My lingering question I had from the previous books where Mark was a secondary character was why the Hubba Bubba gum? Suffice it to say, Ms. Drake answered the question and there is a whole lengthy reason behind it. What I have discovered from this author’s writing is that she doesn’t put a detail in a book just to take up space. There is a reason it’s inserted, and sometimes that reason may not be divulged immediately, but when it is it is a crucial part of the story

Secrets, lies and love….

Mark and Mia’s story was complicated, shrouded in secrecy from the start. I felt a bit lost at the beginning, like I walked into a story already started and I was joining at the third chapter. Happily, those feelings quickly faded as the characters slowly but surely opened up…

Mark and Mia were no stranger to hurt and their stories, weaved amongst missions and brothers in arms, unfolded in a way that had me crying as well as laughing… They felt right together even as life,

Oh my gosh, these Blackstone men never ever disappoint! My sweet, sweet Major Mark Lopez—you didn't fail me. I never thought I could love you this much, but holy cheeseballs, you sucked me in and made me fall even harder! I've always loved Mark's humor and ability to defuse such heavy situations with his light demeanor. But what I fell for completely when I got to know him even more was how truly soft and huge his heart is. You might've successfully tricked me in your carefree, happy-go-lucky fa ...more

Mark has been my favorite since book one and finally we got his story. This book covers it all. You'll laugh, cry and bite your finger nails off. I love the bond they all have. They really are one big happy family. If Mark wasn't one of your favorites before he will be after this book. Loved it!

When I heard Mark was getting his own book I squealed loudly. Mark has been my favorite since the beginning of the Broken Trilogy and I always wanted more of him. He's funny, sweet, loving and just overall charming. So I was very much curious to see what would happen in this book.

Of course we get more of that side of Mark everyone sees and loves, but we also see this tortured side of him. His past still haunts him everyday and it's actually heartbreaking.

When he meets Mia, he does everything t

JL Drake spinoff series from the Broken trilogy is off to a smashing success! HONOR, book #1 in the BLACKSTONE series is fast passed, action filled, steamy romance.

Mark Lopez, who was the funny sexy secondary character in Broken series is the lead here. He is hardened, loyal soldier with a dark past and darker demons. He meets the heroine, Mia Harper, a nurse, after a harrowing mission south of the border.

He hides his past, she hides a secret. His life is hard to deal with, she has a lot of lo

This book was sooooooo good and everything that I expected to be. I read Broken trilogy and fell in love with Mark. He is the kind of guy that loves unconditionally and will give everything to make the woman in his life happy. I think the thing I love most about him is that after all he went through, he found a way to be happy...he is the funny guy in the group, the one that is impossible to not be happy when he is around, but mostly he is a true friend. The kind of friend that will take a bulle ...more

A spin off of the Broken series

In my review of the final book in the Broken series, I stated that I would be so disappointed if Mark did not get his own story. This book made me super happy. I already loved Mark, and Mia was perfect for him. The start of this series had everything I loved from the author's other series, plenty of suspense, lots of emotion, and amazing chemistry. I can't wait to start book two!
The best books to read are the ones where you're so invested in the story. I was so obsessed with the broken trilogy, I knew I would love this. I devoured it, and I love all of the characters. Hot alpha male, strong female with amazing side characters. I can read about these characters all day. I need Keith's book, like yesterday

Putting it aside for a while. 48% in and I am cannot get into the story. Loved the Broken-trilogy, but am a bit bored with this one.

Edit February 8: I have decided to let this one go. I loved Mark in the Broken-trilogy, but I also like romance and it was missing here. It seemed Mark was constantly on missions, away for weeks, and it seemed there was no real connection with Mia.

Gosh I love Mark, who wouldn’t. I even love, Abigail more and more as I learn more about her past, with taking Mark in as one of her own along with Cole and his family. She just melts my heart. This is a really great spinoff/continuation to our Blackstone team and I love everyone of course, I just hate learning about Marks past, it’s so sad and heartbreaking. I don’t even know how, Mark would of survived if he had of never meet Abigail. If it wasn’t for them I don’t think he would of had the bet ...more

J.L. Drake is a totally new to me author and I am just kicking myself for not having read her earlier because it's romantic suspense with military men! MY FAVORITE!!! I'll admit I was a touch lost with some of the references to other characters and situations that had happened in other books with them but it was fairly easy to keep track of who was who and the various relationships.

The star of this book, for me was Mark. For his humor to his huge heart he had it all. It didn't hurt that he was a

Mark Lopez is a Blackstone soldier that has been critically injured on a dangerous mission, and needs surgery at the North Dakota hospital that has the security clearance to treat the covert team. And this is where he meets a beautiful nurse named Mia, who instantly gets under his skin. As he recovers from surgery, he realizes that there is more to her than just your average caring nurse. When he gets discharged with orders to rest, he goes off on another mission instead, but he can't get the nu ...more

Honor (Blackstone, #1) by J. L. Drake is a spinoff of the Broken Trilogy; that is where we first meet Mark Lopez. Honor is his story. We knew a little about him from the previous story. The most we know was he was Cole’s best friend. He is tall good looking, funny guy and a card shark. He has a never ending stomach and a good soldier. In Honor we learn so much more about who Mark Lopez really is. We also learn how he comes to think of Abigail as his mother and how Cole is more than a best friend ...more

This is the first book I have read by this author. And although it is a spin off series the character relationships is apparent as the story progresses.

I did enjoy reading Mark and Mia's story but I must admit I was hoping for a bit more Alpha hero action than there was, but maybe that's just me. After being injured in the line of duty Mark finds himself in hospital under the care of the gorgeous nurse Mia. She knows roughly who he is but she definitely knows what he does. Majoe Mark Lopez could charm anyone and does routinely. When he ends up in a North Dakota hospital after being shot during a mission, Mia Harper is one of his nurses. He proceeds to charm her too. Mia and Mark both have secrets and while the get to know each other well not all is revealed, at least by Mia. Mark's low life brother re-enters the picture, once again expecting Mark to bail him out of a mess as Mark has been doing for years. Things turn ugly when Mark puts his foot down and refuses. ...more

3.5* read.

This is a spin-off from this authors Broken trilogy series and these really need to be read first before this one, I didn't realize it was a spin-off till I'd read it so I didn't have a chance to read the others first and so I felt a bit lost in places which has affected my rating. Some of the references to other characters that had happened in the other books confused me although it was easy enough to keep track on who was in what relationship I just wished I'd knew to read the others

This is the second book I've read by Ms. Drake and I couldn't be more impressed. She has such a unique writing style, and develops her characters well. This book is such a contrast to the other book I read by her I can't wait to read more from her.

Honor by JL Drake is the first book in the Blackstone Series. This is Mark and Mias book.
Mark is with Blackstone and Cole for a really long time. They are brothers in everything that count. He seems the easygoing one. But her had a rough childhood and a evil older brother who makes his life difficult.
And there is Mia, a nurse at Marks hospital and they have this crazy insta- chemistry. But Mia has secrets of her own.

This is the first book in this series, and if the rest are like this one, we are in for an amazing storyline. Mark is a Special Forces operative, and when he is injured in the line of duty, Mia is the nurse who is assigned to look after him. I loved the humorous banter between these two, and as their relationship continues to grow and they become closer, they are just perfect for each other.
This is a well written story which flows seamlessly, and I was hooked and enthralled throughout. I highly
