I absolutely adore the way Rae writes! Every word seems to be just right. Her settings are magical, and she takes me right to Italy in the 1920's. She also takes me right into the heroine's mind. I couldn't stop reading this. A passionate, gentle, and thrilling love story.

A magical love story of Isobel’s first time away from home on her own, when she is forced to acknowledge that she doesn’t have to do what her family want her to do: marry for money and position. Isobel’s summer in Italy is described through her eyes as an artist – she sketches and paints what she sees and feels – adding to the vivid description of the book. Through Isobel’s eyes, Rae Summers paints a wonderful picture of the 1920s Italian coastal town of Positano – its landscapes and its people ...more

This problem of finance was one which had bedeviled the English aristocracy forever. Eldest sons inherited the family property and titles leaving the younger ones the choice of entering the Church or shifting to the British colonies to become a ‘sahib’ in India or Africa. The recently poor nobility were left with few options to restore their lost prestige. Having a daughter make a ‘good’ match, i.e. one wi

This story is a sensual delight. Set in the 1920’s Isobel visits Italy’s Amalfi coast. She soon forgets her reason for being there, when she meets the enigmatic Stefano. An artist, Isobel’s innocence makes her drawings two dimensional. Experiencing the beauty and ugliness of Italy between the wars matures her creativity, as she emerges from naive girl to womanhood.
Vivid imagery brings this sto

An Innocent Abroad by Romy Sommer
Isobel Harrington just left finishing school the summer of 1922. She was sent to visit relatives that lived in Italy and was hoping to find herself. She loved to draw and she got a chance to find some awesome breath taking scenes there to draw.
She found something else while there and she knew her parents had chosen for her to marry but she found that forbidden romance and hoped it would not just be for the holiday she was on.
Once summer was over she was expecte

An Innocent Abroad by Romy Sommer is set in Naples in the early 1920's. The setting is idyllic. The warmth of the Mediterranean being in complete contrast with the grey English weather.
Isabelle arrives from Shropshire to Italy for the summer. She is eighteen years old and is expected to make a match with the very rich Christopher. It is in Naples that she meets the dark and mysterious Stefano, whose face is to fill her dreams.
I enjoyed the story. The richness of the descriptions of the scenery m

I loved this book. Rae Summers creates the most beautiful books and An Innocent Abroad is a perfect example. It brimmed with sight and sound and a sophisticated sensuality that left me breathless. Isobel and Stefano were a marvel to read in this 1920's novella and I can't wait for more of Rae Summers.

"An Innocent Abroad" by Romy Sommer is one of those books that makes you want to keep reading just to find out what is going to happen. The story take place in the early 1920's and Isobel Harrington has just finished finishing school. She is sent to Italy to be with relatives, find herself and possibly find a suitable husband. Who she meets is Stefano and he may not be suitable at all.

I loved this book! A delicious historical romance that transported me to the citrus groves of Positano and made me long for the cocktail hour to be reinstated. Marvellous.

Love books by this author, they pull me in from the word go. This is the story of the sexual awakening of an upper class English girl on holiday in Italy. Great setting and the author effortlessly creates visual images of hot days in exotic villas. Recommended.
