Before top criminal law attorney Trenton Steele asks his intern Madrigal Berkeley to move in together, his phone rings. His mentor has been arrested for the murder of Madrigal’s grandfather, who everyone believed had committed suicide. Unable to turn down his friend’s plea, Trenton takes on his defense, even though it may tear Trenton and Madrigal apart.
Despite the turn of events, Madrigal continues her investigation into her parents’ long-ago homicides. When she discovers that Trenton has kept significant information from her, she bars him from her search—if not from her bed. As their passion gets hotter and their love grows deeper, her investigation jeopardizes the life of someone close to her. Someone who may pay the ultimate price of Madrigal’s relentless pursuit of the truth.
From USA Today bestselling author Magda Alexander comes the steamy sequel to Shattered Virtue.
Wow! What a cliff hanger, I didn't see that coming, now I absolutely positively can't wait for the next part of this gripping three part series that's just packed with lies, deceit, mysteries, murder, friendship and of course steaming, hot passion. There's a great mix of characters, the story line is great and oh, the editing is excellent (which you don't always see in e-books), I would highly recommend this series, you won't be disappointed. I was lucky enough to receive this copy free for an honest review.
This story was great!! It picks up right where the first one leaves off. Quite a bit happens in this story. Madrigal and Trenton continue to try and build their relationship and be together but obstacles keep popping up. Nothing has caused them to really pull away from each other but there are some twists in this story that will surprise you and make you wonder. Mitch has been arrested for Madrigal's grandfather's murder. They don't believe he did it but there are a lot of secrets that Mitch won't say. It's going to be interesting when they all come out and we get to see where the chips fall. This story sets the stage for a lot of things to come to a head in the next. I was hooked from the beginning of the story because I'm already attached to the characters from the first story and want to know what's happening next. There's a lot of intricacies in this story that are woven throughout and are not necessarily obvious at first. This story is written really well with awesome, complex characters. These characters draw you in and you don't want to put the story down and are not ready for it to be over. The sex is hot and explicit. It's not overly frequent or anything and it fits the story and the characters with their personalities and relationships. That's one of the things that I love about Magda's books...everything fits the characters. This does end in another cliff hanger. We (the reader) learn a pretty major secret right before the book ends. I can't wait for the next one to come out. I want it now!! Lol. I would definitely recommend buying this book. It's great! It is the second book in Madrigal and Trenton's story and I would say that you need to read the first one to know what's going on in this one, to pick up on the intricacies that are weaved throughout the story, and to get full enjoyment out of it. Even though it ends in a cliff hanger it is a good length for the story and I didn't feel cheated or anything at the end. I'm not the biggest fan of cliff hangers, I avoid quite a few of them to be honest. This is not an author that I will do that with, even with cliff hangers. You get a full story that is really well written and I'm hooked for the next one. Magda Alexander is a one-click author for me. Yes I hate the wait for the next one but I guess I can understand why the story stops there/is broken up into multiple parts. Like I said, I don't feel cheated with the cliff hangers. It's just an awesome story, so check it out. It's worth it.
Reviewed by Gemini Shattered Trust is the second book in The Shattered series by Magda Alexander and it picks up directly after the events of Shattered Virtue, so I highly recommend reading the first book before starting this one. Shattered Trust is definitely a must read. It is packed with mystery, suspense, and some steamy relations. The story is about Madrigal Berkeley, her younger sister Madison, and Trenton Steele as they embark on a journey to figure out who murdered Holden Gardiner, the girls’ grandfather. The girls’ surrogate uncle, Mitchell Brooks has been charged with the murder but no one believes that he did it. Trenton, who is a criminal attorney and Mitchell’s protege’, finds himself in some conflicting situations as he uncovers a wealth of family secrets that will impact his romantic relationship with Madrigal and change the trajectory of his career. Madrigal and Madison learn some painful truths about their family and are put in danger.
Compared to the Shattered Virtue, the suspense is intensified and I was compelled to keep reading. I was disappointed that the mystery does not get solved in this book but I can appreciate the roller coaster ride. Due to the nature of the book, I can’t reveal much without ruining anything. I will say that Magda Alexander does an amazing job of drawing you in and making you feel like a part of the investigation. The characters are all very unique and I have no clue what will happen next. I also like the fact that the story is told from multiple points of view so you can get in the main characters’ heads. I get the feeling that there is another plot twist coming so I can’t wait to read the next book.

Wow !! This is the second book in the Shattered Series and it picks up right were Shattered Virtue ends. You definetly need to read Shattered Virtue before you start Shattered Trust so you understand what is going on. The story is full of mystery, suspense, twists, budding romances, and conflict. Madrigal and Trenton continue to investigate what happened the night Madrigal's parents were killed. While searching for answers to her parents deaths Madrigal is hit with the devasting news that her uncle Mitch stands accused of murdering her grandfather Holden. No one actually believes Mitch killed Holden but he is hiding secrets that he is not willing to share. Trenton makes his own sacrifices to help Mitch and soon realizes he has his work cut out for him. So many revealations are made throughout the book, you really are guessing the whole time. Madrigal is trying to navigate her relationship with Trenton, investigate three murders, take care of the house and staff, care for her troubled sister Madison, finish her law degree, and try to figure out who she can and can't trust. The book ends with one hell of a cliffhanger but I loved how the story developed and can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review nor required to write a positive review.
The story of Madrigal Berkeley and Trenton Steele continued. The story started after her grandfather death with shocking revelation. Trenton’s mentor had been arrested for Madrigal’s grandfather’s murder, and he had no other choice but to take his defense even though it might ruin his relationship with Madrigal. Madrigal also continued her investigation of her parents’ murder. Her investigation led to some shocking discoveries.
This is a second book in the series (or trilogy?), and there sure is a continuation as the book ended in another cliffhanger, one that made me dreaded the third book. Legal suspense is not usually up in my shelf, but I like this series. Ms. Alexander way of storytelling is very captivating me. It was an emotional book, a bit too much for my taste, though it’s ok for once in a while. The main characters relationship was also a main focus here, and sometimes I had to remind myself of how young Madrigal was because she sounds so immature here and there.
All in all, I like the book and the series, and I definitely want to read the third book.
OOOHHH!!! I love how Shattered Virtue ended that I had to get my greedy hands on to Shattered Trust right away!
I love the dynamic Madrigal and Trenton have. I love how the story keeps us on our toes, always keeps us guessing. The plots, the twists, I may have my own suspect and hoped that it will be revealed in this book. As I have said, it keeps us on our toes or shall I say our fingers from flipping on the pages. Hoping... . I love the suspense, the thrill, the mystery, the lies, family drama, and not to mention their love. I love the legal jargons, maybe I have a thing for people who works with the law, but Trenton Steele. OH MY! He can "steele" my heart anytime! I love how strong the heroine is in this book.
I have loved everything Magda has written. and I am hoping that it won't take Magda to finish the last trilogy of Shattered.
In one word Yay for Magda Alexander. When I read the first book I was like what. I mean Madrigal and Madison are sweet and their grandfather talk about worst grandpa ever. The pain these little girls went through and dealing with well a psychotic grandfather was harsh. My heart went out to Madrigal and Trenton. Both have suffered terrible things in their life yet are bonded together in a way that makes them perfect for each other. Magda Alexander did a great job but now I anxiously wait for the next one for yes there is a cliffhanger. I cannot wait to see how Madrigal is going to deal with Trenton now and the new revelations towards Madison. Loved it.
Wow! The story just adds more twist and turns and keeps you still wondering who the murderer is and why they did it! Madrigal and Trenton are both wanting to form a relationship without losing their control in their independence. They think it will make them look weak in the others eyes. Madison has something unfortunate happen to her that adds more questions that needs answers. Trenton has a surprise from his past that he can't share. When the truth surfaces he's afraid he will lose someone close to him. I thought this was a 2 book series....there has to be more to answer all the cliffhangers!
Holy Cow! 4.5* I must admit that I didn't enjoy, book one, but the ending was good enough to make me grab number two; and boy am I glad that I did. When an author can flawlessly switch from one character POV to another without confusing the reader, I have much respect, and thoroughly enjoy my read. Kudos!
The new character additions, and the expansions on past/ current characters were perfect! I found myself speculating one minute, drooling the next, only to fall out of my reading chair by the time it was over.
This former cynic, is now an impatient fan... Where is the next one?!
Shattered Trust is the second book in a series. I won a copy in a Good reads Giveaway . I haven't read the first book so i was a little confused at first. The Family secrets continue to be uncovered and Madrigal and Trenton's romance continues to grow. But will long hidden secrets tear them apart? plenty of twists and turns, plus some steamy sex scenes. But it does leave a lot of unanswered questions which will hopefully be answered in the next book in the series.
I love the book it really keep you on your the edge of your set. I liked the ending but it left you hanging, like there could be another book, or you could use your own choice. I believe Trenton planted the bugs but I believe he chose Madrigal over Mitch. I believe because he finally had a family that loved him. Also he just found out his brother was alive and he wants to know what happens and he is involved with Madrigal and Madison.
This is my first book by Magda Alexander and I the second in this series and there were times during the book I felt a little lost,as there were things I was missing from the previous book. It was a lot of stuff going on. The action never stops and it happens almost everything, betrayal, lies, angst. It was a nice read
I was provided an ecopy by NetGalley for an honest review.
Second in the series of this trilogy. It all hinges around the death of Madigral's grandfather. Trenton and Mad's relationship heightens and so does the intrigue surrounding the murder oh Holden. Great story but leaves a lot of questions unanswered which I'm sure will become clear in the 3rd instalment. Looking forward to it coming to an end.
I enjoyed the first book in this series but honestly wasn't too enamoured with this one. I felt this storyline was dragged out., although if there is a third book I will undoubtedly read it because I'm curious to know what happens.
I loved this book! The characters are well thought out. The dialogue is perfect. I really enjoyed the story line. I would definitely recommend this book to others! I need more in the series! (I received this book free, for an honest review. Honestly, you won't be disappointed!)
This is a book I couldn't put down. Every twist and turn had me looking for more. There's just enough romance in there also to be a breather. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.
This book was a great read but left u hanging at the end!!! Leaves you in suspense about the fate of the characters and there doesnt appear to be a book three!!! Left me unsatisfied
This was a great book more keeps you reading and to find out it is an inside killing lots of twists and turns need to read to see if you can name the killer or killers
I just finished reading book two. The cliff hanger in this book killed me. I looked for book three on Amazon in the kindled book library and no other books appeared for this story to continue. I love these characters Trenton and Madrigal have a relationship that absolutely loved. But I’m disappointed if this is how their story ends. There are many mysteries left unsolved Madrigal’s parents deaths and her grandfathers murder. I also want to know what Mitch and Hunter are hiding.
I would really appreciate someone telling me where I can find part three of this series. I just found the series this June 2018. I love this authors writing and I can’t believe her book would end this big of a cliffhanger. I read her Storm series books those were fantastic. I hope I get to read the ending of Trenton and Madrigal’s story.
I wasn't as into this book as the first one. Madrigal seemed to go into very quick mood swings. She tries to assert her independence, but I feel she handles it very immaturely. That just seemed a bit much. There is a cliffhanger ending and I am not sure if or when the third installment is coming out. I would appreciate some closure because right now it seems like there are a lot of lies and questions still out there.
I didn't love this series to begin with, but I was fully invested in reading through to the resolution. Sadly, there is none. This book drops off in what seems like the middle. Nothing is resolved. We still don't know details of the motive behind any of the murders, nor do we know the killer(s). We don't know what happens with Trenton and Madrigal. We won't know who planted the bugs or when/why. We don't know Mitch's fate, or even more details about Hunter. It's frustrating and has been 8 years since publication, so it appears a third in the series is unlikely. Disappointing to say the least.
The plot was very engaging and I was really into this book. I understood why the ending of the forerunner of this book left the reader hanging. It picked right up in this one. It was a great mystery and I couldn’t put it down. Then wham! I hated the way it ended. It left the reader to come to her own conclusions although one could figure the main one out. I would have loved more details. After all that time reading the two books! I still give it five stars but will not be reading any other books from this author.
I really dislike when I purchase books or book series and they do not inform you that they will leave you hanging. The story is great but I would not have read at this time of o knew it was a cliffhanger ending.
I am aggravated due to the fact that the way this book ended not only keeps me wondering what's next but then I'm excited about the next book ready to see how its all going to end.
This is the second book in the Series and I cannot wait for the next. Magdalene Alexander keeps you on the edge of your seat. The developing relationship between Madrigal and Trenton is touching, and you cannot wait to see what happens next.
