This is an amazing book with great illustrations that depict historical events that have occurred. I personally like the text because of it's none biased stance on many controversial historical acts(The Inquisition, the African slave trade, Pilgrims and Native American encounters, etc). This is a "reader friendly" book for kids 8+ years, and it has great pictures for those that just want to "picture walk" through it's pages.
While very interesting, there are things in it that seem to be rather antiquated now. Learning about how science has been manipulated might be akin to losing one's religion ...
