About the author

Lesley dreamed of being a writer, but studied law as her mother insisted she had "something to fall back on". Since joining Usborne Publishing, she has written and edited hundreds of books, from funny rhyming stories to an award-winning history book. Nowadays, she is often found recording books, too, in Usborne's very own recording studio.

A decent children's book I read for work; I needed a crash course in ancient Greek history. The book uses a conversational tone with humour thrown in among the cute cartoons. I would have loved this book as a child.

My only quibble is that the author differentiates in the book between the Greek and Roman names of the gods, yet calls Hades Pluto for some reason.

I picked up this book from the Acropolis museum in Athens, so kudos to me for being as close to the source as possible..lol

I enjoyed this book, its a fast and entertaining non fictional read about Greek history, with short text and lots of colourful illustrations and cheeky jokes along the way. A great book for children, I’d think. :)

The period covered in the book spans from a 800 BC to 338 BC - so there is a lot of information about the history, cultural and social aspects of the “Hellenes” during this period.
