This book is a beautiful read, presenting such ideas to the child-protagonist as natural diversity and, perhaps most of all, appreciation and sensitivity to the natural world. Although a book ostensibly for children, the ideas and images have stayed in my mind.

Dana Petrović grew up in Croatia but left at the age of 19. She lived for 25 years abroad - Italy, Germany, Belgium - spending most of her time in Germany where she completed her PhD studies.
