Rate this book
This book presents the foundations and applications of statics by emphasizing the importance of visual analysis of topics—especially through the use of free body diagrams. It also promotes a problem-solving approach to solving examples through its strategy, solution, and discussion format. The authors further include design and computational examples that help integrate these ABET 2000 requirements. The book contains a Statics Study Pack which includes Free Body Diagram Workbook, Working Model CD-ROM, and Drill Website containing practice problems with full solutions. Features strong coverage of FBDs. Includes a revised discussion of loads (Ch. 6). Chapter topics Vectors; Forces; Systems of Forces and Moments; Objects in Equilibrium; Structures In Equilibrium; Centroids and Centers of Mass; Moments of Inertia; Friction; Internal Forces and Moments; Virtual Work and Potential Energy. For professionals in mechanical, civil, aeronautical, or engineering mechanics fields.

This is a great book as an introduction to statics or, as I'm reading it this time, to bring yourself back up to speed on the subject. The really good parts of the book are its chapter structure and well written explanations of the theory. The chapter structure is effectively a bit of theory immediately followed by detailed examples. This sounds simple but many textbooks introduce a lot of little bits of theory followed by few examples, sometime with sparse details, and I find this makes learning a lot more difficult on those points you are finding a little bit harder to understand. Even though the examples are detailed and the theory is well written, the book is not verbose and on this 'review' reading I got through the entire book very quickly.
