Another solid entry into the well-done 24/7 Science Behind the Scenes line from Scholastic. This title in the Medical Files series explores true-life cases of parasites such as guinea worm, tapeworm, and sand fly. This strength of this series lies in the excellent use of graphic layouts to actually enhance the content. A favorite feature is the use of highlighting and symbols to identify the diagnosis process within each story. Other features include interviews with experts in the field, notable news on agencies addressing these issues, resources to explore, plus questions to ask yourself if this might be a career path for you. The series is designed for struggling high school readers but with accessible features and high-interest topics, even younger readers should enjoy. The subject of this particular book might be too much for the more squeamish, but definitely steer them towards other titles in the series.
