I gave it four stars, only because I think the Kiowa tribe and their culture is worth reading about. We could learn a great deal from native tribes, especially the Kiowa if we would just listen. Unfortunately, the writing is very dry and seems to come from a very few, but well respected sources. On the other hand I'm not too sure of the veracity of some of the information. I grew up with many Kiowa and studied with one of the elders and never heard, for instance, of Kiowa wearing wolf skins to hunt buffalo as depicted in this book. Other things are correct, especially when it comes to the treaties the tribes were forced to sign, which were then broken by the United States government.
