To put it simply, I inhaled this book! The story was riveting and kept me reading until the wee hours of the night! All In is a Swedish romance set in the merciless world of corporate finance. It is well documented, realistic and perfectly written. But above all, this book is an irresistible roller coaster of emotions that kept me flipping the pages.

David Hammar is Sweden’s most infamous venture capitalist and corporate raider. He is a ruthless and arrogant businessman known for crushing companies and people. This modern-day pirate started from nothing and has been immensely successful. David comes from a tough past, his story was heartbreaking and made me admire him for what he was able to achieve.

He is planning the biggest and riskier deal his firm has ever done: a hostile takeover of Investum, one of Sweden’s largest and oldest companies. This deal is very personal, though and is intended to take revenge on the owners of the company, the upper class family De la Grip. To make things easier, he seeks to get someone from the family on his side and gets in contact with the daughter of Investum’s CEO, Natalia De la Grip, but quickly realizes that she is loyal to her father.

Natalia and David have much in common. Their background is different, but they are outsiders. I felt for them. Nathalia is a corporate finance talent in a very misogynist world. She is a savvy and strong willed businesswoman, who wants to be respected for her abilities. David is prisoner of his quest for revenge. He is convinced that the downfall of the De la Grip family will set him free from his past, even if he crushes Natalia in the process. But he can’t stay away from her. Their chemistry is intense, these two are destined to be together, but nothing will be easy for them.

David is totally flawed, what he did to Natalia was wrong, but I appreciated how his character grew as the story progressed. Natalia is a wonderful heroine, generous, genuine and forgiving.

Natalia and David's journey was deeply emotional, sexy, romantic and compulsively readable. All In is a story to get lost in, with unforgettable characters! And the Swedish virtual sightseeing I did on Google while reading was an added bonus!

This book is the first in a trilogy, but it can be read as a standalone and has a HEA.

Generally, this was a good book, with a kind of prestige-ish language, that underlined the story about revenge, romance and Swedish finance and nobility, perfectly. Another aspect of the book that I liked was the foreign phrases the translators chose to keep. It set a certain mood for the book. The one thing that irritated me a little was the ending. I was initially intrigued by the Swedish setting and the contextual world of the financial elite. However, the characters did not live up to their setting; thinly drawn, stereotypical, and immature. The plot was predictable and melodramatic in a cliched way. Also, I think something got lost in the translation from Swedish to English, and it made for jarring moments that pulled me away from the story. Da das mein erstes Buch von Simona Ahrnstedt war, hatte ich keinerlei Erwartungen an "Die Erbin". Daher bin ich jetzt umso froher, dass ich das Buch endlich gelesen habe, denn Davids und Natalias Geschichte war genau meins ♥

I just had to finish the last 50% of the book in one sitting, couldn't put it down. I have to admit, this is one heck of a good book. As highly as I put english types of books, this comes straight up there and to be honest is setting the bar way up high now for the other Swedish books. I'm sold.

I loved the characters, the geographic (I live there), the summer time, the plot, the conversations, the business talk. EVERYTHING. The wait was worth it, 6 months I waited for this. Can't say I can wait ...more

I chose to read this book out of curiosity. Romance fiction is a big guilty-pleasure moneymaker in the U.S. but in Sweden it's even more of a hidden guilty pleasure than here. Harlequin books, for example, are rather popular in Sweden but are sold at supermarkets and gas stations and are tracked as magazines. This particular novel by licensed psychologist and cognitive therapist Simona Ahrnstedt I chose to read this book out of curiosity. Romance fiction is a big guilty-pleasure moneymaker in the U.S. but in Sweden it's even more of a hidden guilty pleasure than here. Harlequin books, for example, are rather popular in Sweden but are sold at supermarkets and gas stations and are tracked as magazines. This particular novel by licensed psychologist and cognitive therapist Simona Ahrnstedt is the first of a trilogy and is Kensington Publishing's first romance in translation. ALL IN has received raves by U.S. romance authors known to me. (Yes, yes, I read romance but I still have a brain, so there.) Eloisa James, Tessa Dare, Sandra Brown, Lori Foster and Christina Lauren, all known in the romance or romantic suspense genres, have praised this.

I do see its good points as a contemporary romance novel. 1) It takes place in Stockholm, a more unusual location for a romance since I'm inclined to associate Scandinavia with dark and gloomy mysteries and thrillers. And it's educational to see what life is like, albeit only for the rich, in Sweden. 2) It's interesting to see that love and romantic relationships don't differ much between U.S. and Sweden and that classism, elitism, prejudice, misogyny, racism, etc. exist as much there as here.

To summarize the plot briefly, we have a very rich, successful, pulled-himself-up-by-the-bootstraps venture capitalist/corporate raider David Hammar of Hammar Capital, planning the hostile takeover of Investum, a very powerful company owned by the De la Grip family. The family is very upper-class and wealthy and "as close to royalty as you could get without actually being royal." Investum, the company, controls almost one tenth of Sweden's GNP and owns the biggest bank in the country.

This takeover and planned financial ruin of the De la Grip family are motivated by revenge. Although that is never a good reason, the reader can see some justification for David's actions. There are dark secrets in his past tied to the family that will come out as the story progresses and, in addition, the more we learn about the family, the less we like most of its members.

But remember that this is a romance. We need a love interest for David. That will be Natalie De la Grip, intelligent, well-educated, successful businesswoman who just happens to be underappreciated in her family and the family business. When David and Natalie first meet at David's lunch invitation, Natalie is puzzled by his interest in her. David's motivation, of course, is to see if Natalie is vulnerable to being used as insider information about the family business. And so it goes. They become involved personally. Will they have any chance at love? Will they ever be honest with each other? Are they even interested in having a relationship beyond the physical? And, BTW, just as David has secrets in his past, there are secrets surrounding Natalie and her ties to the family.

As a romance this is a fairly complete book, with many characters, lots of sex, issues of revenge, love, loyalty, forgiveness, racism, prejudice, classism and elitism. It is weak in that it deals only with the upper echelons of Swedish society but that is most often what the romance lover is looking for. We have our dukes in historical romances and our billionaires in the contemporary ones and show little interest in buying romances about people of the lower-middle class.

But another weakness is the relative shallowness of the characters. I did not find myself liking anyone in the book, not even the main male and female protagonists. Everyone is self-absorbed and self-centered, superficial and lacking depth. Well, you might say "What else should I expect in a romance?" My answer would be, as a longtime romance reader, that I expect more appealing characters and a bit more character development, especially in the case of this book which was written by a psychologist.

Reading this book was an experiment of sort. I was complaining about Frenchmen in American romances being completely un-French, except for their cute accent of course. I wondered if I would be annoyed if the main character had any other nationality. The GR friend who loved the book I complained about recommended this book (which she found boring). I loved the details the author included about the actual careers of the main characters. The secondary characters also added to the story, and were a nice mix. The sex scenes seemed a bit much, even for a romance novel, but that's going by American standards. Finally, there were some definite romance cliches BUT it happens. "All In" is an entertaining book. Reading something that was originally written in the Swedish language did have some drawbacks, but nothing that I felt was that off-putting. I was concerned I wouldn't care for the book because of this, but once I got further into the story, I realized we are all pretty muc The ratings from Amazon and Goodreads are different. "All In" is an entertaining book. Reading something that was originally written in the Swedish language did have some drawbacks, but nothing that I felt was that off-putting. I was concerned I wouldn't care for the book because of this, but once I got further into the story, I realized we are all pretty much the same. Obviously, if you're not familiar with Sweden, you aren't going to understand the relevance and distance of the cities and places mentioned. You could look them up if you feel the need. I just decided to let it go and come up with my own approximations with distance based on how the story was presented.

The writing was good. The financial part of the book was fascinating, and not too heavy-laden with information that I didn't understand and that would make it boring. I read reviews here where the reviewers said they hated the characters. That's not such a horrible thing. If she wrote them well enough for you to hate them, well, I'd say the author did her job. I don't believe in writing reviews with complete personal opinion. If we don't like a story, then it's because it's not our kind of story. It doesn't mean it's bad. I will say, if you don't like explicit sex scenes, then this book isn't for you. There are a few and they are not for the G-rated fans. Sex scenes are completely fine to whatever degree someone wants to write them as long as they fit into the story, and these do.

Have I read other novels I've liked more? Yes, I have. This book is still a good read. It's consistent with its' story-line and the editing is good. Nothing is perfect, but readers shouldn't be expecting to read for perfection. You should be reading for fun, entertainment, and escape. If you don't like strong career women who are also naive and weak in their personal lives, strong over-bearing rich men who are classically handsome, and the obnoxious know-it-all villains, then "All In" isn't for you. This story has the handsome bad-boy, beautiful career-oriented smart woman, and their sidekicks. Some of you will like it more than me, less than me, and the same as me depending on your expectations, but over-all, the story is fine, and it's not boring. Am I attached to the characters long after reading this? No, but that just helps me move on to another story without dragging this one along. ...more

But kudos to Ahrnstedt for not being afraid to take that first step.

David Hammar, venture capitalist and corporate pirate, is one of my favorite kinds of heroines. David Hammar, venture capitalist and corporate pirate, is one of my favorite kinds of heroines. A little bit broken, a lot broody, powerful and filthy stinkin' rich. Looked down on the upper echelons of society for being noveau riche, having had the audacity to raise himself from the slums of Sweden to rub elbows at their corporate conference tables, David was an inspiration to the little guy. A sort of David v. Goliath story. David has a long history with the society snots, having received a scholarship to the same hoity toity boarding school where he was made to endure horrendous hazing. Now David's corporate piracy is largely driven by his need for vengeance against those who wronged him. He was a dynamic hero with depth and strength of purpose. I thought Ahrnstedt developed his character well and I liked him even though his behavior was, at times, less than desirable.

Natalia de la Grip was born to privilege, a middle sibling in the financial dynasty which David hates the most. Natalia is a corporate mogul in her own right, one of the up and coming names in corporate finance. Not having the support of her very traditional family who believe a woman's place is to serve her husband, Natalia is trying very hard to do everything on her own, only relying on her famous last name when she has to. I enjoyed having a smart and capable heroine for once instead of the naive virginal assistant or intern that seem so prevalent in the billionaire trope. Natalia was strong-willed and determined, yet she was still vulnerable to her misogynistic family and David's machinations. It was easy to get drawn into her plight and form an emotional connection to her character.

I really enjoyed all the corporate dynamics and scheming in this story, and Ahrnstedt did a good job at detailing this aspect. I actually enjoyed that part more than the romance and the individual character development. I found myself skimming the story quite a bit to get back to the scheme b/c all those other parts seemed to drag.

I had a love-hate relationship with another aspect of this book, and that was all the chauvinism. I hated that the heroine (and all women) were subject to the ridiculous male sentiments, but I loved that those parts were so well-written and detailed. It really highlighted the issue with women in business and gender inequality in the workplace. The Swedish politics and setting was definitely unique and interesting, and I enjoyed that aspect of the story as well. I have read other books where characters passed through Stockholm or somewhere similar, but this is the first that actually got into the nitty gritty of Swedish society and custom. I liked seeing the similarities and differences between American and Swedish corporate politics.

Wow!!! This book completely took me by surprise! The writing is truly amazing, the story captivating, and the characters extremely well-written and developed. David is a man that appears to have it all together on the outside, but has personal demons he is wrestling with on the inside. I couldn't help but admire the life he created for himself after learning more about his troubled past. He has his mind set on revenge, but never expected to have feelings for Natalia. His inner struggle was obvious, as well as the depth of his feelings for Natalia. However, what he did to Natalie surprised me.
Natalia is an amazing character...strong-willed, independent, but at the same time, loyal to her father. She has succeeded in a world dominatated by men, but even with her success, she still is somewhat of an outsider. The chemistry between David and Natalia is undeniable, but will they be able to go against what they believe in order to be together? I loved following their journey and watching the characters grow as the story unfolded. Things are far from easy for the main characters, but then again, life is far from easy. The author is an awesome storyteller and the story flows amazingly smooth from beginning to end. Overall, this was an emotional, but also a riveting story, with characters you can't help but to want to see get their happy ending. I would strongly recommend this book, and am looking forward to reading more by this author!

I received an advanced copy of this book through a giveaway. All In was the first foreign language romance to be translated and published. It's basically a rich people romance. Compared to Fifty Shades of Gray (extremely off-putting, if you ask me) this novel follows a self-made Rich Person and a born-into-money Rich Person as they hook up, fall in love, and deal with the trails and tribulations of being Scandanavian Rich People. This book exceeded my expectations! Once i started this book it was quite impossible to put it down! When i started reading the book i could not get over how well the characters connect with each other. Also the appeal of a successful young woman standing up to her patriarchy father while falling in love with her family's business rival is defiantly a must read! All in was originally written in Swedish, "En enda natt". After like a decade of trying to learn the language I only know how to say "I don't speak Swedish". I haven't read any books by Swedish writers before but the cover called her romance queen, so I had to give the book a chance.

This is a type of porn for straight women: a fantasy about a princess attracting an alpha male Prince Charming. Maybe to make readers feel better about all of this reinforcement of heteronormative, cisgender stereotypes, there's a lot of talk about how the narrator and fantasy object both support female corporate bosses (and immigrants). I'd say it's written in a Young Adult style but the sex scenes are more explicit than you'd expect in that genre.

I have never read the romance genre before, but this book was recommended to me by a friend. She described it as a romance novel with a compelling, female-positive plot, and she was right! I really enjoyed this book. I was completely drawn in by the intrigue of the high-finance world where the novel takes place.
