LOVE ISN'T ALWAYS EASY.... I set out for a small town in order to find myself. What I never expected was to find the one thing I always needed- Wes Taylor. He obliterated every wall surrounding my battered heart. The only problem? The darkness I had left behind followed me, once again taking hold of my life.
---------
For four years I’ve raised my daughter, Ellison, on my own. I wasn’t looking to have my world tilted on its axis, but the day Lenni Blackmon came to Fredricks it did just that. The only problem? She was too afraid of her past to look forward to a future.
Randa Lynn is an avid reader and lover of all things romance. She has sketched stories since she could write, and decided to finally pursue her dream in crafting real words from fictional lives. She lives in Louisiana with her husband and children. In her spare time, she loves to watch her favorite movies, find recipes—that she’ll never cook—on Pinterest, and find GIF’s that fit any occasion. Her favorite things in life are her children and husband, spending weekends outside, and—of course.
Overall Opinion: Man. This is going to be hard to fill out without going into rant mode. I really should've put it on my dnf shelf at 60%. I would say it was a 3/3.5 star rating until that point and then the h became stupid. . She also started crying about everything and anything and I decided that I just didn't like her. I couldn't get past my dislike for the h at this point, so I no longer found the story as a whole enjoyable.
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Lenni and Wes' story. They meet when Lenni finds a hurt little girl on the beach of her lake house who ends up being Wes' daughter. Wes' ex-wife abandoned him and his daughter when she was 1 (is now 4), and Lenni just got out of a 4 year abusive relationship -- so they both carry a lot of baggage. The 3 of them instantly bond and fall in love. There is some ex drama (for both), some family drama, and some personal drama...but they get their HEA ending.
POV: This alternated between Lenni and Wes' POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Ok. I got irritated at the 60% mark and ended up skimming most of the rest of the story. I still got the basics of what happened, and I really don't think I missed all that much which isn't good since I literally skimmed about 40%!
Instalove: Yes. They do not know each other very long before some strong feelings are developed.
H rating: 3 stars. Wes. He was ok...yep that's it.
h rating: 2 stars. Lenni. I had some big issues with her (see above spoiler).
Sadness level: Low. I didn't need any tissues.
Heat level: Low. Scenes were kind of meh.
Descriptive sex: Yes.
Safe sex: There are mentions of condom use, and at other times I didn't remember it being mentioned.
OW/OM drama: Yes. We have to deal with drama from both of their exes.
Sex scene with OW or OM:
Cheating:
Possible Triggers:
Closure: It had an epilogue that showed a glimpse into the couple's HEA ending. At this point I was skimming a good bit, but I would still say that it was pretty good closure.
How I got it: It was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.
The best book ever! If you are looking for a great book, a great love story, and a great everything; this is the book. Always is the debut novel of the new author Randa Lynn and she don’t disappoint at all. I love the way Randa brought the characters together, the story was equal in the love, the plot, the twist and the intimacy. This story held my attention from the beginning to end. Is unlike everything, the author sucked me into and I found myself one more chapter please. I was hooked, the love story of Lenni, Wes and Elli was beyond perfect. Those three have my heart, the love that I have for one each of them is just exceptional. You always look the powerful, feisty and hardworking heroine, but see the hero out ahead alone with his daughter, is realistic. Weston is an exceptional father who does everything to provide the best loves to his daughter, and she is a sweet girl who always steals you heart; in every breath. This book teaches you to love unconditionally, teaches you to appreciate what you have, and teach you to LOVE WESTON AND ELLISON TAYLOR FOR EVER. I can say that this author has my 100% recommendation, the story is well written, well developed and well explained. I can’t wait for more she can bring us, so keep going Girl!!!
This book stole my heart from the first chapter! I just knew I was going to fall hard for Wes! What amazes me is that this is Lynn’s first novel. What a talented young lady! She did a wonderful job capturing all the emotions that you only hope to feel when you read the perfect book! And it was PERFECT!
Wes. Oh my love. What a man. He’s funny, he’s hot, he’s sexier than hell, he’s caring and giving. He is a great father and a fabulous boyfriend. He just kept on surprising me, I kept waiting for him to be a dick, but it never happened. To be honest, that’s one of the things that I loved most about this book. Yes, there was definitely some tough times that this couple went through, but Wes...oh Wes...he was the perfect book boyfriend! Lenni is one lucky woman! I loved her tremendously, what a beautiful lady, both inside and out. She embraced little Elli immediately and I instantly wanted them to be a family! I NEEDED them to be a family! Elli, what a sweet little girl! She stole my heart that first day on the beach.
I absolutely adored all of the secondary characters! What great friends Wes and Lenni have! I enjoyed every single scene they were in! I thoroughly enjoyed the bromance that happened between Wes, Cam and Dame. They are all so hilarious! The girls! Oh my! Do they have spunk! I enjoyed the interactions between Amber, Zoe and Lenni, especially when they were with the boys! Cam is my fave and I really hope he gets his own story in the not so distant future....just sayin’.
This is such a beautifully written book, I cannot express how lucky and honored I was to read it! I was sad it had to end and that is the sign of a great novel! Thank you so much Randa Lynn for giving us the incredible and heart warming love journey of Wes and Leni. I will never forget this experience and I cannot wait to read your next masterpiece. This love story will remain in my heart....
"I want real, gritty, passionate and all-consuming. I want a love so real it leaves the sun jealous of our nights and the moon jealous of our days." This book stole my heart from the first chapter! I just knew I was going to fall hard for Wes! What amazes me is that this is Lynn’s first novel. What a talented young lady! She did a wonderful job capturing all the emotions that you only hope to feel when you read the perfect book! And it was PERFECT! "But when you've lived with the devil, hell starts to feel like the only place you belong." Wes What a man. He’s funny, he’s hot, he’s sexier than hell, he’s caring and giving. He is a great father and a fabulous boyfriend. Lenni is one lucky woman! I loved her tremendously, what a beautiful lady, both inside and out. She embraced little Elli immediately. Elli, what a sweet little girl! She stole my heart. "I love you, Daddy. Hand, heart. I'm with you in there." Thank you so much Randa Lynn for giving us the incredible and heart warming love journey of Wes and Leni. I will never forget this experience. This love story will remain in my heart.... ALWAYS....
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. These are MY thoughts.
I opened this book without knowing anything about it or reading a synopsis.
From the very first page I was was hooked.
Lenni Blackmon is a woman who has been broken. She doesn't know what she wants in life or even how to climb out of the hole she finds herself in.
Wes Taylor is a sexy as hell single dad with his own issues.
This story was beautiful. The way it developed and the way it was written.
It's hard to believe that this is the debut novel for Randa Lynn.
With all it's twists and turns this was a welk rounded story. A bit of drama, a lot of love, a touch of crazy and the cutest child character I've read in a while!
This book was everything. I absolutely loved it.
This was a perfect debut and I can't wait to see what else Randa will give us in the future!
Add it to your tbr - and move it to the top of the pile!
I just fell in love with an entire book of characters! I really enjoyed this story. I loved the way the story arced and the progression. It never felt rushed and just when I thought I knew what was going to happen I was taken in another direction. There are a slew of secondary characters that I can't wait to hear their stories. This was just a really gorgeous debut by Randa Lynn.
Lenni leaves behind a life that's been full of pain and humiliation at the hands of someone who supposedly loved her. She makes a decision to walk away and needs some time to decide how she is going to move on. Enter Wes and Ellison!
I need to warn you right now that Weston Taylor may be the closest thing to perfect you'll ever read. A true southern gentleman with charm to spare. I swear every time he tipped his baseball cap I was ready to strip off my clothes! He's not had it easy the past few years. After his piece of work wife up and left him and their daughter he's put aside his wants to be able to take care of her needs. He's completely content living a life with the sole purpose of making sure his little Elli never wants and is surrounded with family that loves her. But he knows that despite his efforts a Mom may be something she never has and that is more than enough to break his heart.
I couldn't wait for Wes, Elli and Lenni to come together. I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. It's so sweet and so natural. Nothing is forced. Lenni's genuine heart causes Wes to take notice. And sweet little Elli is so easy to love that each interaction leads to Lenni falling more and more in love with both of them. And them with her. Again the secondary characters are lots of fun and will be great stories themselves! So keep yours eyes on this new author. She's got lots to offer and I can't wait to read what's next!
I'm shocked by how much I loved this book. I have to say I went into this one with low expectations but Randa blew it out of the park. It was a great debut novel.
This had one of my favourite storylines, I love reading about single fathers and this one was one of my favourites so far.
I loved Weston Taylor, he was a hottie and such an amazing father. I loved his relationship with Elli, nothing and no one was as important as that little girl was to her daddy and it completely melted my heart. The relationship Wes had with his friends was hilarious, I really enjoyed seeing him let loose.
Lenni to me was an amazing woman, she had endured so much pain at the hands of her ex but she was strong enough not to really let it break her. She had a slight blip but other than that she is one of the few leading ladies that I actually adored. I loved how she just took to Elli straight away, she was so patient and loving with her and it was just so lovely to read about.
Elli was my favourite thing about this whole story, she was super cute and I loved her instantly!! She had me laughing so hard a few times and crying the others.
I really enjoyed the fact that Elli was so involved in this story, normally in stories about single parents the children are kind of in the background. That wasn't the case here and it was so nice to read about.
I really hope we get a story from some of the supporting characters. I really want to see what Damien is hiding from Zoe and I would love to see Cam tame April.
Wes is raising his daughter alone…talk about heart melting . That takes a real man. A man who is fearless because being a parent is scary…but doing that alone is brave.
Anyway he and Len keep running into each other and their connection is hard to ignore. Once they get together these two are flawless.
You read those stories where each interaction can seem forces or maybe awkward but these two it was perfect. You could almost feel the sparks and the heat.
Not only does Randa make you love those two but she has you falling for every character in the book. The story line itself seemed so real. You couldn’t put it down if you tried.
Fantastic!!!! I absolutely LOVED this book! My heart was instantly given to Wes and his little 'Scooter'. I fell in love with them and the beautiful relationship they have. He would do anything for his little girl! And then Lenni came into their lives. She was meant to have come into their lives. They needed her as much as she needed them. They had me laughing at one moment and then crying the next. So many feels in these pages that I now need more! Add this to your TBR!! You need to read it!!!
This is a very well written book. It is a beautifully told love story and the characters are amazing, especially the little girl Elli, she was just adorable. Both characters have baggage from their past and both pasts come back to haunt them and threaten their newfound relationship. I love the way the relationship and characters developed and all the supporting characters were very strong and likeable. I highly recommend this book and author and I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future.
What a beautiful story. You instantly love Wes and Elli and you feel for Lenni you want to be her friend . This was such a relatable story this had the feel of being someone you may know . I mean Wes he's a blue collar guy and proud and that is the hottest thing. There were times of frustration of sadness and pure happiness . Let's face it Elli owned my heart from the 1st moment . I can't wait to read more from Randa Lynn
I love these stories with men raising a child it's sexy and Wes Taylor is just that. Lenni was looking to make a new start and in a small town she was doing that she just didn't realize she would find somthing to make her stay. Wes is your all American guy, sweet, sexy and has only room for one special girl in his life, his daughter that is until Lenni makes an impression. I loved these two characters they complete each other even though they are different. loved it.
I have found a new book boyfriend, and his name is Wes! I love this story. It is so beautifully written and an amazing debut by an author. I can't wait to see what she writes next. I will definitely be reading more from her.
This is hands down one of the sweetest books I've ever read. It was so easy to fall in love with Wes, his little girl and, Lenni.... the love the three of them shared. Such deep crazy stupid love. I've had this on my kindle forever and I'm so angry I've waited this long to read it.
Two people who come from two different worlds but couldn't be more perfect for each other. These two have had their share of heartache and pain. But this is the lesson, "In life we live, we learn, and grow. We can either wallow or rise up from the ashes the trials leave behind." What a great story.
The story begins on a very disheartening note as the heroine discovers that her abusive fiancee is having an affair. This is a story that left her past behind her and moved on. It's also a story about a single dad raising an adorable daughter. Both of these two people are heaven sent for one another. Both of them have scars from their pasts that they're trying to overcome, neither of them is looking for love. This story is a bit heartbreaking. It was moving and emotional. There were parts of it that seemed to drag on and the storyline could have probably been wrapped up in no more than 30 chapters but the story itself was good and I was glad that I finally got around to reading it after 2 years.
"But when you've lived with the devil, hell starts to feel like the only place you belong."
As soon as I read the prologue of this book I had immediately expected to feel the emotions I felt throughout this book but what I didn't expect was to be crying at just how beautiful it was written and that's exactly what happened with Always, it was written so beautiful, the words seeped into my heart and soul. I also wasn't expecting for the characters to mean so much to me - I know that might sound weird but it's so true. The characters in this book were different for me, I felt it the whole time I was reading. And just incase anyone is wondering my heart was stolen by Elli! That girl is heart melting and I doubt anyone will come out of this book without an Elli shaped stamp on their heart.
"I love you, Daddy. Hand, heart. I'm with you in there."
So this book is about Wes who is a single father to the most precious little girl, Elli. And Lenni, a woman with a past she is trying to put behind her while she learns to love herself again. All three of these character continue to cross paths, along with Lenni's crazy fun friend Amber. As time goes on their lives begin to intertwine much more, more than they ever expected. While Lenni and Wes aren't exactly running from their pasts but morelike trying to leave it behind them for good. Their journey isn't always easy and with their pasts making appearances where they're not wanted, Wes and Lenni have decisons to make, how much control do they want to give to their pasts and what do they want for their future?
Wes is pretty damn perfect. Yep. You read that right. He really is and he's written in such a way that he's perfect in such a real way that it's endearing and not off putting. There is really no such thing as too perfect when it comes to Wes Taylor! and I'm pretty sure he would tell you that himself ha! OMG he is so cocky and I freakin love it, he's so cocky in such a laid back way, it's the best! I LOVED him and Elli together- seeing their interactions *Swoons* I also love how he is with Lenni - how he showed her how she should be living, how she should be treated and he does it with no hidden agenda! Honestly you will just fall in love with Wes' whole character.
"I want to let you know when you're being a royal pain in my ass. I want to come home and see those gorgeous hazel eyes looking back at me every day, and I want to lay you down and make love to you every night - in our bed. I want to tackle every fucking thing thrown my way, but I want to tackle them with you."
Lenni was also so easy to fall in love with. Her past will make you hurt and make you get angry for her and then you will respect her character and realize how strong she is. Readers will relate in someway or just simply understand her past. For someone who has had to become weary and protective of her heart she still manages to have a kind and selfless heart and I don't think she ever stood a chance trying to keep the walls up when it comes to Wes and Elli. At one stage in the book there is a decision to be made that will have you shouting "NOOOOO" at your reading device but even then I couldn't even be mad at Lenni because it was made selflessly and from the best place possible. Lenni really did continue to grow and I loved going along on the journey with her.
I've said so much about just how much I love this book and the characters, I could still gush about plenty more but you'll just have to buy the book to find out just how amazing it is. I actually couldn't put this down, it hurt my heart, made me smile and laugh, and Randa just made me fall in love with every aspect of this book. The feels are so present throughout this book, so real and it done exactly what I love about reading - it completely took me out of my world and placed me in a new one where I got lost for hours in the characters and their journey and that's what makes an amazing story. All the characters are so lovable! I can't wait for more of Cam and Jade! - Jade/ Amber same thing. *shrugs* lol! CAM IS MINE. I honestly just can't wait to see what Randa brings us next :-)
"I want real, gritty, passionate and all-consuming. I want a love so real it leaves the sun jealous of our nights and the moon jealous of our days."
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian I Dig Good Books.
I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for a fair and honest review.
WOW! That's the first word that comes to mind. This book was absolutely phenomenal! The characters, the writing, the detail, the description, and oh the emotions! It's heavy and heartfelt and light and funny. It's chalk full of emotions of all sorts. Trust me when I say, your emotions will be all over the board! There were points where I was angry as all get out at both Wes and Lenni and I loved it. Then not too far from that I was incredibly happy with them both. It's true magic when an author has the ability to pull emotions from her readers like that!
Yes, this is a romance book. It's also got a hint of suspense, has a dark side, and has some humor. It's full of love. It's got a story line that reaches out and grips your soul and doesn't release its hooks once you read the last page. It has a story line that keeps with you even after you're done. I think it's one of those story lines that makes you think deeply.
The details...oh the details and descriptions. It was so easy to picture the scenery, the characters, and visualize what was going on. The beach house was incredibly described and makes it sound like a place I want to take a vacation to! It sounds like one of those places where you just relax, forget your troubles, and melt into the beach.
So, as this author is a debut author, I'm incredibly impressed and hate even classifying her as such. She has such an in depth writing that I don't think you could tell it's her debut novel. She is absolutely going into my one-click author category and I can't wait to read her next work. I'm certain it will be brilliant!
I was sent an ARC of this book by the author, Randa Lynn and I’ll be honest and say I knew nothing about it before I started it. By the end of the first few pages I was hooked. This a beautiful story with characters that you will absolutely fall in love with.
Wes is everything you want from a book boyfriend. He is a sexy as heck single dad whos main focus is his daughter, Ellison. He has been her only parent since his wife walked out on them when Ellison was a tiny baby.
Lenni is trying to put herself back together following the end of an abusive relationship. She needs to get away from the pitying stares of people who think she has been dumped by her fiancé.
When these two meet the sparks fly immediately. Lenni helps out Elli when she gets hurt and gets her back to Wes. The more time they spend together the more the attraction grows. This isn’t an Insta love epic love story. Its a slow burn, realistic tale of two people that need to learn how to be what the other needs.
These two have so many obstacles to overcome. I don’t want to give away any of the story so I wont go into details!
This book is so well written! Its difficult to believe this is Randa Lynns debut novel. The story is well paced. Its not an rush through the story. Did I kinda guess where the story line was going? Yes, BUT how the author takes is there is what matters. You will love every minute of the journey Lynn takes you on.
I am so excited to see what comes next from this author!
5 star must read! One of my top reads of 2015 so far!
Oh my Wes. You don’t just get any sweeter than a man whose life revolves around his daughter. It’s Wes and Scooter against the world. A southern charmer who has his life content with the path he’s on, for now. But that all changes when he finds Lenni on the side of the road, on a dark night while she’s on her way to finding her own contentment. Needing a life changing direction, Lenni uses her time to find her own new path. One that leads straight to Scooter and ultimately, Wes.
Always is a great start for this debut author. I was charmed from beginning to end. I was made to feel the pain from the dark secrets Lenni has to carry with her and that are still fresh. I think my heart burst from the love that Wes shows his daughter. I had to get a cold drink when Wes said and did things like this:
“I bring my hand down to her face, lightly strumming my thumb over her bottom lip, daring her to release it from the hold of her teeth. When she does, she drinks in a big gasp of air. I’d stop, but this move is already in play and I’m not quitter…”
Oh yes. Wes has got some bad country boy in him, with his ever present baseball cap… I am done for!! I was impressed with how Wes and Lenni were written to overcome the battles that needed to be won. I completely connected with the secondary characters and I am excited to know that there will be more books involving them. I look forward to seeing the evolution of Randa Lynn and what she will next bring to the table.
Always is the debut novel for Randa Lynn but you would never know it. This story is well written and captivating. I was pulled in from the beginning and this story never let go of my attention until the end. I simply couldn't put it down; I kept telling myself just one more chapter.
The characters were well written and very realistic. Lenni was a broken women because of all she endured in her relationship with Ryan. Wes was a single father, who was charming and handsome. He was an amazing father to Elli. Elli was adorable and stole every scene she was in. This was a great love story between these three characters. This story is not just about love but also about learning to appreciate what you have.
The secondary characters were fun to read about also. Lenni and Wes had an amazing group of friends. I felt like they added so much to the story and I couldn't wait to learn more about them. This is definitely a group of people I could see myself being friends with.
Always is an exceptionally well written book. I love a second chance love story and this one is one of the best I've ever read. This is one of those stories that will ALWAYS stay with you. I cannot wait to read more from Randa Lynn.
This book deals with some really dark issues, such as domestic violence, children's fears, death, and heartache. This book also deals with love, support, honor, courage, commitment, and tenderness. Lenni (Leonora) and her friend Amber go to the lake house for two weeks after Lenni has left Ryan. She's sunbathing when a shriek gets her attention. Of course, she has to go in search of said shrieker and finds the person, Ellison (Elli for short). Her father Wes shows up a few minutes later, and fireworks almost ensue when this strange woman has his child in her arms. What happens? This book kept me gripped for just over 3 hours straight, not able to take my eyes off of reading it, needing something to drink but refusing to get up and get it until I finished. As dark as parts of this book are, especially after Lenni tells her father what happened between her and Ryan, to how much love Weston has for Lenni it is an incredible read! I am hoping there will be more from this author in the future, with these characters, because they all deserve a voice like the ones she gave Wes and Lenni.

Wes...OMG Wes...A single dad 1000% devoted to his daughter - how can you NOT love that?? Wes was your average young man with a girlfriend - pregnancy was not on his radar until said girlfriend showed up with the positive pregnancy test. He did the best he could - they got married, bought a house, and had a baby. He fell head over heals in love with his daughter Ellison but Vanessa did not. Deciding she can't handle being a mom and wife, Vanessa bails.
Lenni is the girl that fell in love with the idea of being in love. Her relationship with Ryan is abusive, mentally and physically. After 4 years of being belittled and beaten, she has had enough and leaves. While on vacation with her best friend, Amber, she meets Elli and Wes.
Lenni and Wes together are AMAZING. Wes is the sweet, caring, loving man that Lenni needs and Lenni is the strong, loving mother figure that Wes and Elli need.
Elli is the perfect addition to this book. Her know it all 5 year old innocence is awesome! The antics of a 5 year old are hilarious!
This book was AMAZING! Randa Lynn is a new author and one that I will continue to read and follow. I can not wait to see what else she has in store!
Oh how this story got me! Wow! Absolutely loved the ride with Wes and Lenni. Love and life isn't always easy or carved out the way we plan it to be. But it doesn't mean we have to never hope for what we deserve. Lenni had a rough relationship with her fiancée and finally found the courage to leave. She decides it's time to take her bestie and visit her family's lake house for a few weeks. Fate intervenes more than she would ever imagine on this trip to finding herself. Wes.....oh this southern gentleman that is sexy as sin! Will they find what they deserve in each other? Will love finally conquer all? I identified with both characters very well and truly just loved the whole story. I cannot wait for more from this new author. You would never know this is a first book published for her!
Wes, Elli and Lenni and now Cala what a beautiful family. Wes and Lenni had a journey separately and together that brought them together then drove them apart but not really they never stopped loving each other and my favorite little girl Ellison love her. I appreciated all the other characters Cameron, Damien, Zoe, Amber, and both of there parents. Mr. Taylor and the Blackmons' great people. I absolutely enjoyed this story... An epic love story can't wait to read the next story. INCREDIBLE
I'm in love with wes...He's such a husband material. The Daddy/Daughter thing in this book is sooo adorable.
Love this story...Is about two different broken hearted peoplemet and try to heal themselves and each other. They're trying to move on, to forget the past, to never let the past ruin their future. It's such a sweet and adorable story. There are happy, sad , angry moments here, a lot of laugh too (Thanx to Amber, Zoe, Cam and Dame).
This is book for you if you're looking something sweet and adorable.
This was such an amazing love story. I was routing for them the whole time. Although they tried to break them apart and almost did their love was stronger. lenny was amazing the way she opened her heart to that little girl brought tears to my eyes. Wes what can I say about this amazing man. He was so confident, loving, loyal the backbone to an amazing family. All together I loved it I can honestly re read this story over and over. Thank you..
I loved this book so much!! I honestly didn't know what to expect because I didn't read the blurb. You wouldn't even know this was the author's first book!! Wes Taylor is perfection. I loved the whole gang. It was fast paced and you never get bored which means no skimming pages. I could definitely reread this one again!!
I loved the main character Wes and his daughter Elli, that was a beautiful relationship, and Lenni just fell in perfectly with them. However the book moved quite slowly, and the scene when Lenni confronted Vanessa seemed totally out of character considering her history of domestic abuse and in her profession as a lawyer. However, all in all a pleasant read, and I enjoyed the writer's style.
