A fascinating story set in the woods not far from where I grew up. A satisfying blend of personal, family, local, world, social and material history.

Such an interesting book on New France and the family who started it all. It is sad to think that there is nothing left of New France.

Fantastic book for anyone interested in Canada in the Victorian Era as well as the indirect influences that Europe's political and social issues which impacted on "New France". Electric lights, hand-built railway systems, carving civilization from wilderness ... an excellent read made better by the fact it is all true.
