Songbird

Callie Franklin doesn’t do one night stands. Ever. She’s far too responsible and focused on her career to ever let herself give in to temptation. But, on the eve of her best friend’s wedding, she meets that temptation . . . And his name is Devin McAllister. Devin, on the other hand, has no problem with meaningless hookups. The very last thing he needs—or wants—is a relationship. Relationships come with strings. Relationships come with heartbreak. A late-night encounter in the hotel’s piano bar finds the two unable to resist each other. With her angelic voice and bright blue eyes, Devin’s sure he’s never met anyone as beautiful as his Songbird. Six weeks later, when two pink lines confirm Callie’s worst fears, she and Devin have to face the consequences of their wild weekend. And they have to deal with each other—whether they like it or not. With a love story that’s far from traditional, Callie and Devin begin to wonder if their one-night stand could turn into something neither of them anticipated. A happily ever after.

4 "Operation Seduce Baby Daddy" stars

Callie Franklin is a maid of honor in her best friend's wedding. The night before the big event, she meets a handsome stranger and even though she's against one night stands, and after a couple of drinks, she ends up in the bed with him. The following day Callie finds out that the handsome stranger is the groomsman, Devin McAllister.

Devin is a much wanted bachelor and doesn't do commited relationships. He is charmed by Callie, but he leaves her on the bed after their night together, nonetheless. Several weeks later, he meets Callie again and he wants a repeat, but she has some news for him that will change his world.

What do I know about raising a kid? I don't even like kids. They're loud and messy and annoying. I'm selfish and arrogant, and there's no doubt I'll completely screw it up. What do I know about being a father?

Callie was really shocked when she found out that she's expecting a child. With a rise in her career, this would be the last thing she would want at the moment. Add the clear knowledge of who is the father and the fact that her own mom wasn't the epitome of a mother and Callie has to face the harsh reality of being a single mother.

How is he going to react when he finds out that he's expecting a baby with a girl he had just one night stand? How is Callie going to deal with this? And what's going to happen when the candidate mayor not only hits on her, but also stalks her?

Sure, this baby was unexpected and unplanned, and yes, I'd completely freaked out at first, but I never considered not keeping it. This is my baby, even if I end up raising it alone.

I really enjoyed this one. The writing had captured my interest and anything that involves pregnancy and babies has me intrigued. It was really interesting to watch their transition from strangers, to going through the pregnancy stages with those characters. And not only the hero or the heroine, but also those who surrounded them. His parents & her father were awesome, as well as her besties and his brother.

I have to admit that I wasn't impressed with a few facts, like the fact that I expected that he would be harder to accept the whole fatherhood. I liked watching him grovelling, but I can't help but think that his initial reaction was to be expected. Also, the whole drama with the mayor, I expected more drama there and didn't got the action I was expecting. The similarities with Twilight were quite evident, so if you don't mind reading twilight fanfiction and you are intrigued with this plot, this will definitely work for you.

He doesn't make me nervous. It's my reactions to him that make me nervous. My body. My mind. My heart. They're all at risk whenever he's around.

Overall, the characters were quite pleasant, this book was sweet, sexy and funny. I loved the progress between the couple, their dialogues, their bonding, the side characters and I would definitely recommend this to my friends.

I am a fairly stoic person. I rarely cry, and even more so, I rarely cry when reading love stories.
Not this time.
I loved Songbird by Sydney Logan. A simple story told with her gentle touch about two people learning to trust and love—it was an enjoyable read. I adored Callie’s independent streak, and her often humorous inner dialogue, and Devin’s sweet way of dealing with her insecurities she tried to hide. They both had issues from their past they had to overcome, and the catalyst that caused the story, is what brought them the resolutions they both needed. She learned to let go, and he grew up and became the man he was supposed to be.
But it was the last chapter that got me. The way Sydney wrote it—linking the past with the present, and the sad, sweet memories he carried mixed with the joy of the present…I cried.
I cried hard.
Well done, my friend. Well done.
I highly recommend this sweet story written by this very talented author.

Sydney Logan is officially my favorite author. As usual when I start reading her books, I refuse to put it down until finished. Songbird touched all of my emotions and kept me on the edge of my seat. It has been 4 days since I finished and I still have that feeling in my stomach. That's what I call reading! Keeps me coming back for more!

Contemporary Romance

Finished 9/3

Callie Franklin wants nothing more than to work her way up the newsroom ladder so she can report on something interesting and make a name for herself. So focused on her career, she doesn’t have time for a boyfriend, and she doesn’t do one night stands. That is, until she meets someone in a bar the night before her best friend’s wedding.

Devin McAllister prefers casual relationships so he’s not tempted to give over his heart—something that’s not available. But since his night with Callie, he can’t get her off his mind. When he runs into her at a charity function, he hopes to make the most out of the chance encounter. Callie telling him she’s pregnant with his child is not at all what he expects.

Neither Devin nor Callie are ready for a baby, but they’ll have to take what life’s thrown at them. Now they’ll just need to figure out if they also have a place in each other’s hearts.

Songbird is a sweet contemporary romance with a touch of drama. The heartfelt story will leave you with a feel-good smile on your face. Neither of the main characters is ready for a relationship when they meet, but their attraction is undeniable. When circumstances push them back together, they have to do their best to adapt while their feelings continue to grow. In the end, they make a lasting relationship out of an unusual situation.

I truly enjoyed every minute of this book. Watching Devin and Callie grow—separately and together—was a pleasure. Callie didn’t have a very good role model in her mother, which pushed Callie to be more independent than she needed to be. She took on her mother’s mistakes as her own and tried to prove herself better. It wasn’t until Devin came into her life and wanted to make it easier on her that Callie realized she didn’t have to be the perfect independent woman her mother wanted her to be. Devin’s desire to take care of Callie and the baby gave Callie the chance to let go of the reins a little.

While Devin’s family was near-perfect, his heart had been shattered at a young age and he was unwilling to risk it again. He’d lived his life with little attachment, but his attraction to Callie had him all tied up in knots. Then a baby was added to the mix, and Devin didn’t know how to handle himself. With the help of his family, he was able to let go of his fears and open his heart once again, letting in his love for not only his baby, but Callie too.

The secondary characters were an enjoyable addition. The relationship between Callie and her two best friends was natural and fun to watch. I loved seeing them share ice cream over boy-talk or arguing over what Callie should do.

This book was truly engaging and kept me reading page after page. Mostly lighthearted, there was just enough drama to make things interesting. I would definitely recommend it and look forward to reading more by Ms. Logan.

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

From the first line of the first page I was drawn in completely to Callie and Devin's world and I wanted to stay. Songbird is definitely a character driven book; and Callie and Devin are so well written, so well defined they seemed real to me. Sydney really has a way of doing this in her writing and I love that.

The story was appropriately filled with humor, romantic, mysterious and of course sad. The flashbacks about Shyann broke my heart a little I must say. I laughed, I cried, I swooned (wishing Devin was mine and called ME Songbird) and I got angry all in the span of a few chapters. I could not wait to see if Callie and Devin got their well deserved happily ever after; but once I was done and the last line was read, I must say I was more than a little sad. I would read this book again and recommend it to everyone! It's a must read.

When I pick up a book from Sydney Logan I know I can expect a sweet romance. I know that I will be transported to the characters' world and happily ensconced in the story. I look forward to this experience and I have never been disappointed. Songbird is a fantastic book that gave me all kinds of different "feels" and I loved every minute of it. Callie feels like my best friend and Devin is the guy we love to hate and then need to love. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a great romance that you can't put down!

Sydney writes the sweetest stories. This one is no different. Callie and Devin meet under unconventional conditions, but end up in an extremely conventional relationship. :) They both are scarred from past issues, but love opens them up to trust and really let go of the hurt. It's a beautiful love story, with funny and crazy side characters. Oh, and one really creepy character.

Devin is swoon-worthy for sure, and definitely stole my heart right along with Callie's. His love and protectiveness for Callie will make you sigh in happiness!!

Jump in and meet Songbird, you won't be sorry.

Sydney Logan did it again- another fantastic story! I loved Songbird, it's not your traditional romance story, in fact there is nothing traditional about Callie and Devin at all. You can't help love these characters. I had so many emotions reading about Callie and Devin - anger, sadness, shock, and love! Yep this book has it all, who knew a one night stand could turn into a blessing that would heal a family's years of heartache and sadness! I was pleasantly surprised to find where the story was going and loved the ending. Looking for a less traditional romance this is a must read! Thank you to the author Sydney Logan for allowing me to review.

Happy Release Day!!!

There's a giveaway at my blog today, too:

http://www.firstpagetothelast.com

One trope that I truly love to read is the "surprise baby" one. Songbird is a wonderful take on that theme. Callie doesn't do one night stands, but Devin and her attraction to him is a force to be reckoned with. Devin, for his part, doesn't do commitment. And children? Nope, not in his future. But after he meets Callie he is nearly knocked down by the heat between them. But...only for a weekend. Callie is good with that. Yes, indeed, only for a weekend!

Then comes that surprise complication. Let the fun begin!

Callie is a journalist and she's busy. And her mother was a bit of a flake. So how could Callie do a good job as a mom?

Then there's Devin. He had a tragic loss in his life and there is just no way he's going to love anyone, no woman and certainly no child.

Both of these characters need to grow, and grow they do. With a lot of help from several supporting characters who were a joy to read.

I loved this. And I hope you do, too.

Thank you, Sydney Logan, for the opportunity to read (and edit) this book!

Songbird is a very touching and sweet romance that begins with a one-night stand that soon becomes much more. Neither Callie or Devin is prepared for the changes that will soon be taking place in their lives. This story unfolds at a comfortable and enjoyable pace. The main characters are both very likable and, along with an outstanding secondary cast, present readers with all the elements of a strong and entertaining contemporary romance that touches all the “feels” – a mixture of sexy, humor, and heart and soul.

A new-to-me-author with a delightful book equals a very nice afternoon of reading for me.

5 Plus, 5 Plus, 5 Plus, ok you get it....I could give this 100 Stars and it would never be enough for me:)

Wow, wow, wow, I devoured this gem all day today and I am blown away completely!!!!! This is the first book I have read from this author and yep, you guessed, it won't be my last. Once I am done with my review, I will be looking up all of her work to date:)

This story about Devin and Callie was just completely and utterly beautiful, awesome, sweet, sexy, emotional on a lot of levels and just simply PERFECT for me in every way:) I adored Devin, I mean loved, swooned, you name it, this guy was just perfection at it's finest! Yes, at the start there was a time that I wanted to slap him but thank goodness it was short lived, lol!!!! Callie was beautiful as well and I loved her. Her back story was crushing and can I tell you at 95% when her main "issue" was semi-resolved....tears, I mean crocodile tears and I don't mean it in a bad way either. That part just brought the whole story to it's brim and I just couldn't hold back the unshed tears that had been trapped throughout the story:) It was not only a heart-warming, heart-rendering moment but it was just a crucial, poignant moment in this story especially for Callie and it just brought everything full circle and gosh did I ever love that damn moment, well, pretty much every moment since the start but that moment in particular just hit me in the heart....

This story was fairly low on drama and angst and yet it had just enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, at least I was because this author could have taken this story in many directions but she didn't, thank goodness, and so with all the directions I had conjured up in my head, lol, I was literally holding my breath in some moments but oh gosh, was it worth it!!!!! The storyline was perfect, the characters were brilliantly written and the writing itself was flawless in which made this story flow seamlessly from start to finish, just perfect!

I am hoping, wink, wink, for a novella just to catch up with everyone!!!! Devin's parents and Callie's dad, omg, I loved these people hard, they made this story equally enjoyable. The whole cast of friends and family truly played a major role in this story and they couldn't have played out their parts any more perfect. Seriously, they were equally as important as Devin and Callie in making this story a huge success!!!!!!

Congrats Sydney Logan on a literary masterpiece that I LOVED, ADORED and yes, I am literally so giddy with excitement to share my thoughts with everyone about this story!!!!! I am now an official fan and when I am done with my review, I will be checking out your other work to date, I am hooked!!!!

3.5 stars! You know I thought I was going to DNF this because it has some triggers that I normally don't like but I'm glad I finished it . if it hadn't had those two incidents I would of rated this higher.Devin and Callie are great! Callie is a very strong independent woman who has some issues with letting others take care of her. Devin is a sweet loving man who makes a few mistakes but learns from them. I love how things played out for them. At times I was mad then laughing and cryed a little. Devin was so good to her . Omg Owen was wonderful I loved him.lol he is going to be the best uncle!! I loved the end . Devin is going to be a great daddy! I have to admit I wantes steam haha. it's a pretty clean romance.

safety:hmm this is a tricky one because it's sort of not safe for some of my gr friends.
So after their ONS well actual they had sex twice that weekend on different days.lol they dont see each other again for a 6weeks. They both felt something but that was it they both dont want more. this is a first for h she never does ONS. she does question why he wasnt there in the morning but she tells herself I guess this is how it's done. So we get a scene where H wakes up in OW bed. he had a function and she was his date. they both went back to her hotel room im guessing with intentions to have sex(shes some he hooks up with sometimes)but he isn't feeling he falls asleep on her. she was getting drinks or something like that. nothing happens! he does say she is gorgeous . yeah I don't like it. but they weren't together and she wasn pinning for him. second time they get in a fight h and H and he leaves go to a bar ans gets drunk. of course the same woman sees him there and tells him lets go her room. he says no! he is really drunk tells her im going to call my brother to get me. she tells him I'll take you home . long story short she takes him home even though he doesn't want her too but he is so tired so drunk he doesn't argue. but in the limo she does lace her fingers with his(i hated it). nothing happens. she trys to ask him she can spend the night he says no ! I know it's a dumb thing to do! he says she is no callie and will never be! he loves her so much I really couldnt hold a grudge I forgave him.lol that's it no other drama. oh and he isnt the playboy everyone thinks he is.he says yes he has been photograph with lots of woman but alot of those times he went home alone:) never had a relationship never loved ! h has had relationship but nothing too serious. I must say his reaction to her telling him she was pregnant wasnt the best but I understood it completely! He more than makes up and grovels for it!

This is a beautifully written love story that really tugged at my heart strings.

Devin is a commitment-phobic player with a successful law practice. Since his twin sister died when they were fifteen he has struggled to let anyone in, and he certainly hasn't given anyone a piece of his heart. A chance encounter with Callie changes all that.

Callie is Devins opposite in many ways. She doesn't indulge in one-night stands but her and Devin are inexplicably drawn to one another and they quickly cave to their mutual attraction.

At her friends wedding the next day, she realizes he is the errant groomsman that has been missing, and they end up spending the night of the wedding together as well.

When she falls pregnant, she is gobsmacked but determined to do the right thing by her baby. Devin receives the shock of his life when she first tells him and he doesn't react well. Once he's had time to recover, he tries to make it up to her, but she has shut him out. The rest of the book is the story of how they slowly let each other in and discover a love that was always meant to be.

While their love may be unconventional, it is sweet and romantic and I loved reading every moment of it.

I kept waiting for some big drama, or some major curveballs - certainly with Dominic and Nina, there were options to really milk the suspense - but the author didn't do that, and I loved her for it. Instead, this is a simple, sweet tale of two people opening up their hearts and falling in love. It's also a story about family and friendships, and overcoming long instilled fears and pre-conceived notions.

Callie's mom has been bitter since she got pregnant with her at 17. Some of her warped ideals have twisted Callies perception of men, marriage, and the world in general. However, with the help of Devin and her friends, she is able to make her own decisions, and learns to trust her own instincts. I loved her dad. What a sweet man, and the opening scene where we meet him was very funny.

It's hard as a reader not to fall in love with Devin. He starts out being a total ass but once he lets his barriers down, and learns to keep his controlling ways on a leash, he was perfect leading man material. His tender love and care of Callie was swoonworthy.

I was gripped from the very first page. I started reading it late at night only intending to read a few chapters but I stayed up until 3am and finished it in one go. I was so engrossed I just couldn't put it down.

I love Sydney's writing style and the words flowed beautifully on the page. As this is a character driven story, the character development was superb. She really got under both Devin and Callies skin and I properly understood what made them tick. I felt a strong emotional connection to them and their story. I honestly can't fault this book at all. What an amazing read. I think I'll be adding Syndey Logan to my list of favorite authors, and I look forward to checking out more of her work.

Thanks to the author and Inkslinger PR for providing an ARC of this book for review in exchange for my honest opinion. This review will appear on my blog shortly. http://myyanabookobsession.com

DEBBIE'S REVEIW

5 Beautifully Written Stars!

Can one night of passion change your life? That is what this book is about and let me say I loved this book. It was beautifully written and such a fantastic plot I was glued to my kindle.

The chemistry between the two main characters was fantastic and the secondary characters added a great layer to make this one fabulous read. There was angst but nothing over the top. The story was very realistic and honestly so well written I have nothing to complain about.

Devin and Callie, the two main characters didn’t want a relationship but after one night of passion and two pink lines things change. I loved how this book had a slow build and you got to see them both push past the pain of their past and grow not only alone but also grow together. I love a woman that can stand on her own and knows exactly how to put the guy in his place but also knows when to let him take the lead. Callie without a doubt was that woman. Devin came off as a real jerk at first but loved his sweet, romantic and dominating side that we eventually got to meet.

This book has a combination of everything that makes a fantastic read. You have romance, humor, angst and a little bit of drama.

I loved all the relationships in this book and everything just worked perfectly. This is a book that makes you feel good reading. A majority of this book I had a huge smile on my face. There were some parts that were very emotional and I found myself feeling all the emotions the characters were feeling. The author had a fantastic way of writing that had me feeling like I was there experiencing everything with them. This is the first book I have read by this author but certainly will not be the last. I am hoping that she writes another book about some of the other characters because I truly enjoyed this one.

I read an excerpt of this book the author submitted to my blog and it intrigued me. This isn't the first book I've read by this author and I doubt it will be the last. While her books tend to be on the sweeter side of things, it's always a good story and I appreciate that.

Songbird centers around Callie and Devin. They meet at a wedding and end up spending the night together. At the end of the weekend they go their separate ways, however, fate has other plans.

Both of the main characters are very likable and it's easy to relate to them. There were a couple exceptions when it came to Callie's refusal to forgive Devin for how he reacted to the bombshell she dropped on him, but it wasn't hard to excuse given the circumstances.

There is a white rose on the cover of the book and that holds a special significance in the story. Once the entire backstory was revealed I had an 'aww' moment.

While the sex scenes aren't all behind closed doors, the aren't overly detailed either. The story has a nice flow to it. There wasn't any point and time when things felt rushed or bogged down.

The book had a few minor editing issues, but nothing that took me out of the story.

I would recommend this to those who like sweet romances.

I just really don't believe that Sydney Logan can write a bad book! Sheesh! This woman is on FIRE!

Songbird is the newest novel out by Sydney Logan and it's just as wonderful as the rest of Sydney's work.

Callie is a reserved, up-and-coming journalist. Devin is the non-committal king. On the eve of her best friends' wedding, Callie allows herself to be swept away by Devin. Expecting a one night stand, Callie is thrown off guard when Devin turns out to be the cousin of the groom. Their one-night stand was hotter than both of them ever anticipated and quickly develops into another night spent together.

The repercussions of their weekend frolicking rock them both to the core. What follows is intense, beautiful, tragic and magical.

This ain't yo mama's romance novel! Sydney Logan is a master at crafting characters that are believable and go against the typical "wilting flower" stereotype. Callie doesn't let Devin bulldoze her in any aspect of her life. On the flip side, Devin learns when to push and when to pull and eventually the two find a flow that really works for them. The character decisions are honest - at no point did I do the DING DING DING PLOT POINT that I tend to find in romance.

I truly love this novel. Beautiful cover, beautiful characters, beautiful job Sydney Logan.

The first half of the book was a lot stronger than the second half. I was sure this was going to be a 5 star book for quite a while. Then I started to have a few issues here and there that just didn't flow well for me with the story. The second half was just weaker. I also had a hard time with the conflict around 77%. I was like really, that's what was chosen for the conflict... *eyeroll*
Songbird is certainly a butterflies and rainbows type love story. They had some minor conflicts and trials but their relationship was pretty perfect for a two night stand that resulted in a pregnancy. You kind of have to take the believability with a grain of salt and I do wonder if a single mom or someone who accidentally got pregnant would be able to enjoy this story given what they likely went through in real life with their baby's father. For me, I looked at it like, "aww how sweet that would be for a guy to really be like that."
This book is told in dual POV, alternating between our two main characters, Callie and Devin.
I really liked both of the main characters but I had a hard time believing their ages at time and didn't think their characters were solid and consistent at all times. It didn't detract from the story though as I still really enjoyed it.
There is a whole lot of insta going on in this book. Insta love, insta relationship, insta family, insta living together, etc. so if insta isn't your thing you might struggle with this book.
Audible: I added the whispersync Audible narration to this Kindle book. The narrator did a pretty good job but I wasn't really fond of her male voices. There was a distinguishable difference between Callie and Devin so it wasn't a big deal as I could still tell who was speaking.
