Book Three in the Awakening Desires series. Carly Ames has yearned for Nathan Connors for more years than she cares to think about. One wild night of sex with him resulted in their quick engagement. But now that she has Nathan, she's not quite sure that she can handle him. Big and tough, Nathan is very well suited to his job as a sheriff's deputy. Protective and forthright, he is definitely used to being in charge. Now he wants to be in control of her sexual pleasure, but fears his sexual preferences will scare a good girl like her. As circumstances conspire to keep them apart, Nathan senses that Carly is having second thoughts. Now he must convince her that she's more than woman enough to meet his demands, in and out of the bedroom, because now that he's captured Carly, there is no way he is letting her go.
Once upon a time N.J. had the idea that she would like to quit her job at the bookstore, sell everything she owned, leave her hometown, and write romance novels in a place where no one knew her. And she did. Two years later, she went back to the bookstore and her hometown and settled in for another seven years.
One day she gave notice at her job on a Friday morning. On Sunday afternoon, she received a tentative acceptance for her first erotic romance novel and life would never be the same.
N.J. Walters is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.
Carly & Nathan's story started in book 2 (Erin's Fancy) so it's starts out with them already engaged but struggling a bit to find time together because of their work schedules, planning their wedding and the fact that Carly's parents have come to visit for the month prior to the wedding.
Nathan (mmmmmmm) what - a - man. He is every woman's dream. His desire to be in charge in the bedroom excites Carly but fears she isn't enough to satisfy him. The problem is, their relationship took off out of the gate so fast.
Both characters were very likable and everything worked out in the end but I was a little put off with their reluctance to have a conversation with each other about theri fears but instead had a lot of "inner" dialogue. I also found it hard to believe they couldn't make it a priority to just say to her parents "hey, we need some couple time so we're going out for a few hours".
Ultimately, the author came through and I did get caught up in the story.
Ho hum - this one was interesting enough but somehow the characters in it failed to really capture my attention. Perhaps the set up was a little too cliche - the town cop and the local diner waitress-owner hook up over hot sex and get engaged. Both are riddled with self-doubts - "Can I handle it?", "Am I too over-protective?", "Did I leave the iron on?" - that could easily have been handled over a few long conversations and a nice, hot bath. Don't get me wrong - this is a fine novel. It just didn't quite appeal to me.
i was really looking forward to Nathan and Carly story. it actually starts in Erin's story and then continue in capturing Carly. i do like strong alpha males who dominate the relationship but theirs a fine line that can make the alpha guy look like a over bearing ass. at times i didn't like Nathan with his attitude and behaviour towards Carly but after he'd fucked Carly like an animal he did realise he was being a total dick and apologise with really sweet words. OK story, good HEA
