When I read the synopsis for “The Love Square”, I couldn’t help wondering how on earth was that supposed to work out? Let me tell you ‘the love triangle’ is so passé now; let me introduce you to ‘the love square’.
Have you ever read a book which makes you want to sit down the characters and have a good talk to them? Or, if that didn’t work, smack them on the head to knock some sense into them? “The Love Square” is one of those books.
Some books are driven by the story; some are character driven.

Unfortunately I couldn't relate to this story as much as I originally thought I would.
I was getting into it (it was kind of slow, at first for me), but then it all went to a direction I was actually expecting, but that I didn't like.
It was unfair to some of the characters and something that could have been prevented with a good heart-to-heart talk.
And then things get more complicated and there's a plot twist, that isn't really a twist for me. But

The Love Square by Jessica Calla was a double love story in one book. It was not a love triangle, it was a Love Square!

Claire, a small town girl from Nebraska, finds herself living the dream in California. The only problem - she hates it! When she runs into Dylan, her life changes and he shows her California in a whole new light. Quickly becoming best friends, Dylan and Claire fall in love, but neither will admit it. After all, Claire has a f

The Love Square is a fresh take on your typical "Love Triangle. Calla's novel is beautifully written with emotion seeping off of every page. Everything from the characters to the plot all the way to the intensity level is spot on and absolutely amazing. Calla is a newer author to me as I have only read two of her other books, however if she keeps writing books like this I know many other readers will have this author on their watch list! If your in the mood for a light yet emotional read, this b ...more

We have all heard about a love triangle, but the love square? Yes, this book is definitely about a love square.

Dylan and Clare meet by accident, literally. She left her home in Nebraska to move to LA. Still new to the city, she bumps into the incredibly hot and sexy Dylan Barnes. They start a friendship that slowly moves into something more. Although neither of them will admit their feelings, they continue their platonic status.

Alex and Jenna meet at a birthday party, since the moment Alex sees

This is the first book I have read by this author and probably will not be my last. The story flowed really well and all though I am not a fan of third person because I usually find it hard to connect with the characters I didn’t find that to be true in this book. The authors’ writing was on point and I had no problem connecting with all the characters involved.

The plot in this book was pretty deep and intense at times. I am not going to go into the story as I feel it is not your

The Love Square surprised me with its incredibly inventive plot! I love high-concept books, especially those containing romance. I've read quite a few books featuring love triangles--but a love square? It was fun to explore this unique romantic complication, and I think a lot of readers can relate to the characters' struggles and near-misses as they search for "the one."

The tension between the principle couples made me want to shout at them "Just kiss already!" but in the best possible way. :)

The Love Square is not like any other book I have read! It's sweet, spice, and everything nice. Jessica Calla has a talent for writing, and needs to continue on things like this. Romance is impeccable, and the writing is good. Plot is great and characters is developed! This may be the first book I read of Jessica's, but definitely not the last.

Oh what a tangled web we weave.... Dylan is into Clare. Clare likes Dylan too, but Clare is engaged to Lucas. So when Dylan visits his childhood friend, Alex, he hooks up with his friend, Jenna. The problem? Jenna is totally in love with Alex! He loves her too but has commitment issues. Let me introduce you, readers, to The Love Square.

I enjoyed this one a lot. I’ve read Calla’s Sheridan Hall series and I really enjoy her writing style. In The Love Square she gives us four really likable charac

Clever, fresh, witty & quirky fun—squared. Loads better than the usual “love triangle”, hands down. You fall in love with the characters quick. It’s easy to get mad at them for going in different directions than you want them to go. The tension is palpable & I kept yelling at them to “spill it”. You wonder if they're ever going to get it right & are so happy when they finally figure it out.
“The Love Square” just works on so many levels.

I have to admit that I don't really know where to start with this review. The Love Square is my first book my Jessica Calla and it won't be my last. I went into this one not really knowing what to expect, and yet the blurb sounded really interesting. I can tell you that this book will not be for everyone. As the title implies, this is way more than a love triangle and there are many players here. If you don't like angst, drama or complicated

I have to say when I read the synopsis for “The Love Square” I was intrigued and confused because I just couldn’t help wondering how this would work out. And let me tell you, I'm so sick of reading love triangles now that I hate them with a burning passion, so the ‘the love square’ was a new take I never considered and I enjoyed it.

This book was a little on the unusual side. We've all heard of a love triangle, but a love square? There were so many way this book could have gone wrong and spiraled into some torrid, sex for the sake of revenge disaster. But I think the author did an amazing job keeping it classy.
From the very beginning you know who is going to end up together, but when Jenna and Dylan get together it'll throw you for a loop because they really do seem to fall-obsessively-in love with each o

I would rate this more like a 3.75. Which is a weird rating for me but.... I loved Clare and Alex. They were wonderfully flawed. Each of the 4 had some flaws but those two came across as more endearing. In my opinion they were the better people. I loved the individual friendships on opposite coasts but when they all came together it was just off. Now I need to insert my spoilers, (view spoiler) ...more

I'm aware this book has some glowing reviews, and I can't help but wonder why it didn't really click for me.

I couldn't really connect to any of the characters, the writing felt weird to me for some reason, and to be completely honest the whole miscommunication/misinformation thing got on my nerves a little bit.

Like, everything could have been pretty much resolved from the start if the characters simply talked to one another. And another thing that was missing for me was the connection between Dy

My rating: 4

The concept behind this plot was what made me want to read it. It was interesting and I really wanted to see how the author pulled it off! This was my first book by Jessica.

The story is very character driven and it wasn't hard to enjoy these people and to relate to them! Clare and Dylan meet by accident... when she literally smashes her truck into his tiny new car! The banter between these two was so fun! She was new to the city, and allowed a friendship to grow with Dylan who did th

The Love Square is a peerless NA novel that revolves around four matchless characters who are:
Nebraskan: Clare Davis
Minor League Ballplayer: Alex Popovich
Up-and-coming movie star: Dylan Barnes
Ballroom dancer-slash-office worker: Jenna Stecco
A character driven novel that is told in 3rd person POV. The authors writing style fits perfectly and everything flowed through flawlessly at a perfect pace. This is not your typical romance novel as it branches between California and New York & four mc's.

I liked this book. It was romantic and funny without turning into the boilerplate porn story that so many romances are these days. Here's the background: Dylan is a movie star who meets Clare who has just moved to California from Nebraska to run a bookstore. She has a fiancé back in Nebraska. She and Dylan become best friends. Alex and Jenna are best friends. She's a dancer, he's a baseball player; they live in NYC. There's some mild sex, longing glances, a few misunderstandings and then, all's ...more

*NOTE: I received this book from the author for a fair and honest review.*

If you like to read love triangles you're going to love The Love Square. This is Jessica's debut novel and she has done a wonderful job making me fall in love with all four characters. This story put me through a roller coaster of emotions. I laughed, got mad and even shed a tear - everything I love in a contemporary romance novel. I was totally hooked by the concept of this book. With four people and three romantic pairings among them, I had no idea how the author was going to give all of these characters their happy ending. The book reads like a romance novel but without the predictability which I found fresh and unique. I've honestly never seen a book like this. I loved seeing two such strong male/female plutonic (somewhat) relationships blossom as these did. I think if you love movies like When Harry Met Sally, then yo ...more

Dylan, Alex, Jenna and Clare. They are the four corners of the love square. As the story unfolds, and the couple's lives become entwined, I literally wanted to yell at them not to do things, and wanted to cheer when things were going the direction I wanted them to. I think that's a sign of a great story, and a sign of an exceptional debut. I can definitely recommend this book.

A brilliant standalone!
I really enjoyed this from start to finish, loved the characters and where it was set, there was a bit of ‘will they won’t they’ which was a little frustrating but in a good way, you were actually willing the characters to be together. I loved how there were 2 stories blended into 1. I’ll be reading more from this author!

This story had everything for me, unique characters, fun concept, and stellar writing. Calla has a knack for getting the reader so drawn into the story that we feel like friends with the fictional characters and therefore feel the need to yell at them a little bit. But it’s never an eyeroll. It’s a « Stop messing around and be together, damn it! » I truly enjoyed this read.
