An account if what oceanographers can tell from measurements about the general circulation of the ocean. This book is not for the non-expert because as the reader you need to understand the laws that governs how a fluid (ocean water) behaves on a rotating sphere (Earth). Some entry-level ocean dynamics is definitely helpful and required. Apart from that the examples are well chosen, there is hardly any math and thus the theory could be understood without any complicated computer model. Example computer programs are provided as Microsoft BASIC at the end of the book.
