I have lived in Droylsden, Manchester, all my life. I live with my parents, my younger sister, Cheryl, and her little girl, Faith.
I never knew what I wanted to do with my life until I began writing. This is my dream. I get most of my inspiration from music. I’ll sit listening to it and suddenly I’m no longer in the room. My stories play like movies in my mind, then I go and write them down.
I'm a very dark person. I love anything spooky, supernatural, or unexplainable, and so that’s the genre I want to write in for the rest of my life. I work as a freelance graphic artist. I have created covers for my own novels, self published authors, World Castle Publications and Sizzler Editions. I will also be creating the covers for Empire Voices audiobooks.
Scary films are a true love of mine, although I find it very hard to find one these days that actually frightens me. My favourite story of all time is Bram Stoker's, Dracula. The movie is equally as amazing.
I have had a love of photography from being a child. I have literally thousands of photographs which I have taken over the years. Now, I have a professional DSLR camera and I'm looking to do photography as well as my graphics as a sideline project.
I have a blog site and website where you can find out more information. Please visit me at either...
I received an ARC of this book off the author, in exchange for an honest review. For those of you who know her normal genre, be prepared for something very different from author Lindsay Anne Kendal. As with all of her books, she drags you into the story so you want to finish the chapter. But next thing you know, you're 3 or 4 chapters further, with no desire to stop!!!
While reading this book, I could feel myself being sucked in, as if I were watching it all happen. There were times I wanted to shout at the characters, to tell Declan what was going on, who was helping them in their time of need. Times you want to know who she is and what she said doing it all for, but also times, after finding out, you want to hit her for not getting to Declan quick enough, or not helping him out first. (But I don't think I would want to get involved with K-you might, but not me). As with all books by this author, don't expect the ending you want....as usual, she has us all hanging on for the next part of this series. She will have you wanting to know what the Toledo's have coming to them, but we'll just have to wait and see.
4star's, that's only because I've got to wait for the next, so really you deserve 5 star's, the book was gripping, the characters feel like family, you're completely drawn in, parts made me giggle, parts had me crying, mostly had me turning the pages at speed.
I am not a big fan of action books, therefore this review may be not as reliable. However, Lindsay’s other previous series was incredible!!
For me, A.T.O.N. was an okay read. I did not dislike it but I did not love it. I feel like I did not have a strong connection towards the characters. Also, the chemistry between the characters fell a little flat. Throughout the story, the book tended to be dialogue-heavy which, to me, makes the story quicker to read.
The characters were enjoyable. I didn’t really like Declan. I felt that he was too invested in revenge. I really liked how Lindsay added the flashbacks of K. I really wish we had more backstories for the characters so that I could connect with them more.
The action in this book was not great. I felt it was overshadowed by the dialogue. I always enjoy books that are dialogue-heavy but this had too much dialogue at times.
I did enjoy the overall premise of this series starter and cannot wait to see how it all plays out. You can see how much Lindsay grows as an author. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
A.T.O.N is the first of an action series by Lindsay Anne Kendal and a February read for my book club, The Book Cove. I usually love when a story hits the ground running but the pace kept up too long and left me feeling disconnected to the characters. At some point the action segued to heavy dialogue. So heavy that at times I had to back track to figure out who was speaking. Maybe my disconnection to the characters impaired my ability to hear their voices. This also allowed me to the put the book down very easily. The characters were introduced and described in a way that gave me a great starting point to see their arc through this 4 book series. I wanted more back story or personal details sooner. The flashback when K explains to Declan how she knew his dad was well done. I wanted more of that! I enjoyed Kendal’s growth as a writer; her syntax and vocabulary have increased and the research she clearly undertook give the story a very realistic feel. I rated this book 3/5 stars.
So, I have read Lindsay Anne Kendal's work for awhile now. A.T.O.N. was AMAZING. Her best work yet. I will not go into book details in the review, but I can say.. WOW. This book had me gasping, and covering my mouth, as I would with a great movie. I was SO impressed with the depth of characters.. the conversations, and the action all the way through. With each book release you see this author grow, her stories come to life in your mind. This will be a book you will WANT to read, and will not be able to put it down. I recommend anyone who loves suspense, strong women, action, and twists to a story, to read this!!
