Pam Adams (1919-2010) was a British children's book author and illustrator, and a graphic designer. Born in Swindon in 1919, she was educated at the Swindon Art College and at the Central School of Art in London, and worked for many years as a graphic designer in the advertising field. In the 1970s she returned to Swindon, and teamed up with Michael Twinn, who had recently founded the publishing house Child’s Play. Her first children's book, There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly, was published in 1972, and remains a bestseller for the publishing house. After writing and illustrating countless other picture-books, Adams died in 2010, at the age of 91.

Gift from Harper's grandmother

It's an okay story but the illustrations get really out of hand and a little tough to follow towards the end of the book

This book shows order and repetition, going through and listing everything that happens in order each page, while adding the new character. I really like the cutouts and busy illustrations of this book because it really shows the clutter and confusion of so much going on in the book.

Very cute and repetitive for young readers. Text is big and visuals are very helpful. Cutouts within the story help to highlight characters being talked about.

An old favourite. I remember my mum reciting this rhyme to me when I was young. Repetition and rhyming within a board book. Perfect for young children.

Fab. Loved all the shapes changing on each page to tell the story and focus the readers attention on particular aspects of the picture or words

Read again and spotted the little birds building a nest and it’s evolvement at every turn of the page!
