As an angel investor, you need to perform due diligence, testing your investment target thoroughly and getting a second opinion from fellow investors to make successful, lucrative decisions. While momentum investors rely on connection and intuition, value investors stick to the numbers when deciding which start-up will win the funding round. Alternative investors invest in a cause they believe in, creating a positive impact.

This book is ideal if you are starting as an angel investor or already have a bit of experience. It's US focused with lot of terms that the author doesn't bother to explain with footnotea.

Super excellent book. I've been angel investing for 3 years, in a total of 15 companies so far. (See list on my blog). I'm happy to say that a lot of what's recommended in this book is stuff that I did correctly. BUT, there's plenty I didn't do, and this was an awesome read to help me get better at the activity I want to make a part of this phase of my life.

It was also useful for my wife to read a number of the passages, as help for her to help me as I go through the process of evaluating deals

“I like innovation. I like ideas. I like people and I like being part of winning teams. I don't gamble, I don't watch sports, I don't do any of those things. What I like to do is bet on people in the innovation business, so as soon as I had the capacity, that’s what I started doing as an individual—writing some small checks, and then some bigger checks.” 0 likes
