Presents anatomical and aerodynamic drawings as well as construction details for building a training machine to provide suitable fowl with the physical and mental stimulation required to fly
This Is another book that fits under the label "unusual," and it's more unusual than the previous one I posted. Perhaps "strange" or "bizarre" would be better terms to describe this one. First published in Australia, and then republished by Ten Speed Press in California, this one seems to take teaching a chicken to fly seriously. It starts off by pointing out that wild birds who easily and gracefully migrate thousands of miles each year used to be flightless and stuck to the ground like humans. The book is not long, only 35 pages, but it contains numerous graphs and "blueprints" designed to help you teach your chicken to fly. It includes a wind tunnel that a chicken can train in, as well as an ultralight weight "chickpack" with a wind-up motor to assist chickens wearing goggles to protect their eyes. But the motor has to be rewound every five minutes, so there goes long distance migration. There is a chapter entitled "psychology" to help the reader teach his chicken assurance and confidence. However I did not see any information on why anyone would want to teach a chicken to fly better. As for me, maybe I'm lazy, but I'll just let evolution take care of that challenge.
Every poultry farmer and chicken owner should read this book. Please teach your chickens to fly - they want to learn so desperately! Great illustrations. Wish it were a bit longer!
