While I have a collection of junior fiction that I share with students, I rarely buy non-fiction titles. Transdisciplinary inquiries mean that non-fiction is always on the go in my classroom, but I'm perfectly content for my school to provide. Also non-fiction texts date in ways that picture books and stories don't and my preference is for books that endure year after year.

This non fiction book aimed at children, but just as well received on the shelves of an adult, showcases thirty of the best loved cities from around the world by pouring the personality of a city on a double spread page using beautiful illustrations, a few facts about the given city as well as a variety of activities and attractions within the city.

This trivia packed geography book takes upper elementary reader on a whirlwind trip around the globe highlighting some of the world's most famous cities. Each two-page spread on a location contains a plethora of interesting locations that would be on any tourist's list also including some off-beat ones. The reader will learn some fast facts about the city, the country in which it's located, the language primarily spoken there, the population and an extra bonus; a challenge to locate an object th

Such a fun book! I love the colorful illustrations and collages over the maps of the cities. Seeing ABBA in Stockholm made me smile. This may be a children's book, but children at heart who have a fascination for maps will love it too.

Take a tour of some of the world's favorite cities to visit, and learn about fun things to do in each one.
This is technically an atlas, although it focuses on letting kids know fun things to do in each of the 30 cities highlighted. The map is loosely drawn of the city, and the focus is more on the sites. There's a short paragraph describing the city, three facts, and also a hidden picture challenge in the text box for each spread. Definitely a great resource if you happen to be visiting one of t ...more

I enjoyed the book, but I guess I was a bit disappointed when I haven't seen some of the famous sights mentioned in it. (I do realize that it's impossible to mention all the wonderful sights you can see, but for example, I was somewhat sad when I didn't see Christ the Savior in Lisbon - since it's similar to the one in Brazil but less known... or the fact that those glorious pastries are called pasteis (sounds like "pashteish")
Anyway, the book is great and my youngest loved searching for 5 litt ...more

Mostly European cities, although features some from other places too.
Pictures of the main sites pop out approximately in the right area. I had to look a bit to get my bearings on cities that I am more familiar with.
This book would be great to reference before traveling with kids, so they can get excited about seeing, doing and eating certain things.
Fun coffee table book for kids...so juice box table book?

Another amazing book from Wide Eyed Editions! This time author Georgia Cherry and illustrator Martin Haake take young readers to thirty cities around the globe. Each city gets a two-page colorful spread with a rough outline of the city with rivers and coastlines traced and various landmarks on the map. There's a sidebar on each page that teaches children the country where the city is located, the (primary) language spoken there, and the population of the city. The colorful illustrations feel cla

City Atlas is a beautifully illustrated book, printed on high quality, durable paper, and securely bound. On each two-page spread are illustrations of significant sites of thirty featured cities. This is a book that an older elementary school-aged child can peruse by themselves over and over, or a book that an adult and child can engage with together. I rate this book a 4.5 because I was expecting a book that contained actual city maps, and the illustrations of the city maps form only a backgrou

Beautifully illustrated, I wish there were more examples of African, Middle Eastern, other region cities. It's very Eurocentric. Which means some beautiful cities, but not a lot of variety.
