poster for the ticket sale hut for the penguin show sales.
4. Why does Mr. Pitch not trust Zoe with all of the animals when she is part of the family that started the zoo and literally lives there?
5. What were the steps in this book, make a timeline?

I thought that this book was magnificent. Pip is hilarious! At first he thought that he was a flamingo. Then, he thought he was a zebra. Next, he thought that he was an owl. At least he finally saw that he was a penguin. Also, Mr. Pinch defintely got what he deserved. It was Will's idea anyway. I'm glad that that bossy lady put Mr. Pinch in his place. My faviroute charcter is both Pip and Zoe. I like Zoe because she is so helpful and she really, really, really wanted to help Pip to settle in into the Rescue Zoo and see that really he is a penguin. I like Pip because he is hilariousy hilarious and funny and comical. I reccomend this book to everyone as it is amazing and magnifcent and impressive. It will keep you reading!
