I loved Soulmated from beginning to end. I was so ensnared by this book that I finished 75% of the book in one day! I loved seeing Lucky and Liam's relationship grow throughout the book. I loved seeing Lucky and Liam's empath powers develop as their connection to each other grows. Lucky is fiercely spirited, determined to choose her own d

Book 1 in a young adult paranormal series Joining of Souls. Considered a romance but.....cliffhanger.
Subsequent books 2 and 3 are available.

Eighteen year old Liam is an empath from Ireland. After searching for many years, he believes he’s finally met his Soulmate, The One, Laxshmi. An Indian-American from North Carolina.
She’s a typical high school good girl. She follows her mother’s edicts for the most part, but has her own dreams. The two are instantly dra

SOULMATED (a YA Fantasy by Shaila Patel) is pure, delicious fun. If you're in the market for a wildly charming, funny and HOT Irish book boyfriend (with empathic powers!), then this book will put a very broad smile on your face. Hero Liam is on the hunt for his empathic soulmate. So far, he's struck out in his search. Lucky (a nickname for Laxshmi) is an Indian-American teen who isn't aware of her latent empathic powers (and who has a traditional mom who wants her only dating Indian boys). When ...more

Can I just say CHEMISTRY?! I haven't read a book with such sizzling, agonizing (in the best way possible) chemistry in a very long time. Lucky and Liam's connection was such a treat to follow throughout SOULMATED and I am actually dying for book 2. I read SOULMATED in a solid afternoon because I could not put it down. I'm warning you, Liam will soon reach the top of your book boyfriend list even from the first moment you meet him! If you're looking for a sizzling paranormal romance with complex ...more

I'm a sucker for a good love story, especially a cross-cultural one, and this is a good love story times a million. I loved Lucky, the Indian-American teen girl facing an arranged marriage. I loved Liam, the handsome Irish empath finding his way. The book was heart-warming and humorous and very, very swoon-worthy. If you're looking for a sweet escape, this is it. I fell headlong into Soulmated, and can't wait for the sequel! ...more

Soulmated renews your faith in love. What a sweet story with two wonderfully rich characters. While Lucky falls in love, she struggles with her insecurities, her doubts, and her mother's overwhelming control. We experience her beautiful culture through her eyes and watch her balance her true Indian self with her westernized upbringing. Liam is sweet, heroic, and gorgeous (Hello, accent*waggles brows*) and he helps Lucky realize how great she is, that she fits in this world by his side. Even with ...more

Liam is an empath and a prince. He has just earned the responsibility of leading his royal house. Liam’s sense of duty to his family is strong, and though at times, his duty is in conflict with what he wants, he stands by his duty. Until he meets Lucky.

Lucky (Laxmi) has been given a choice for her future by her very traditional Indian mother. She can go to medical school or get married. Or she can get married and go to medical school. Either way, her mother will decide w

Two teens getting parental pressure to fulfill their parent-chosen destiny: it’s a classic storyline, but Shaila Patel puts a fresh twist on it. Liam, an Irish royal empath, is getting pressure to find the one and fulfill his destiny in a soulmated union. Laxshmi, a first-generation Indian American high school student, is getting pressure from her mother to finish school early and get into a top college ASAP so she’ll be on track to finish medical school while she’s still got her looks and can l ...more

Ms. Shaila Patel is definitely on my radar!

Soulmated grabs you from the very beginning and doesn't let go! Liam is a prince and an empath. His father wants him to solidify a position on the council. The best way to do that? Find the one person you are DESTINED to be with. The problem, it conflicts with what Liam wants and feels.

Lucky has the two options of graduating early and going to the Medical school of her mother's choice or an arranged marriage to a guy of her mother's choice. Neither opti

This book! It's one of those that when you finish, you close it, and release a long, lovely sigh. I thoroughly enjoyed Lucky's and Liam's story. It was exciting and mysterious and utterly swoon-worthy (and, admittedly, it takes a lot to get me 'swooning'). The author wrote these characters beautifully with complexities and flaws and made them so very relatable--I was rooting for them the entire time. The setting was well thought-out and the strikingly different cultures of the main characters we ...more

Soulmated by Shaila Patel is a colorful, romantic YA story with the combination I always love – real teenage life clashing with magical/paranormal life. Cross-cultural times two, the Irish boy with a magic lineage and the Indian American girl from a non-magical family; both struggling under their parents’ control but also threatened by something much bigger. Waiting for the next installment!

I was given an ARC of SOULMATED and enjoyed every minute of it.
If you're looking for a modern day Romeo and Juliet with a flare of magic, look no further. SOULMATED has all the excitement of first love while delving deep into the lives of two different characters and their cultures. An Irish boy and an Indian girl. What could be more different and yet so similar. The fire is hot on this book, with a climatic end that'll make you weep waiting for the next one!

This is a very incredible story. I have enjoyed and felt all the tingling that Lucky and Liam felt. I felt like I was a teenager again. This book brought back memories of being carefree, reckless and with no responsibilities. When life was easier, full of hope and dreams that are within reach.

This is a story of finding your soulmate which is what everyone wants. It is so full of hope that out of the 6 billion people in the world, there is that one person who is meant for you and you alone. One w

WOW! I loved it!!!
This is an exceptional story.
Two unique people from two very different cultures come together in as beautiful of a way as I've ever read. I love YA Paranormal Romance, especially when an author takes me on a journey I don't want to break away from. The pacing in this book is well done. The cast of characters are deeply drawn. The story, despite the paranormal aspect, is believeable. I couldn't stop myself from turning page after page, and honestly got looks as I snuck in some r

Read as an E-ARC, but I need the book in my hands so I can re-read the bits I want to find.

So I adored Lucky and Liam. I love cross cultural romances like this because everything is so new to each of the characters it adds a fabulous layer to the story. They also both struggle to protect the other from their families and for completely different reasons. Author Patel keeps the romantic tension so tight you feel it could break any second, and I loved it until the end. Then I was like NOOOOOOOOOOO
Ohhhh, how I loved this book! It was just an awesome YA paranormal romance. I happen to be a huge fan of Indian fiction, *and* I have always wanted to visit Ireland and adore all things Irish, so it was like the perfect blend of cultures for me! In my opinion, that’s one of the strongest things about the book - the fact that Ms. Patel begins the blending of two rather distinct and “old” cultures, and does it so well. Meanwhile, although Laxshmi is Indian American and Liam is Irish, the book is s ...more

I'm not even a contemporary romance reader, but this book had me so hooked that I read it in one sitting! Well done!

In Patel's debut Urban fantasy, 18-year-old Liam is one of a long line of Empaths who have an entire society hidden from the public eye. Not only is he the newly appointed head of his clan and one of the most powerful Empaths alive, but he is also fated to be "soulmated," - a rare phenomenon that promises him vague and unimaginable power. The only problem is that he has to find her

Can we talk about how great it is that YA literature is making a push for diverse books? I feel it so important to learn about other people’s culture, as well as seeing things from their world, through their eyes. And to have diverse books written by diverse people? Hello, world! We’re making changes! Can we also talk about how this book ripped out my heart at the cliffhanger at the end and is now holding it until Book 2 is out? Th

I live in India so the references were very homey since there aren't many YA books with

The way the author explained the mom was AMAZING! Every Indian mom here is pushy towards marriage and finding the right boy and ways to make you more eligible. It's changed now but there are moms who are still like that.

Own voices books are becoming more and more of a thing... Which makes me so freaking happy. This book is so engaging. I like the storyline immensely!

Lucky and Liam are so cute! I just adore the way Lucky is trying to balance her life of being a good Indian daughter to her mom while also trying to be a teenager and learning about the traditional Indian dancing. I hope more of the culture will be woven into the future books. Al
