This was a perfectly serviceable collegiate dictionary that was my desk reference for decades--which is the problem. The copyright of the revised edition of the Random House College Dictionary is 1984. You won't even find the word "internet" here, let alone such words in my shiny new Meriam-Webster (11th Edition) as: microblogging, smartphone, social media and tweet. So, with the new year, out with the old, in with the new!
This is my favorite dictionary. It has occupied a spot on my bookshelf for many years, and I admit I use it on a regular basis to look words up. The thumb indexing tabs on the side of the book make it easy to quickly go to the correct section you are looking for. Even in this age of computer dictionaries and kindle dictionaries, I still find myself turning to my trusty Random House hardcover college dictionary. Old habits die hard!
